                                                          The Two Dinosaurs Do Namibia

Ok Ok it was two years ago.
                                                                        Any Way.

This is How it came to be.

Mmm so me and Ian (Ian In Great Brak River} is having this lekker  discussion about bikes and all those other lekker gootes that us ous chat about when he tunes me. Hey my china have you ever considered doing gravel roads? Now im a Tar rider who does a bit of the gravel thing to get to the jols and such gootes. So I tunes to him why? Well why donít I think about it and he tunes me all about this site WD and I must check it out and join up if im interested. So I check out the site and scheme to my self why not. Ian has done a few trips and I checked out his RRís as well as a lot of other ous RRís as well, it looks as if these ous are having a moerse jol. And to top it all off I actually dig nature.
So I tunes to him ok im game lets do it.

So what do I need? Duh!! A bike which handles gravel and tar and all of those places those mad ous take there bikes into, as my old but faithful Kawaís are not made for such riding.

So I check around and me being a bit of a kort gat am sukkeling to find a boney which I smaak and can feel comfy on. Eventually come across an AT XRV 750. For you ous that donít know, its an Africa Twin, Bit high but I took one look and knew I had found my DP bike and it had all the extras I needed for the trip.

So I get hold of Ian and tune him we on boet, he tunes me what to buy and all those gootes I will need. Lucky I have a lot of those gootes from my rally days.

Cool Hey. So now we are going to Namibia and my first long Gravel Roads.
He makes the plans I buy the necessary kit and all the stuff for the trip andĒwallaĒ the time has come to start a new adventure in my life. Little realizing that it would change a lot in my life. (DAM GRAVEL ROADES)

Ian does the planning as im still learning the ropes and I aint got a cooking clue what to expect. Lucky for me I had a couple of cold ones to entertain my self with.

The trip starts
Tune my daughter that she can ride down to George with me and have a bit of a holiday as she has never been down that way.(Her first major long trip on a bike) Needles to say her ass was of.(HE HE) Arrive in George, meet up with Ian at his house and have a few cold ones. Then go and show my daughter the sites and have a bit of a jol and a few cold ones as we show her Ianís side of the country.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/004_zpsc5eff196.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/004_zpsc5eff196.jpg.html)

Next day the two Dinosaurs are sitting on the stoep talking kak and discussing the route and such.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/005_zps1db76f40.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/005_zps1db76f40.jpg.html)

Check out this rare photo, Yes im actually drinking some coffee.

Ian had bought us some Ribzz stretches and he tested his out that night on the balcony, I opted to kip on a nice soft bed.

Make arrangements for my daughter who is not chuffed with us as you could see she wanted to cruise with us as she digs bikes just as much as her old man.
But nooit man this is a Buddy thing so got her a bus ticket to go back home to Pretoria.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/007_zps9eb86a76.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/007_zps9eb86a76.jpg.html)

The day dawns and the two Dinosaurs start there trip.

We cruise to Swartberg Pass and we do a  bit of site seeing along the way, we are going to kip over in Sutherland.

Last time me and Ian went up this pass I was on a 1000j Kawa and he was on his Honda, it was snowing, made an interesting ride, with a bit of slips here and there but never the less we had some great fun going up and coming down

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/11a_zps21f3d6f6.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/11a_zps21f3d6f6.jpg.html)

Well lekker weather and the pass was quite so we had a lekker rustige cruise.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/12_zps25ecfa23.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/12_zps25ecfa23.jpg.html)

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/12a_zps3f2b2875.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/12a_zps3f2b2875.jpg.html)

And down we came, we now at the bottom of the pass (he he)

We then headed of to prince Albert for a lunch and one or two cold ones. Mmm the trip has started. For you ous that donít know me I enjoy a cold one here and there.(he he)

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/13_zpsaf0a18aa.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/13_zpsaf0a18aa.jpg.html)

We stop at Prince Albert for a graze and one or two cold ones, now as Ian is getting back on his boney, he almost lets it fall over as some dam street kids are harassing us for money, in the attempt to stop it from going 180 degrees he ruks it back only to hear some thing go pop in his arm. and an acute pain shoots up his arm. He had not realized it yet but he had torn the tendon, lucky not all the way threw. This of course would come back to haunt him later on in the trip

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/18_zpsf3712820.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/18_zpsf3712820.jpg.html)

We went via Merweville and even had to open and close some bloody gates to get there.

