I was asked by someone in China this morning, to send a fabric sample....then he asked why not take a pic of the fabric....so I was mucking about with my cell ph cam on "Close-up" mode but it wasn't showing enough detail. Then I got an idea.....I have a really old school microscope! I use it for fabric analysis....so I thought to try something...afterall, nothing nothing gained. Put the fabric under the m/scope with the light on....and took this pic wiff cell ph cam with the lend right above the eye-piece. Viola! Success! China-man can now see edzachary what the fabric construction is.

First pic is a Ghost Cricket - a common desert resident
Second is a Dung Beetle about to take flight - Note the little dimples on its thorax, this is really uncommon.
Third is a Barking Gecko - These are the delightful little dudes behind the iconic "tjik tjik tjik tjik tjik" you hear resounding through the Kalahari at night.
Fourth is a dangerous scorpion species (Parabuthus raudus) which you're very likely to bump into in the Kalahari dunes.
All photographs were taken at Witsand Kalahari Nature Reserve, Northern Cape.

Some seriously talented people here. My attempt a long time ago on the beach with a Canon Powershot on auto

You don't need fancy equipment. Could get all in for R3k if you don't have a camera. Buy an old 35mm film macro lens or buy a lens inverter tube - it will get you far and is cheap to get.

Was driving through the Karoo National Park spotting game when this oke jumped onto the windscreen - I nearly wiped him with the wipers.... but suddenly realised we were there to enjoy nature... and although small and seemingly insignificant - he was as much part of the nature we'd come to see.......... stopped the car and did the macro pic from inside through windscreen.
I thought it was unique... :thumleft:
-
Wow, some really nice pics!

Thx Goose, I have a Canon 50D with 100mm Macro that I used to take the macros and close-ups. Nowadays I use a Canon 600D with a 90mm Tamron. Both very good lenses for close-ups. The secret is in the flash. I use the MT-24EX twin light flash which just gives you that more light that you need.

Shot with Tamron 90mm macro and Metz ring flash
Would LOVE to get a MP-E 65mm!
