Title: *Best bike insurance
Post by: alouette3 on May 09, 2014, 11:04:57 am
So I've just bought my first bike, a '06 F 650 GS Dakar, and she is a beauty!

Need to get her insured, but not a clue as to where to start looking. Any advise as to who offers the best deals on insurance? I'm thinking comprehensive is the way to go for sure. Though my one problem is going to be that I'm 24 and fit into that "irresponsible" category that insurance companies have >:(
Not sure if my "responsible" job and fact that with it I can't afford the consequences of being a reckless driver, will help in my favor at all?

Thanks in advance.

Alou

I know how you feel Alou, I am 23 and I got some ridiculous quotes. I got for my DR a good deal from Quicksure atleast, comprehensive  :thumleft:

Contact Allegro on the forum. I was under 25 when I bought my DR and the quotes was outrageous, he sorted me out quickly though.

Care to provide proof of how skelm they are?

Outsurance is very expensive on bike insurance compared to others (but that was on my profile), but it will depend on your profile regardless of who you insure with anyway.

Contact Operator, he will probably give you the best advise  :thumleft:

From my experience stay away from the big names, Outsurance, Auto&General etc. They all seem to give ridiculously high prices.
I'm with TuffStuff and I'm super happy with them, problem is that you can't only insure your bike with them.

Hollard, no ploblems when you claim, But to be honest BMW also has a good name but they also are very easy to write the bike off if you do drop it.

My 2 C is to keep away from the auto & gerenal / out insrance etc. I god way to test insurance is to ask your broker the claim process, as for example out Ins, will send it to who they want for repair, and in the case of a car I had it was I Lap and plak pannel shop and i wanted it to go to a better class of shop. I advise against going with  them.

go look at the latest "you" magazine and see what one man can make in a few short years with insurance.

be careful with some insurance. no cover if under 25 even if stated as regular rider, if bike over is 650. read the small print.  see other post regarding insurance. bunch of thieves.

and most only cover official roads, so the short cut across a field could cost you.  most if not all of the hippo companies are the same company.

been there and I paid towards that massive mansion, bigger than magabe's house.  same character.

watch engine size with vehicles as well, and area, and stated rider.  my insurance has none of that. I was 3 days away from a 4 year no claim bonus, I scratched my door and queried it and lost the bonus even though I never put in a claim.

stay away from the companies mentioned below.  this is no personal attack, I just was ripped off for far too long.

Use Compendium Insurance Brokers

Each to his own, I guess.. Phone around. Talk to the brokers.
Outsurance is insuring my bike with a value of around R105k for under R300pm. I have no other stuff insured with them, and when I had a claim a couple of years ago, they were brilliant. Your age would unfortunately count against you with them though.

Quicksure het my ook n goeie prys gegee op my Bmw HP4 en hulle cover trackdays asook as die fiets van jou trailer af neek.
Hulle gee ook n tracker saam

Ek het goeie pryse in die verlede van McCrystal ook gekry...

Went with Compendium. Best price by a long shot. Happy with their service, quick and efficient. Lets hope its stay like that if I ever have to claim, though hopefully that will never be required!

I spoke with Allegro, and he was of great help. Unfortunately he was unable to beat my other quote.
