Title: DRZ400E RPM's
Post by: Spozzy on October 17, 2013, 05:50:19 pm
Can anybody tell me what The Max RPM is and where the redline would be on this bike. I am installing a Vapour display, so i guess soon enough I will be able to see what Max is, but i would like to know when i'm thrashing it on the dangerous side. I figure (with no scientific evidence to back me up) that she wont wear out as fast on the south side of red.

Just found this http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=16973.0. (http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=16973.0.) which just about answers all my questions, but then poses another. In the KLR pictures, redline starts at 7K5, but max power between 8K and 9K doesn't sound right.

DRZZ400S: 40 HP (29.2 kW)) @ 7600 RPM

You should set your (safe) red line just above the RPM where you have max. power i.e. 8,000RPM - 8,500RPM
Can't find figures for the "faster DRZ400E motor but it does make power a tad further up.

I don't think it's clever to set it much higher than 9,000RPM for a roller bearing crank of the size used in the DRZ unless you're happy with frequent crank rebuilds.

Thanks LeCap, that is the sort of feedback I was looking for, I'd rather not do any crank rebuilds, so keeping it below 9K shouldn't be a problem.