My first time in Sutherland

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/15_zps2aa6cbbe.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/15_zps2aa6cbbe.jpg.html)

It wasnít even that cold, but I did make sure to have a few cold ones, just in case, went and checked out the stars with those little telescope thingies. Next morning it was a bit koud, I think those cold ones were wearing off. Any way a lekker breakfast, load up kit, fill up tanks and off we go.

Now I have grown up on bikes and really enjoy the rides, had done a reasonable amount of dirt. but this was different riding  from what I was used to, a new challenge for me, but ya what the hell itís a road as such, only difference its sand. Mmm Ya those gedaagtes would come back to bite me on the ass.

Now as I was cruising down this lekker sandy road, that old Murphy ou played a prank on me ( im sure) because there was this moerse big 4X4 truck thingy coming towards me, so I scheme to myself that seeing that this ou is a moerse lot bigger than me I would like cruise a bit to the side of the soft sand which is coming up so I slacked off to about walking pace to let him pass by and as he passes by I feel the bikes starts to fall over and age nee man I donnerd down.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/16_zpsc245d341.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/16_zpsc245d341.jpg.html)

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/16a_zpsbb68204e.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/16a_zpsbb68204e.jpg.html)

Nobody had ever told me look up open up and get threw it and the Bastard didnít even stop to help me pick up the bike. He must of schemed to himself that hey that ous a biker and his moerse tough so he can pick it up his self. No problem I scheme to myself I will just pick up the bike myself, im a dinosaur, a biker, a WD and we ous are moerse strong ous, so I take hold of her, ya right, she budges a little and thatís all, so I scheme I must be doing this picking up thing all wrong, so I take out the only cold one I have and start to drink it whilst I contemplate this problem. No solution to this dilemma but I have checked pics where you ous take of all the kit, so I do that, then try again.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/17_zps0e7db53c.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/17_zps0e7db53c.jpg.html)

Kit off mmm bike comes up with no problem, was great full for having a cold one at hand to help the brain sort out the problem. @%$^%@ at the guy in his 4X4. Kit on and off I go. Needles to say old Ian got a couple of @#%$#$@ words from me as well, as he was a couple of km ahead of me and not there to help pick up the bloody Monster. And I also sommer flooked @#$$$#@ at myself for being an idiot and letting the bike fall.

Meet old Ian further up the track, tune him what happened but Ian being Ian looks at me with a straight face and does not say much. Iím sure he was having a lekker laugh at my expense.

Now ive read about how you ous normally sukkel at the border posts well give a man credit where its due, one two and three and we are through, now my main concern at the border post that these ous were going to check out our kit and then find all of my cold ones and confiscate them and leave me bone dry, luck was on my side, no kit check so I had all my cold ones to myself.

So of to Nam we go, ok hang on we are already in Nam, Oops sorry thatís what happens when the cold ones start to leave ones system.

On the Bridge

Thereís even a sign to let one know you in Nam

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/20_zpscef71699.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/20_zpscef71699.jpg.html)

We cruise onwards to Felix Unite to camp for the night. As we book in Ian hears this dude shouting at him, it a lost bud of his they aint seen each other for 30years. Introductions are made and they are chatting away like some old huis vroue and I open a cold one , hoping that they will miss the ssssh sound as ive only got 2 left and am moerse dors after the long ride, luck is on my side as they are talking so much kak  that I manage to drink all the cold ones by myself. They still talking kak so I go to verken the joint. The Gods are once again smiling on me, thereís a moerse bar filled with lotsa cold ones just waiting for me, I was like a kid in a candy store. They even let a ou take them with you so I could now go back and offer Ian, his bud and misses a cold one.

The two steeds.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/21_zps765e97f6.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/21_zps765e97f6.jpg.html)

The camp site.

Sommer put up our tents on the lawn close to the place that sells cold ones. The owner tuned us it was ok, I think he saw the desperate look on my face to have to walk far to replenish my supply of cold ones for the night, so happy guys we are and we span our tents for the night.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/22_zpsa561e8cc.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/22_zpsa561e8cc.jpg.html)

As it turned out the gods sommer smiled at me again because Ianís old bud Dave and his wife Sonja also smaaked cold ones so we had a lekker Braai, kuier and some good company, not to say that Ianís company aint good but he doesnít drink as much cold ones as we did and we all no the more cold ones a ou drinks the lekkerde the geselskap gets.

