Title: Rebeldog Warthog "Droogtehulp" Toer - March 2014
Post by: BOER! on March 17, 2014, 09:22:09 am
So I will start the thread.

It was a great weekend with lots of laughs, spills, high sides, low side, laydowns, put downs, hand downs and reach arounds.

Some crashes with flying bikes and pilots,  and some crashes with surfing bikes and pilots.

The weather was a beaut, the roads were better than we thought it would be and the company for the weekend was second to none.

I am downloading photos at the moment.

So Gooi honne!

Edit:  Thanx Franna en Swifty en Bender for organizing.   :thumleft:

OK - herewith my bit:

The first Rebel dog run for 2014 in the form of a warthog rough it ride commenced with some trepidation.
The rough it part of it was branded so in lieu of everyone camping in the middle of the farm in tents..................no fancy showers and soft beds and fridges and stuff this time.
We did organise a back up vehicle with a 3 bike trailer to bring the crashers (little did I know what was in store for me .......but more of that later!) and broken bikes home.
Most riders took their clothes and drinks to Hanno's possie the evening before and a double cab bakkie was packed to the hilt.

The 3 weeks constant rainfall in the Waterberg was a real concern
We didn't know whether we were going to try and ride or surf our bikes and if we were going to be turned around at low lying bridges .
In fact the evening before we left we heard that Bela Bela (Warmbaths) had been closed because of record levels of water flowing through the town at 6 foot levels.

How-ever - in true wilddog style convincing ourselves that..............'we are after all attempting an adventure ride......'
we gathered at the garage at 12 noon
I had a small problem with a front sprocket nut which had come loose because it was stripped
(cough cough...........runners mechanics worked on it last.....cough cough..............ahem) :peepwall:
Luckily Bender was going with his 450 and promptly arrived at my possie - nut in sack,  :ricky:ready for me to fasten with a 32 socket!
We hastily left for the garage and eventually got away from there at around 12:30.

The first part of the ride was part tar part dirt and we travelled through Mams to The Dinokeng reserve and from there to Hammanskraal where we had a smoke break. The next boring bit of tar to Pienaarsrivier was luckily the last of that.
Now the real fun starts!
More to follow...............................
(someone with the group photo at the garage - please post now)

Hier is my deel.

I packed and kitted my new Husky 610te for the weekend's ride.  Coming from a GSA, I was certainly looking forward to this trip more than I have in a long time.

I arrived early at Engen at Lynwood, and allready a bunch of guys were allready filled up.

As Swifty said, we went looking for the mud and the adventure.

Photo 1:  Husky loaded for the trip.

Photo 2:  Gathering at Engen

Photo 3: Quick break at Hammanskraal after the Dinokeng Reserve

Photo 4:  First fuel Refill at Piennaars rivier.  I need to get use to the 12L of fuel compared to the 35L of the GSA.

Photo 5:  Our back up vehicle with trailer.  How handy it was going to be, we never anticipated.

A lot of mud and waterpuddles took you by suprise.  It would look flat and shallow but as soon as you hit the water, a waterwall engulfed you.
Swifty is so popular in these parts that the little kids call him by name when he arrives.  Everybody had a quick beer and we were off again on a sandy two spoor road to see Swifty do his Flying Trapeze act.

When I got to his crash spot all the bikes were allready parked in front of me, and I saw a 950SE lying further down the road.

I saw swifty sitting next to the road looking dazed.

Bly jy is oraait tjomma.

Everybody was picking up bike parts and assisting with what needed to be done.  Got the bars straight again, cleaned the bike up, and while Swifty was recovering, some guys were explaining "The Swifty Trapese ACT".

A KTM Tree was planted of the fence as a reminder of a fortunate walk away.

Ok - here's what I can remember of the big fall down!
I was with Smokes in front and we were styling down a 2 spoor road between 2 settlements.
The road has these small indentation whoops in them which you can jump at the right pace
The problem is the faster you go the more fun it becomes
I was doing between 100 and 130 when I decided to 'jump' a dip in the road from a preceding dip.
BIG mistake - I remember thinking - 'the dirt is compacted and wet you idjit' when the front wheel just climbed skywards :o

I made an executive heart wrenching decision to throw my beloved katoom away when it landed over pivot point in fear of it landing on me.
in stead of the KTM seat I made hard contact with the muddy ground on my arse at around 100 k's /hour.
You say loudly - tuck and roll..........tuck and roll......
When I stopped rolling I remember crawling out of the way of the oncoming bikes.
The last thing you need is for some overeager mate to give you permanent tire marks on your love handles. :eek7:

The SE crashes extremely well.
I didn't see it cartwheel but it must have landed upside down after I threw it away because the screen, GPS bracket and right hand mirror was broken off
So was the front and back lights.
No other damage! ::)
Started first time............just frikken amazing

I rode the bike from the crash site a further 80 k's to the farm past Rooiberg and can remember feeling the swelling in my right thumb increase.
Must have sprained it - again........turned blue and black the next day ;D No chance of holding a throttle :'(
I knew I was going to be the camprat the next day and the bike will have to travel home on the trailer.

