Hi guys,
err, sorry, meisies ook ;-)
anybody considered a temporary bike swap?
I'm living south of Munich/Bavaria, just a wheelspin away from the Alps. My bike is a '93 R 80 GS, fully equipped with alu panniers and tank bag. Enhanced suspension. A reliable & comfortable bike. Pillion no problem.

I have no definite plans to tour Europe yet. What are your plans?
When do you intend visiting South Africa? I live in Pretoria.
-
WHEN DO YOU WANT TO COME?
I have a Cagiva Navigator with the TL1000R that might be available as well as a guest house on the beachfront in Port Elizabeth.
Are you ex - SA?
-
Hi KatieMe & Navigator,
sorry to come back so late, but I had posted this question at the same time under "Trade, buy & sell" and didn't check this thread :-[
Yep, I'm an ex-pat, but living in Germany for ages now. I zoomed around Southern Africa for a couple of months in 2006 on my old GS and carried on for some more months in OZ before returning to Munich. Here are some pics me & my friend took during the SA ride: http://picasaweb.google.com/Vaufi1947/SouthernAfrica2006Hans Sorry, colours aren't always good, because they are scanned slides. Was a brilliant ride for sure!
Most probably I'll be visiting friends & relatives during March to May 2009. If plans are finalised I'll PM you, because I'll be visiting friends in Pretoria North probably in March and will definitely travel past PE by mid April. The least would be to have a cold :laughing4:

There's a BMW bike club in Pretoria and you may find someone interested there...

Is Hans still coming out to play?
Had to postpone the visit to next year same time. Yebo, beginning of March 2010. Won't stay for the soccer games though ::)
What about you? No Europe tour in mind?
-
Hey Hans I may be in Munich in 2011 on the way to the black forest and on to Scotland. Probably in August 2011. Let me know if you come through East London in the Eastern Cape.

2011  That's still two years to go... But better late than never :D If I'm there, you're welcome.
I thought about S.A next year in March/April, but had to change plans. Will you be at home in May? I might pass through East London and stay there for a night to visit relatives. So that would be a good chance for a beer or three :laughing4:
I'll PM you when I get near to E.L.

Ya still two years but we planning a serious trip through Africa. Five bikes as well as some 4 x 4's - seperate until Kenya and then we meet up to go through the desert.
We plan to finish in Scotland. One of our crew has a house in the Black Forest so some will finish there but the rest will push on to Scotland.
Let me know when you this way - we can have a couple of pints. :thumleft:
-
Trying to make me envious :patch: Which route are you going? Via Egypt/Syria/Turkey? If yes, you're bound to pass somwhere near Munich ;D
Enjoy the planning. It's nearly as much fun as the trip itself.
I might get near E.L. around the 19./20.05. Will keep in touch :occasion14:
-
We plan to go through Egypt, Libya, Algeria and then Italy.
Have another meeting on Thursday - you right these meetings are the few I look forward to.
-
Hi Charlw,
I'm heading off to Europe in June, going through England, Wales, Scotland, France, Southern Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.
Will let you know if i come across any awesome places, no plans on Wales and Scotland, just winging it :ricky:
-
I am sure you will have an awesome trip - take photos and set up a ride report! look forward to it
-
If any of you guys are coming true Italy, just write on the www.gspassion.com forum (international area) and for sure some good information and help will be given. ;)
-
Hey Fela - thanks for that link man. (not a lot of English there!)
I'm planning to be in Italy during June next year and would love to do a short (3 day or so) ride from Naples to Sicily.
-

Charlw, sorry to say, but for several reasons I had to change plans and instead of going past E.L. I had to head straight for Vanderbijl :'( So, no beer for this time. Still, if you plan to go to Europe, you're welcome. So are all Wilddogs coming somewhere near Munich.
S'long as you don't plan to stay for weeks on end :eek7: My wife will kick my ass...
Hans
PS: I suppose the bike looks old due to my lack of driving skills  ;D Won't talk about the missus...
-
Hi Hans. Sorry to hear that.
Yes we still having monthly meetings for our trip. I will let you know closer to the time. We have accommodation in the Black Forest. When we get close to you, you can ride out to meet us and ride back with us. Still a way off but keep in touch!

As said above: Do pop in if you'll be around Munich in June. We've got enough space to accommodate more than one biker. But contact me by email before arriving, since I'm not always at home. My email address is on my profile.