Next morning we catch an early breakfast and say our goodbyes and off we go to check out the gravel and the scenery of this possie. Wait Ian has been in Nam before so his just here for the ride, ok I suppose he might also want to check out the possie as well and I suppose the scenery too.

So here I am cruising along minding my own business and thinking about the lekker cold ones I had the night before and the lekker kak we spoke when all of a sudden my bike starts skuttering like a demon out of hell, breaking my speed sommer fast down and making my head feel like a ball in those pin ball machines, sommer in the inside of my helmet. I check down to see what has gone wrong with my bike as I almost schemed that I had lost my front wheel or some thing like that only to see that nooit man the whole bloody road we riding in is one mass of corrugation, and I sommer new that this was not going to help the babelaas that I was nursing. Now that just aint lekker for a ou, I mean dam life some times just has to be mean and gooi you a curve ball. I mean the head was still sort of lekker (ok ok I know you ous that know me will not agree with this statement) but now I could feel that those cold ones and that road are sommer not going to work lekker together for my head, Agga no man. Nothing I could do about it but to push on.  You see I was right, head sommer started to feel soar and I could feel the swet starting, and I also knew that I was gonna loose all of those cold ones that were still pumping along in my veins because of the stupid road.

Get a bit further down the road and the corrugations ease up, so I become a happy ou, come up to Ian next to the road, thereís this sign tuning Rosh Pinah 100km

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/24_zps407cbdfa.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/24_zps407cbdfa.jpg.html)

Nooit man donít know if im gonna make it that far as im already starting to dehydrate and I have no cold ones as I drank them all last night and am now forced to drink aaah (water) just doesnít taste the same.

Me and Ian by our bikes.

I check this sign showing fish but as we did not bring our fishing rods with we had to abandon the idea. Was sommer not chuffed with Ian as he was here before and should of planned better.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/29b_zps11dc8869.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/29b_zps11dc8869.jpg.html)

Then its back on the bikes and we cruise on, dam this place is hot so im forced to drink some more aaah (water) from the camel pack on my back and I thought it was there for ďshow and tellĒ.( For some or other stupid reason Ian would not allow me to fill it up with cold ones)

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/30_zps60ef1362.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/30_zps60ef1362.jpg.html)

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/30a_zps52b436a4.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/30a_zps52b436a4.jpg.html)

So we turn right onto the D463 and then left onto the D459 which has a lot of dry river beds and is quite sandy in places which makes a ous bike wobble and stuff. But hey its okay as at least there aint that bloody corrugation to ruk the hell out of me

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/31_zpsca00fd4b.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/31_zpsca00fd4b.jpg.html)

Even had to put the feet out to stop me from donnering over. So then Ian tunes me, no man, stand on the pegs and look up and open up and you wont have a problem, told you ous this china of mine he can think about all these problem things and sommer sort them out, even with out having a cold one. So I try it and dam he was right its sommer made a lot of difference

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/31b_zpsd9a5305e.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/31b_zpsd9a5305e.jpg.html)

Ian is cruising some where ahead of me and taking some nice pics and enjoying the ride as I was doing.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/32_zps9b057aa4.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/32_zps9b057aa4.jpg.html)

But not any more as im now taking some kak photos.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/33a_zpse90033a7.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/33a_zpse90033a7.jpg.html)

I misjudged this soft sand stuff and came pipe, was cruising saw the sand took a spoor which turned out to be the wrong one and the bike went towards a doring boom

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/34_zpsdea819f3.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/34_zpsdea819f3.jpg.html)

So I turned slightly and the next thing I saw was me going threw the wind shield and coming to a rest a few meters in front of my bike.Ē He he that was funĒ. Check out the time and distance.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/35_zpsd81d1ba4.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/35_zpsd81d1ba4.jpg.html)

No cold ones to drown my sorrow ,I started to dig out my front wheel, while a bloody baboon sat there and watched me (spose he thought this was hilarious)took some pics, had some aaah (water), kit off, bike up.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/36_zps0e8878e6.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/36_zps0e8878e6.jpg.html)

Some more aaah (water) (was actually getting used to the stuff) kit on bike, had some more aaah (water). Could of sat there contemplating the situation and waited for Ian to come looking for me, but no, not one cold ones to keep me company $##^%$#%$ at myself for not restocking . Off I go to find Ian.

Met up with Ian as he was coming back to look for me.
See if I had a couple of cold ones I would not of had to do the laborious task of getting all the kit off and picking up the bike all by my lone some and then having to put all the bloody kit back on again. @#@$# at myself sommer again. Well once again as you ous know. Me and Ian we are Dinosaurs we are bikers we are tough ous and so are our bikes, so no injuries except for my wind shield and ďYaĒ my (pride).

Have a bit of a rest and talk about what happened and ya well of we go.

Title: Re: The two Dinosaurs Do Namibia

Now Ian in all of his wisdom had actually crossed over this quaint little stream,
he decided to wait for me so he could take pics of me crossing it.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/38_zps13a60bc4.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/38_zps13a60bc4.jpg.html)

(He he ) he had to cross it 3 times in one day and it was not a quaint little stream but a lousy water crossing with lekker mud at the bottom as well. So im pretty sure that he #%$$ at me a few times.
Mean while he opted to take some mooi photos of the scenery. See I told you ous that he most probably wanted to also check out the possie.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/39_zps7eb572fb.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/39_zps7eb572fb.jpg.html)

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/39a_zps7dd5e7b3.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/39a_zps7dd5e7b3.jpg.html)

So a bit further down the drag we stop to take a break and drink some aaah (water) when He looks at me and says how could I be so bloody stupid, So I tune him hey whatís your bloody problem, its not you who came off and it doesnít help to get da moer in, when he checks me out with this blank expression and then it dawns on him that I skimmed he was calling me stupid, and says. No no, not you im talking about myself. Its me who is bloody stupid as we havenít let air out of our tyres and we are still riding on tar pressure. Hu!, so what I tune to him.  He then tunes me that we have to let air out as it makes a moerse difference on the handling. Ok I tune so lets do it. He then pulls out this tyre gauge thingy and we drop the front pressure down to1.5 bar and dam what a difference it makes. @%$#@%$ as I swore at him.

Tonight we planned to stop at Aua Vista and we still had a long way to go, Petrol was running low as evening was approaching us.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/40_zps806001a9.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/40_zps806001a9.jpg.html)

So after a bit of  a convo, we decided that as he was the faster rider of us two that he would go ahead to some town (cant remember its name)( Jees old age sucks) and get some petrol there in case they close early. Tuned him to get us some cold ones as well as by this time I was moerse thirsty. Of he goes, I finally get to the T- junction, thereís Ian so I stop. Good news or bad he asks me, what the hell give me the bad first. Ghost town he says, no petrol and to make things even worse, now we still had no cold ones. Ah shit I tune as we still have 90km to go and im already on 280km and running low, so whatís the good news I ask him. Oh ive got a tow rope he tunes and my bike has a wider petrol range than yours so if you run dry  I can at least tow you. Ya right the sun is going down and thereís no way his gonna tow me in the dark. So I slip stream him and we cruise along doing 80km a hour,  eventually see a sign board 40km to Aua Vista so I scheme stuff this and open up, needles to say I just managed to get there, Filled up the tank, had 1/2 a liter left talk about a close call.

We book in, drop of the kit, change and then go and have a lekker graze and a cold one or two. Ya right a few cold ones to wash down the gravel (from my little crashing incident) which buy this time was causing major havoc in my throat, (well thatís my story and im sticking to it.) Must say the sand tastes the same as in RSA. So now im at least feeling a whole lot better. Place was rather busy, a lot of cages round. Back to our sleeping quarters, had a nice cold one in the shower for company and hit the bed and was lights out.  The quaint possie.

Im on the left his on the right.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/41_zps5473112f.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/41_zps5473112f.jpg.html)

Loved that place as it had lots and lots of cold ones, even had a fridge with cold ones in it for us dors travelers. Only one problem I encounted in Namibia is that most of the places you get to they only have Windhoek lager, or Windhoek light, or Windhoek draught, it looks as if this is the customary  cold one in that country,  but donít let it worry you ous, as one quickly learns to adapt. Still cant figure it out.

Bright and early the next morning we pack on the kit, check out the bikes and get ready to take on the roads.

Check out the cool t shirt

Ian is always bitching to leave early. So we left at about 09h00 hey thatís early for me.

Check out this road and the nice scenery, this is why we are here, to be at peace with ones self and nature and of course the lekker ride and good company. Good roads, no cages around so we having a bloody good ride.

Unfortunately it is short lived as it turns into a nightmare as the bloody corrugation is back with a vengions, agga no man these ous should grade these bloody roads better as they donít seem to agree with me. We some how miss the D707 and end up at this possie.

Fill up our bikes have a cold one and a smoke break, take a pic or two and discuss how the road turned out to be so shitty.]

Corrugation still hasnít let up and its getting worse, our average speed is 90km so we stop for some short breaks.

Lucky we aint got far to go as Solitaire is our destination for the night, so cruise along just checking out the possie, at least this section aint to bad as every now and again the road becomes smooth, so I decide to stop and take a few pics and let Ian catch up to me.

But ya fate has a hand (or should I say a Knee and a Arm) to play. Now an old rugby injury has started to catch up to me and all this corrugation is starting to take its toll on my knee and its starting to hurt like hell, so im actually trying to put most of my weight on my left leg and its throwing my balance on the bike out. I can also see that Ian is trying to ride one handed as if his arm is sore but as you ous no, we are dinosaurs, we are bikers we are WD we are moerse tough ous so we push along. Come down the road and find Ian waving for me to stop, We came to this place in the middle of no where. La Mirage and desert Spa.

Of course all the WD know that the only reason to have "cold ones" was to ensure that the dreaded disease of dehydration did not set in. I am so glad your took medical advice and avoided the disease.

Great RR and looking forward to more

Not a nice disease to have and the withdrawal systems are even worse as they tend to lead to forgetfulness and mi judgement and head aches etc.  Glad you enjoying the RR. The  :ricky: will continue a wee bit later

We have a chat, his arm is hurting as well as my bloody knee so we discard solitaire with the hope we can get two rooms here for the night.. Ian goes in, luck is on our side once again, so we get rooms for the night.
A bit pricy but well worth it.

Unpack the bikes, kit in room, wash out socks . Short pants T shirt and plakkies on, I go to verken the joint. Find the pool.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/71_zps2bc17909.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/71_zps2bc17909.jpg.html)

Yes the gods are once again smiling at me, they have this possie called a bar right by the pool. A ou can buy the daily essentials there after a long trip. Cold ones and oh other stuff to drink as well. Well who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth so I amble up to the bar counter and order a cold one which didnít last long so I had to order another one.

Now you can imagine how chuffed I was to find this place, thought of going to call Ian , decided against it as I was worried that they didnít have enough stock on hand and that some other thirsty ou might get there and drink up all the cold ones. A few cold ones later I felt much better as the dust from Ianís bike finally washed away. Jumped in the pool to wash away the outer dust, just about then along comes Ian so we of to the bar so that he can also wash down the dust, think I still had some dust in me so had to make sure and had a cold one or two with him. Dam I liked that place.

The two injuries that caused us to stop over.

Ianís arm is not shaping up too good and neither is my knee, we both on antiflamatries and pain pills.

Had a magic supper. 3 course meal, relaxed, talked some kak had a cold one and off to sleep, next morning a lekker breakfast, packed up and ready to go.

But first as we were not riding with colors on, club thing, we had to take a photo of the flag just to piss the ous of and to make them lekker jealous. Ian is one of the first 9 members of the club.

Oops almost forgot to mention Yes I organized some stock for the road, canít make the same mistake twice now can we?