Some of the okes stayed behind in Rooiberg for a coupla Laagers while I carried onwards to the farm only to be surprised by a raging river before the campsite which we had to get through. - Seat height at least!
Unfortunately no pics of any crossings! :-\
Any one else took some?
The bakkie got stuck there twice with the farm owner behind the wheel ...............................and had to be pulled out by the tractor

Louis and Thinus arrived from Sannieshof in the Northwest on a 990 and a 690
They had apparently spent an hour and a half on a road of 15 or 20 k's at Dwaalboom on the way to the farm
It was good meeting you guys
Scholars and gentlemen ....these guys from the North west :thumleft:

You couldn't get the smiles off the faces
that is ...........................until later when the dop began to flow
.........................but that is another story to follow later
2 b c

The campsite:

I think he must think that these okes are frikken crazy.............and wish he could still be that carefree!
Meanwhile .....back at the ranch he rides that SE like a demon on steroids and we battle to keep up :thumleft:

Thanks guys for a great weekend. Its amazing that every time we arrange the Rebel Rides that we get a great group of guys together that just click . It must be that we all have the same love for riding. :3some:

Luckily I am a quiet individual and do not drink, swear or ride my bike like a hooligan. :pot:

Unfortunately I do not have many photos, was focusing on keeping the bike on the road pointing in the right direction after a small spill in the mud.

I do have a couple photo's on Anorexia’s spectacular fall, the best of the weekend, so glad he is OK. I was right behind him and Smokes when I saw bike, Franna, bike, Franna, bike, Franna landing right next to each other with the 990s on its back as if it wants to chill out. Not many would’ve gone through that donga in the road and not fall. We established that this was the third fall with Smokes right behind the rider. All agreed that going forward on this trip that he must ride in front to prevent anymore spills.

I cannot wait for the next ride.

Herewith a couple of photos.

Meanwhile Hanno and myself stayed in Camp and Hanno had to make a short jean pant from a long jean pant because it was hot!
The afternoon's return had a broken KTM and lots of stories in tow
Franna decided to demolish his bike and supply some entertainment to the other guys.

The evening brought lots of entertainment, good food and most guys crashed at 10
Some went bundu walking in the dark and apparently encountered the impala and some giraffe not far from camp
I think most of the game trekked to the opposite side of the farm for the w/e
I think that most of the impala would react positively on the word Po35 if you call them by it just because it was repeated so much over the course of the w/e

I specifically did not take a picture of Mr Hardy the next morning cause he looked worse than a hungry baby on a wooden tit...............when he attacked the water the next morning! Well done for leaving early :thumleft: If I remember your words correctly: If I get onto dirt right now I'll probably not make it to Pta - slab for me!

What a weekend and can you believe it Speswillie only made a slight appearance on Friday evening. I was so glad about that, it allowed me to enjoy the outride on Saterday.

The little Honda impressed more than I anticipated and for the conditions I think it was the right choice to leave the SE at home, did miss the power of the SE when the guys came gunning passed.

Picked up a small oil leak lucky nothing serious and I could finish the out ride on Saturday by just topping up the oil. I took a decision for safety sake to trailer the bike back on Sunday at one stage I was contemplating if there would be space for a mechanical sound bike with an oil leak on the trailer as it was farm buying season all around me, this winter we will have no problem to go hunting.
New game farm owners and some now own more than one farm in the area are Smokes, Frana, Swifty, Boer to mention a few. :pot:

Thank you to all it was a real great weekend until the next time  :thumleft:

So where was I:

After Swifty's crash, we all continued to the main dirt road again along the rest of the sandy two spoor road.  Everybody was reminded to take it a little easier after realising how quicikly things can go wrong.   This section of the main dirt road was so badly flooded for Kilometers on end, so much so that we took a little detour through bush, weaving amongst the mudpuddles, thorntrees and ruts.  This caused endless fun, and was way better than the slippy snotty stuff that used to be the road.

I pulled over to get a photo of one such sections, but cellphones takes crappy photos, period.

And have I mentioned how much I liked the Husky yet?  I am sounding like Grrrrr....

Next stop we meet up for a quick breather, and then high tail it again to Rooiberg.

At Rooiberg we stop at Koekepan.  Some of the guys head straight to the farm after the refuel, and some of us stay behind for a quick snack and long and cold beers.  Bliss.

