Title: Building Amageza Bike out of CRF 450 R??

Hi Guys.
I need some help! Going to race Amageza next year and have a CRF 450R. Will this bike be able to do it if I play with the sprockets and fuel tanks and put the tower. Will the bikes have to be road legal?
Or should I just close my eyes and build something like a XR650R rally spec.

Nothing wromg with the CFR450R, it will do the job, it really depends on how tough your ass is, at 800km days weather you are on a 650 or a 450 you are gonna have a sore bum or wobbly legs.. well at least I am.

I am currently building a XR650R for a client for the amageza. Designing a kit to fit the honda. If they can do the dakar on a 450 it will be perfect for the amageza.
Currently building a BMW450X in kit form for myself. Ally tank and full fairing with nav tower.
Prefer the light weight 450`s
I am re designing my roadbooks which was used in this years amageza to streamline them and add some features.
Will follow up with some pics as things get along. 
So which ever way you decide to go and need some help, give me a shout.

I would have said the X is better suited for a rally having wider gearing, lights etc. but it seems the new thinking is to take a MX 450 as base (more power - lighter ?) and then modify it as a Rally bike. Yamaha have done this in the Dakar and KTM in the Finke rally in Australia. So if you have enough cash it can be done on the R.

Then I shoulda done my shims 7 times by now. Took the bike to Yamaha and the workshop manager looked surprised that I wanted it checked out at such low kilo's (+-7000km.)

 My 5cents worth about shiming use it don't use it,old style bikes used to have adjustable tappets "Nut & Bolt" they would wear and get noizy when that happened we adjusted them, the modern bikes have shims they wear tight in other words the valve seat and valve face wear away making the shim touch the cam and here is the important part it makes the bike hard to start when Cold because the compression is down ie leaking valves.So if your bike,any make starts easy enough from cold it aint broke don't fix it.

You can check your valves every 4-6,000km on a WR ou boet. Mine never moved after the 4,500km but I had green slime in the biofuel by the time the bike got back via ship.  :eek7: But thats different story different issue.

On virtually all MX bikes this is the book recommendation ... due to the fact that they are meant to be RACED  :ricky:  and as such require this regular between race attention and to cover the manufacturer.

We do though need the answer to whether the bikes must be road legal and licensed  :eek7: Would obviously make a difference to those using  MX derivatives and would need electrics generated...

Short answer is yes - licensed and road worthy - says so in the rules. I would assume that includes a full-size number plate as well!

BUT do we need indicators and a hooter on a roadworthy bike? And what about knobblies?

We will be using public roads from time to time so it makes sense.

what they'll actually be looking for in scrutineering, though, i don't know.

Last year at scrutineering they did check the bike was basically road legal, but they werent too anal. 

If I remember correctly they wanted to see your licence disc as well.

So you definitely need the basics - enough to ride on on normal roads.

Im also playing with the idea of playing around with a honda 450, still stuck on X or R tho
