Title: The Suzuki DR/YZ 650
Post by: ZA on February 03, 2015, 07:15:59 pm
I can finally brag about my DR that I kitted out and farkled up

I know it looks semi like a Yamaha, but make no mistake it's a beasty DR650  :ricky:

Mods:
Polisport headlight
Acerbis 18L tank
TrTech footpegs
Two Brothers Slip on exhaust
Panels has been wrapped
PSP Bashplate
PSP case savers
Shorty levers
12v charging socket
Rim spoke covers
Foldable mirrors
Airtime gear lever
Yamaha 450 front fender
Zeta handguards
DRC manifold cover
K&N Air filter

So I made one or two modifications for power & acceleration.
Air box: Took the snorkel out
Carburetor: Main Jet 155
In the slider I drilled a extra hole and the stock needle's circlip I lifted to the top for better acceleration.
I haven't yet experimented with the air screw much, but I do need to screw it open a bit more and test. Any ideas is welcome  :thumleft:

Next step will be the suspension...and after a lot of reading and checking forums I am still not sure.  ???

 I have the KX for weekend dirt. DR only sees long trips and day to day work. The spoke covers I also got from Helderberg Yamaha  ;D

ZA, those spoke covers are way cool! Will sort the tedious task of cleaning chain lube off  those hard to reach rear spokes....
How much did a set cost?
How do they install and will they keep the moisture outso spoke does not corrode underneath the cover?
Sorry but i know nothing about them covers.... ???

I have a complete WR front end on mine which makes the bike a DWR 650  I think, trying to get a decent rear shock that fit's but seems that is a little more difficult. I widened and lengthened the foot pegs  about 15mm which works very well and shortened the gear lever 4.9 gal IMS tank, FCR 39 pumper carb, fat bars and a few other bit's and pieces, rode with a bunch of KTM's and a couple of Husky 610's this weekend and was not found wanting at all,,, just need a decent rear shock and to put the hydraulic clutch on.

That's cool  :thumleft:. Is the forks WP? I am keen on getting a WP setup, but I am also unsure about the rear.

I would also rather go for that option. I put progressive springs in my DR, but it was quite harsh and not much of an improvement. The shocks on my 690 is even less harsh than the progressive springs with much better feel once it is setup properly.

No, the forks are KYB, i have a full WP front end from a 300 as well but I'm a yami fan so went that way

It is a cheaper option to just change the springs I guess, but I mean WP  :drif: is I think also going to be better now that I have the larger Acerbis on. Any crappy excuse to put the WP on

That,s risky, if your doing a long tech ride take your stock lever with just in case, you don't realize how much pressure you put on a gear lerver