Oh yes, some idiot had tuned us that Solitair had no petrol so we had filled up one of the portable bladders, for just in case. Cool it takes 7lt.Mmm, lets a ou think of all sorts of possibilities. Ya right I know what you ous are thinking. ďShame on you ousĒ, I was thinking how handy it would be to carry extra water with incase we needed it.(thatís my story and im sticking to it)

Meet these german ous in there 4X4 plus trailer who could not believe that we had just about every thing on our bikes that they had with them. Extra fuel, tents, water, food. Compressor, tow rope, sleeping bags, stretchers, gas stoves, braai grid etc and most important of all Cold ones.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/81_zps8da9fe00.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/81_zps8da9fe00.jpg.html)

So here I am busy doing my thing when Ian calls me. Three guys had come over to check out my screen less XRV

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/82_zpsbbf6747d.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/82_zpsbbf6747d.jpg.html)

Ian was tuning them how I took this lekker fall in there part of the country, (dam my pride really starts to take a knock as these ous are having a good laugh at my expense) then one ou slaps me sommer on the back and tunes. Hey man donít worry Namibia aint Namibia if you donít come off, and hey ive got a buddy whoís got a wind shield for an ATV collecting dust in his garage, so his on the phone and this guy phones that guy and a few calls later its arranged, they have got me a screen, to top it all as we going to stop over in Swakop they know another guy whoís going down that way and will sommer deliver it the next day to us. Now they even refuse payment for it, so after a lot of bantering we finally get them to accept a case of cold ones.
Now money had no meaning to these blokes, but there faces sure did light up about the cold ones. Gives a guy this warm feeling to no thereís other ous out there who enjoy cold ones as much as I do.(once again thanx guys)

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/83_zps7c3393a1.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/83_zps7c3393a1.jpg.html)

So we once again in the saddle and eventually we see more more lekker scenery so we stop for a aah smoke break and some water, Ya right and we take a few more pics of our travels and the mooi scenery.

Back on the road again just cruising along lekker when all of a sudden I check out this black stuff ahead of me. I sommer got a moerse skruk and gooi on the breaks.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/89_zpsd525877c.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/89_zpsd525877c.jpg.html)

Stop  and  go check it out . Ian must have thought I had lost it. (he he). It was wait for it wait for it (Tare)

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/90_zps97f52785.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/90_zps97f52785.jpg.html)

By this time I had actually forgotten what the stuff looked like. Sommer net so, dirt ends and tar starts, enough to give any body a skrik. Now after my initial skrik I get back on the bike and gently ease forward, I take it very slow at first as im not quite sure how my bike is gonna handle this stuff. Mmm seems all right so I gently accelerate to a cruising speed. Still not so sure if I should trust it or not.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/91_zps80d78558.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/91_zps80d78558.jpg.html)

Check out the dunes in the vlaktes.
Apparently they called dune 7, why?I aint got a cooking clue. To top it all thereís a bunch of mal ous walking or should I rather tuneĒ trying to get the topĒ.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/92_zps7f0d2fa2.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/92_zps7f0d2fa2.jpg.html)

When they get to the top, they check out whatís on the other side, it must be some thing that gives them a groot skrik because next thing you know they are running back down waving there arms , donnering down, jumping up repeating the whole process until they are safely back down.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/93_zps11502630.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/93_zps11502630.jpg.html)

Scheme to myself.
Now thatís pretty stupid, to sukkel to the top, only to have the shits scared out of you and then to run and ploeg down and so on just to get to the bottom. No man these ous just arenít lekker in the head.

They have this lekker possie at the bottom that sells cold ones so while I refresh my self, Ian decides to go closer to the dune and check out whatís going on there.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/94_zps277bab5a.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/94_zps277bab5a.jpg.html)

Next thing I check him coming back with a stink spoed, Well as you ous no we are Dinosaurs, we are bikers, we are WD we are moerse tough ous but what ever was on the other side Ian wanted nothing to do with it. Think it still haunts him as he want speak about it.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/95_zps1e9e3f3c.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/95_zps1e9e3f3c.jpg.html)

So we cruise on, take a quick ride threw Walvis Bay and then we head of to Swakopmund for the night.

Now we still on this black stuff and next to it is lots of sand and next to the sand is this moerse expand of water for all to see.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/96_zpsab662153.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/96_zpsab662153.jpg.html)

It even has these moerse big boats on it.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/97_zpsc80a345a.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/97_zpsc80a345a.jpg.html)

Apparently its called the wait for it wait for it the (Sea).

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/98_zpsa0c79534.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/98_zpsa0c79534.jpg.html)

We find a guest house. Meikeís Guesthouse

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/99_zps8b2be1fc.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/99_zps8b2be1fc.jpg.html)

All thatís available is the Care takers cottage and his away. So Ian after learning all those lekker moves from me on how to sweet talk a woman finally pays off and he secures the cottage for us. (Im so proud of my protachy).

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/100_zpsb2b0f6e9.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/100_zpsb2b0f6e9.jpg.html)

My knee is by this time giving me hell as well as Ianís arm, so we decide to stay over for 2 days and recuperate and do some minor repairs, like ram mounts, lube the chain and a few other stuff.

Now im a ou that believes that if one is visiting a foreign country one should at least have the decency to contribute to the growth of that country, so I do my fair share with the cold ones. Oh and Ian also had a few.
Dam that kak C14 hit us hard.

So we play the tourist game. Go to the beach front and because us two ous is moerse honger, we have some sea food, me im an oyster ou so I had my fair share of them whilst Ian had some calamari and of course the ritual of a few cold ones to let our meal settle. (So you see we once again was contributing to the economy of the country)Hell but we nice ous aint we.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/102_zpsd1475cb4.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/102_zpsd1475cb4.jpg.html)

Check these other ous goofing in the sea, so I scheme nooit that looks like fun so of to the water I go to join them. Now you ous all should no by this time that we are dinosaurs, we are bikers we are WD we are moerse tough ous ,but shit man that water is so bloody koude that I sommer run away from it. Bang goes that idea. Ian whoís having a good laugh at me and saying whatís the problem china. Tune him (nooit man the only way a ou can goof in that water is if you drink some anti freez before the time as it will sommer make your blood freeze )

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/103_zps595a8441.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/103_zps595a8441.jpg.html)

The ou rocks up with the wind shield, so later that day I put it on, Mmm that looks better. We take a ride and check out the town.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/104_zps566236f8.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/104_zps566236f8.jpg.html)

Nothing much else to do so we go and chill out.

Day two dawns and my knee is acting up, Ianís arm has also got worse so we are now both on antiflametries and pain pills which is interfering with the intake of the cold ones.
But hey we are dinosaurs, we are bikers, we are WD. we are moerse tough ous, so we take it in stride, but we also no that we gonna have to change our route, so out with the map and we change course.

Instead of going on to Upupa Falls we head of for Spitzkoppe which was a stop any way.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/105_zps60d1129c.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/105_zps60d1129c.jpg.html)

See some wild life along the route.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/106_zps094c33b3.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/106_zps094c33b3.jpg.html)

We get to the turn off and take it slow as a fall now could upset one of our injuries and stuff up the trip.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/107_zps8be6f083.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/107_zps8be6f083.jpg.html)

See some locals in there hot rods.(2 donkey power)

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/108_zpsce3258c4.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/108_zpsce3258c4.jpg.html)

Now our supply of cold ones has run dry, so we find this little shop where we can replenish our supply, only to find all they got is hot ones, well a beggar cant be a chooser so we buy some any way. Then this ou tunes us thereís another possie down the road and they will have cold, cold ones (Now thatís what I call a good sales man)

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/109_zps0e1f943b.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/109_zps0e1f943b.jpg.html)

Of we cruise to the other possie.
Nafdol Inn Beer Garden

As the sign says Ö.
Then its off to the Water Berg Lodge for the night.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/131_zps5212010e.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/131_zps5212010e.jpg.html)

Shitty place as they adamant that they will not allow the bikes in.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/132_zps0d26c917.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/132_zps0d26c917.jpg.html)

I mean come on the camp site is 150meters away, we are standing there looking at it. Decide what the Hell, we here so we decide to spend the night. Set up camp and have a cold one or two.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/133_zpsa61eef42.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/133_zpsa61eef42.jpg.html)

Off to the shop to get some meat and stuff for a lekker braai.
Ian ops for some skaap tjops and wors and I get vark tjops as im stukkend hungry, no bread available so we get a tin of sweet corn to go with the meat.

