Title: MUD,WATER,SAND,BUSH
Post by: Andy660 on December 30, 2007, 10:01:01 pm
We met at the Total garage as arranged.9 Bikes pitched.

Herminator(Dakar)
 The_Wes (Dakar)
Mountain Boy (GS650)
Mark Hardy (KTM950)
Wayneh (KTM950)
Gavin (KTM640Adv)
Powerflow Justin (Dakar)
Masehare(BMW 1150)
XT660R (+1)

It was nice and cool, with a heavy mist at the start, but by the time we hit the gravel, the cool mist had  vanished.
On to  the( Noob Ride Trail) , the water/mud pit took another rider down.Herminator.Waking up an old knee injury, but otherwise ,  non the worse for wear.
His Dakar clutch lever broke clean off at joint.Gavin made a make shift loop out of cable ties so he could pull away.
Unfortunately ,this ment the end of the ride for Lorance(Herminator) And he made his way back to the old N7 and went home.

On the railway tracks to Darling(2nd leg) we had great fun, hitting that big puddle at speed, swollows your bike. And the bumps ,Pot holes and riverbeds lead to some exciting riding.
Mark suggested we stop in Darling for coffee, which turned into breakfast.
Unfortunately,Wayne H and Masehare had time constraints and left after breakfast.

We then went onto the 32km corrogated, sand filled road to Oupos. This leads you to the R45.
Aboute 1km of tar South a RH turn through a farm and onto a very bad jeep track(Kanonskop)
Its about 10 to 15 k`s of ruts, grass, bush, mole holes guinifowl and even a Jackal.
Near the end of this leg Justin went down,no apparent injuries, except  for a broken indicator, and front mudgaurd.
The temp. by this time really was soaring. We had a short strech of tar ,then about 5 k`s gravell road to Abbotdale,Kalbaskraal, gravel back to the (302),Occudale rd,to Kontemans Kloof,Plattekloof and Ended at The Panarama Clinik.
Adventures better half had a bad accident in the Cederberg and was airlifted here. All the WD hope she has a speedy recovery.
We linned up in the car park, made a bit of noise and Justin did a wheelie(Drive-Bye) before we split up and went our seperate ways.
Mark,Wes and I went on to Doodle to meet up with Kirt( Adventurer) for a couple of wet ones.
Thank guys ! to  all who came along for the ride.
I really enjoyed all your company,oh! and you Mountain Boy.Even if you  are moving to Bothasig!

Mark Hardy`s got the pics.
So I`m sure he will post them soon

Hey Wes,

Those boots look like bad news.  looking at the ankle part of the boot there appears to be little support. Reason i am saying this is because i have broken my ankle from boots looking like that. Ankle support from boots are a must. Just a observation. Could be the photo maybe too that is giving me the wrong impression.

Looks like a lekker track you guys have got there. That pic showing the windpump though, I couldn't help noticing it looks a lot like this one I found on the net.

Sorry to miss the ride today but I don,t think I'll be riding for some time at the moment. The bike is in need of a pair of shoes and a vist to the doctor.

Yup,

Entry too fast, muddy water all over the visor, take the wrong line BANG!  :confused2: I do think the Dakar is TOTALLY to blame. It doesn't give you the true sensation of the speed you're travelling at. (Well, this is what I told the wife when I got home and she read me he riot act.  :evil5:) One's gotta practice this stuff.

Thanks for the pics Mark,

Lawrence
p.s. Mark, get in touch if you got your new number.

they're sturdier than they look, and have held up pretty well in a few falls already.
you're probably right though, but i just don't have the dosh at the moment for MX boots  :(