Just couple of random shots.

And this is where my weekend went little wrong.

Redrider and Bender shoots ahead, and I follow.  I let them get some distance between us, because despite all the rain, there is quite a bit of dust kicked up and it's slowly but surely getting dark.

Cruising nicely at about 110km/h I have a front tyre blow out on a straight solid piece of dirt road.

I go down really hard to the right of the bike, and hit the ground solidly with a bodyslam.  I had no time to react whatsoever, no time for braking or accelarate, Nothing.

BAM!

Luckilly Smokes hits the brakes in time, and goes down and slides his bike lowside to prevent riding over me.  He stops so close that his rear tyre actually hits me on the back of the helmet.  Tx Smokes.   :thumleft:

Banged up and bike a little bit cockeyed, Smokes and Ploegie head off to the farm to get the trailer and back up vehicle.

Mark Hardy stays behind with me and we spend our time walking over to the river in flood.

My knee is properly busted and so is my right shoulder.

Because Franna got stuck in the river with the bakkie, we waited quite some time before they picked  us up.

By the time they get there, Mark Hardy has helped me to fit a new front tube.  But because the  brhandlebars are cockeyed, we load the husky on the trailer.

Overall damage:

Scew handlebars
Broken footrest bracket bolts
Broken brake lever toe piece
Some new scratches on the plastics
Missing Rear indicator.

And that was that.

So anybody who has had an off on a bike knows very well the stiffness is coming.

So I stay awake late and have plenty of brannewyn with Speswillie, Ploegie, Bud500 and smokes.

Because my bike stayed on the trailer at the farmhouse, I couldnt pitch my tent and I shared with Hanno for the night.

Despite the offs for the day, we all had great fun and an amazing evening in the bushveld with good friends and plenty of laughter.

Speswillie was on topform dismantling phones in split seconds so that we could not be tracked by who ever cares to track the Rebeldog pack.

We had to nail his glass down with his own knife for his own protection.

So while the rest of the guys go on the outride, I stay behind with Hanno, swifty and Master Beerkie.

I get to work on the Husky and not long with the help of Hanno's toolbox and Master Beerkie's assistance, i have the Husky running again.

I customize a bolt for a brake pedal, and not long and I am back on the bike hitting the sandy farm roads back to the camp.  I can feel that I am in dire need of this rest day, because my wrists, knee and shoulder is taking a beating.

I spend the rest of the day as camprat licking my wounds, and nursing my ego.

I also get chance to set up my tent, take a bush shower and visit the bush toilet.  It's a lovely warm day and all the wet gear gets hanged out to dry.

And as loyal Camprats, we stock the coolerboxes with ice for tonite.....

Might as well finish my last day.

Sunday morning we all get up, en die boere pak al vroeg hulle bikes.  The two KTM's (Haasdasenek en Taaibospan) is packed and ready to roll.  These guys are organized!   :thumleft:

Everybody sit arounds for a few minutes.  We all look like a bunch of kids sulking in the corner because we realise our weekend has come to an end.  En ons is babbelaas... (Mark Hardy being the leader  O0)

One by one the bikes starts to leave.

Some discussion takes place and it soons dawns on us that SpesWillie se dae is getel as "spes".  He has gone soft and wants to load his bike on the trailer as well.

That's me, Swifty, Annorexia and Bender's bikes that needs to be loaded on a three bike trailer.

Annorexia volunteers to ride back his broken bike, and I say waddefok hoekom nie? and its done.  I am riding back home.

So the camprats pack up the camp, load the bikes on the trailer and its not long and we hit the road.

The first 7kms of dirt to Thabazimbi is really washed out badly, and as I hit the first of 1001 potholes, I start regretting my decision.  My shoulder and knee is giving me hell, and slowing down makes it worse.  Speeding up makes me wonder if I can endure the pain of another fall.

Luckilly I dont, and after 7km's (felt like 70 though) we get glorious tar for my bruised body/ego.

Annorexia and myself soon find our rythm and we would gun it for 45min flat, and stop to take a break.  Every time we stop, we fix something else on our bikes.   :lol8:

At Beestekraal, we stop to say hello to MALGAT, and have a beer.

A wild animal almost pounces on us on arrival.

I also help Annorexia with his continous battle against weight loss, and we have couple of beers and a lekker burger.

After beers and burgers we once again hit the tar road to Brits, and over Harties.

At Harties I have an idea to end the weekend on a better note than finishing on tar.

And I take the Schurweberg road knowing that the Hennops will probably be in flood.  And it was.

I am quite happy about it too.

Might not look like much, but the current is quite strong.  Franna also walks ahead to check for washed out sections that could suprise us.

And Lastly, after few minutes, bike  back home.   :thumleft:
