Title: 690 'Tank bag' options?
Post by: Dwerg on July 10, 2014, 07:15:46 am
Hi guys. What tank bags are you guys using? I'm looking for something small that will just basically fit my wallet, cell, access cards and so on.

I am thinking something like the Wolfman enduro pocket

It's something that I've also been looking into. I wanted something that was short and won't restrict me on dirt roads, but can still take the stuff you need if your riding solo. I also went this route instead of a rack and tailbag on the back, because I don't think the 690 need anymore weight on the back!!

I decided on the Bags Connection enduro light. It's nice and short, fits easily and is excellent quality. It doesn't feel too intrusive, but I'm going to take it for a proper test on Saturday and see if I made the right choice. It takes 5 lt and can extend to 7 l if need be.

I think it's too big for what you're looking for, but just thought I'd share.  :thumleft:

Dwerg you must consider one of these handlebar mounted bags....I bought from a forum vendor and really impressed!! Much less obtrusive than a tankbag especially when standing and you dont even know its there! :thumleft:

A bit too big for my liking yes. Standing it probably won't be an issue but I'd still like to be able to get right to the front of the seat when sitting

That's definitely a good option but my problem is that I have a handlebar crossbar with my gps mounted on that in a lockable mount. Unless I can somehow fit my gps on the tower next to the roadbook holder or something, that one won't work

A smallish one is the Kappa,

It worked really well on the Xchallenge, It is the Kappa TK734.

On my 690 I have the GL Fandango, as I need more space than the Kappa kan provide.

My Kappa is not being used, and I might sell it if interested.

I think you have found the best solution - right here.  I would not go larger than that -  because of the 690 seat design anything larger than that will interfere with aggressive off-road riding.

The only other option is the wunderlich handlebar bag (I decided not to go this way - because my GPS on the handlebar)

I could not find something small enough and I ended up taking one of those small khaki ripstop tool bags about 15cm x 10cm x 4cm, made some holes and stuck some bungi cord through top and bottom.  Looks home made but works (R150)

Ek het ook een van die http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&vxp=mtr&item=380940289340 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&vxp=mtr&item=380940289340) bestel.

Wouldn't it be a hellova lot cheaper just to go into a chinese camera shop and buy small bag and the get someone to sew straps onto it? Straps and those little plastic buckles are available at most outdoor stores. I recon this is what I'm going to be doing  :thumleft:

Talking about bags, a mate of mine never had an easy access bag to put sweets and cash in during The Roof of Africa so the night before he popped into PnP and bought a canvas kids pencil bag, made 2 small holes in the back and cable tied it to his handlebar. Problem solved for R12.99, pooratech style  ;D I think it's still on his bar, almost a year later.