The long trek back to the camp site. A whole150 meters, dam tiring stuff this walking so back at camp am forced to have another cold one. Mmm that feels better so we start the preparations for the braai.
Fire going strong, tin of sweet corn open, gas stoves out torches out so we can see what we have to see (he he). So all thatís left to do now is to wait for the fire to burn its self down. Boring this waiting stuff so I entertain myself with a cold one or two whilst we talk  about our great adventures and ok ok we just a whole lot of kak that buddies normally talk about. Like if only Mr and Mrs Vis Arend was here they could of made us that lekker bread they always making on those bike trips they do and other sukke goed

Fire down to coals so on goes the meat, check out the braai grid thingy.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/134_zpsdcd3f6f8.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/134_zpsdcd3f6f8.jpg.html)

Canít forget about the lekker Sweet corn so it  also gets taken care of.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/135_zps30178c45.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/135_zps30178c45.jpg.html)

Food all done so we get stuck in and graze like only a honger ou can graze! Tummies all lekker full so we just park around talking some more kak and some interesting stuff also. I mean like there aint much else to do.

Next morning 6am, get woken up by a moerse noise, Baboons are raiding the dust bins, Ian does his best to chase them away  (as he knows how I hate it when my sleep gets disturbed and then im sommer grumpy as I havenít had my morning aah.(coffee) ) Eventually he  gives up the bloody baboons have won!!! Ian sucks at chasing baboons away. He he

Excellent place. Challeighs, challeighs with Jacuzzis, swimming pool, paddle boat rides, restaurant, shop which sells all the necessary stuff a ou needs to make ones life easy like meat wood and lots a other stuff inside it as well as cold ones. So we book a challeigh with a Jacuzzi as my knee is doners sore. We want to buy some cold ones but they tune us donít worry thereís a fridge inside the challeigh that has cold ones in it. So cool, we of to the challeigh. Park bikes kit of etc. Aah now to relax, open fridge and to my horror it only has 4 cold ones in it. Well we open 2 of them and wash down the dust.

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/138_zps5372beca.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/138_zps5372beca.jpg.html)

Then I get a cold one and jump into the Jacuzzi to relax my knee and soak away all the dirt and grime

(http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t675/alleni1996/nam/139_zpsb5f22612.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/alleni1996/media/nam/139_zpsb5f22612.jpg.html)

Next thing I hear Ianís bike start and off he goes. Scheme to myself now where is he going? Not like him to just up and go. So any way here I am lying in the Jacuzzi when it dawns on me. Hey he hasnít had the other cold one so of I go to the fridge. Yes to my luck there it is. Skim to myself man he didnít look that thirsty so im pretty sure he want mind if I zooi the last cold one. Cold one in hand im back to the Jacuzzi. Lying back enjoying the cold one immensely and then I start to feel guilty for zooing the last cold one and  his gonna kak me out, too late now so I drown my guilt and finish it.

Now I hear him coming back and start to think up all of these excuses to tune him, like the cold one was calling me or it just happened to come to the Jacuzzi all by its self and forced me to drink it or some other kak excuses like that.

Now to all of you ous out there, this is what one calls a bloody good buddy. He actually went all the way to the shop which is about 3km away (nogal all by him self) and returned with, wait for it wait for it a ďdozen cold ones.Ē
Now I ask you ous is that a Great Buddy or what????

So an hour or two later bored as hell, was even playing with the cold ones in the Jacuzzi.

Get out of the Jacuzzi as by this time I was looking like a prune, to walk around the corner to find Ian lights out, shame the old ou must have been moerse tired from that long ride to the shop and back, so I leave him to sleep.

I ran some of those roads, slept over at Ourab dam etc also in 2012.

 :puke_l:
Worst camping meal  . Canned chicken mixed with provitas   :lol8:

Yip wasn't the best of meals, all though it didn't taste too bad, think those cold ones may of helped to numb the taste some what. Pity we missed each other. Ourab dam a beautiful place, have always wondered if they allow boats on it, as i think it would spoil the serenity of the place. glad you enjoyed, the RR. Some photos most prob brought back some memories.

It looked like a good idea at the time, think it was those bloody pain pills, as the cold ones normally give a ou good ideas, actually it didn't taste that bad, i think, maybe ok ok cant bloody remember, its the age thing. Kan darem nog onthou waar ons die hoener blikkies gekoop het en kan jou laat weet as jy braaf genoeg is. Glad you enjoyed the RR mate. Ons beplan om soos Ian gese het om in august/ september weer te gaan, maybe we catch you there, let us know when you plan on going. allen

Nice, glad you had a good laugh, try to put some humour into the RR's, but ye we generally have a good time and have our fair share of cold ones on thees trips. Normally its as hot as hell out there, so they do actually go down much better than aaah Water.(he he)
