I just fitted a set of Karoo 3's yesterday...
Not sure if i heard correctly, but Patty from Trac Mac said i'm lucky, last set they had and i think the supplier might be out of stock.

I paid R3780, fitted/ballanced...

Bmw qouted me R4200...

Tested the Karoo 3's today on some dirt roads, ran them @ 2.8 rear and 2.5 front.
Had a really really bad corrugated stretch almost shook my windscreen off, stopped, lowerd the screen all  the way and lowerd pressures to 2.0 front and back.  This made a huge improvement!!

Is it safe to run at these pressures on dirt? speed not exceeding 120 km/h and no pillion/luggage?

Tyre's also feeling good for short tar stint's to the next gravel.

Really impressed by the braking ability and confidence/feel...

3 of our group who did a 9000km trip earlier this year through 6 countries, ran the karoo 3's
The bulk of the trip was tar, and they all got back on the original tyres with a few km
to spare. Did very well in the "dirt" through western Tanzania

I rum 3 rear and 2.5 front in tar and dirt. Works for me.

PS: when off tar I always drop the screen.

Hi Honne

Are the above tyres still all that is  currently available for the LC? Does anyone have some further info on the progress of Mitas E07 for the LC?

Thanks in advance for the information.

Ive heard the Anakee wild rumors for over a year now, nothing to date in real life.

The only way to sort this is to get old rims on my LC, that way I can get stock of tyres.

Well, you can get TKC80, Karoo 3, Trail Attack 2 and Anakee 3. I think you should also be able to source some TKC70. What more does one really need? Yes, Mitas would have been very nice, but I am sure we can deal with what we have, right?

Has any one fitted the TKC 80's and shared some of their experiences with these tyres on the forum?

Tried "searching" the forum, but could not find anything specific on the TKC 80 for the LC BMW. (K50) (apologies if I missed it....)

I enquired about the Karoo 3 and the TKC80's, and funny enough, the new price on a Karoo 3 front tyre, which I was quoted, is almost just as much as a TKC80 rear tyre and more expensive that than the Karoo 3 rear tyre? (R2200 for the front vs. R1800 for the back??  :eek7:) Now, it could be, that it is the new price, as a few other places still have them available for R1300, but if that is what the new prices are going to be, would you fit the Karoo 3 or the TKC 80 when their prices are so close to one another, and you are due for a tyre change?

How does the KM's compare between these two?

Karoo 3 front has always been more expensive than the rear. Be thankful though, the rear does not last very long, I get max 5000km. The front on the other hand easily goes far beyond 10000km.

The TKC80 should offer similar or potentially slightly less mileage than the Karoo given past performance but I've never used them on the K50.

Hmmm that is not what I experienced. Just Bike Tyre in Centurion prices are R1739 for rear and R1399 for front. I just had a set fitted at BMW 2 days ago, R1399 for front and R1599 for rear.

Maybe a good price for good customers ?  Don't know

I guess that was for 110 & 150 and not the 120 & 170. The latter tends to cost closer to R4000 than R3000.

I agree, also saw that the pre-LC tyres (hence narrower) were cheaper, even though the wider set is now R2998.

Try Jelmic Motors in Sasolburg. Speak to Melinda at 016 9765924
They have a good stock and prices are worth taking a 25km detour off the N1 for.

Ciao!
