Title: For Sale... BMW 1200 GSA & Rigged 4 Life Dualsport Sidecar
Post by: 2bfree on June 14, 2014, 06:25:38 pm
With much regret, for financial reasons I am selling my much sort after BMW 1200 GS Adventure fitted with a Rigged 4 Life dualsport sidecar. The price is R 165 000.

The bike had it's major 80 000 km service done last month by Lynn Schroeder BMW in George, is a 2009 model with full spec with a full set of brand new BMW panniers, ESA, ABS, tyre pressure monitors & heated grips and two new tyres, a new Anakee 3 fitted to the front and a reinforced Heidenau K60 Scout on the rear.

As the designer, test rider and creator of Rigged 4 Life sidecars these rigs are unfortunately no longer in production, so this full spec one of mine which is one month old will be the last one sold by myself... Made specifically for the BMW 1200 GS the rig is removable and with loosening just 4 bolts you can have your bike back to a solo. It takes just 2 spanners and 15 minutes to do this.

This bike and sidecar combo of mine is already licenced and registered as a motorcycle with sidecar with the traffic authorities.

There were are only 10 of these made in SA and this will be your last chance to own one of these awesome rigs!

First come first served

For all those fantastic people I have met on this forum and those that I have had the pleasure to meet and share my passion with for these sidecars I feel an explanation is needed and deserved for why I am no longer able and willing to produce these awesome rigs.

Quite simply... over the past 18 months I have spent spent all of my savings as well as an incredible amount of time and energy in developing the rig you now know as the Rigged 4 Life sidecar and which many are currently enjoying and riding around with today... the reality is though that to date I still have not been able to recover anything close to the time and money I invested from selling sidecars.

Over the past 18 months I tried as hard as I could to find a suitable 'home' for Rigged 4 Life sidecars with the correct suppliers and manufacturer with the hope of recovering a bit of what I had invested and to service the continuous requests I have from people wanting these rigs but unfortunately to no avail. I was continuously disappointed by greedy, dishonest and unreliable suppliers and manufacturers even to the point where one actually decided to copy my design and advertise these themselves on the web having never even ridden a sidecar rig before!

The guy that currently manufactures these sidecars in George does great work and at last I thought I had found the correct home for this product but unfortunately we had an agreement and he broke it... He was to be given the rig design and the brand I had built from nothing at no cost to himself other than the jigs to be made up and I was then to sell these sidecars on a sole agency basis on his behalf, this past month (May) I gave him 5 new orders and he decided then that he was not going to pay me the 15% commission I asked for giving him the rights to the design, blueprints, brand, suppliers list, website, marketing... everything.

One reaches the point where one wonders why one is doing this and for who? So many have benefited from my investment in time, money, ingenuity and energy... the various happy owners of these rigs, all the suppliers, these unscrupulous manufacturers... but myself... unfortunately, no.

Unfortunately my pocket and subsequently my health have taken a beating over the past year from all the stresses of my trying to find a home for Rigged 4 Life sidecars and eventually I just had to make the decision to remove myself from this business venture and my passion to avoid any further loss.

I apologize to all and sundry for not being able to stay the course, but my health, family and personal integrity here must unfortunately come first.

Happy travels and safe riding

Keith

Thanks man 2stroke.... please note though that the guys at BMW Lynn Schroeder in George have been wonderfully supportive and positive about what I was doing in building sidecars for the 1200 GS, so much so in fact that they even contacted me to come in for an all expenses paid drinks and snacks show and tell evening in their showrooms with all their club members present. They are more upset about how things have transpired than any other.

I've also heard some horror stories from other dealerships but certainly NOT these guys! :-)

Keith this is sad news man. After my purchase I really can only say it was nice to deal with somebody who had a passion for this to work.I can't believe the man who started this now has to sell his own cart to recover funds.Sad that when a good thing comes from one person somebody els comes and screw's it up.
Well mate all I can say is we have spoken a lot and my passion for this is far from over and I'm sure so is yours. When things are back to normal for you , I am sure you will start something again.

If you guys ever come to Jhb please let me know so we can meet for a drink.

Regards and all the best buddy.
Lew.

Welcome. Many of us aspired to own one of these cars and its sad that the manufacturing has stopped. Would be interesting to hear the accurate facts.

WD's love a good story.

No worries Vis Arende... your enthusiasm and passion for these rigs along with Lew and others that are still to receive theirs are what made this all worthwhile for me. It's a special thing to see others enjoying something so much that previously was just figment of my imagination and a dream. As mentioned Sarge really does do good work building these sidecars I designed.... so stick with him.

The reality is he is extremely exacting and fastidious about the quality of his work, which is sorely needed when building a sidecar for a bike as big and powerful as the BMW 1200 GS, unfortunately our fall out over an agreement we shook hands and agreed to was the 'icing on the cake' for me and the last of many disappointments I have had to deal with with suppliers over the past 18 months.

Perhaps, in time, Sylvia, Tau and myself will be up and riding again... Tentatively I already have my eye on a bullet proof BMW 1150 GSA, a bike that I had before and that may be a more affordable option for me in the future to build and attach a tough and rugged offroad cart to. This time it will be just for me and something I will build in my own garage without have to deal with the hassles of working with outside manufacturers.

Keep on riding Arende, no regrets from my side... you're a inspiration to us all!  :ricky:

On that note I am now going to lock this thread. Sarge has had a chance to reply and chose not to. I dont think further discussins will make a meaningful contribution to this board.

Keith may I suggest you post your sale on the For Sale board.
