Title: GSA LC Rear Tyre Choice
Post by: On The Move on March 28, 2015, 07:18:55 pm
My original rear tyre needs changing soon. Can anyone recommend a slightly ( just a bit) more dirt biased unit?

Pirelli Scorpion rally is a good alternative to the TKC 80, lot cheaper with reports of better milage. Just fitted on my bike, but only did the 8km home on tar so not in position to comment on performance.

I'm not sure, but I do know that the 2009 Dakar winner used them which might indicate  more off road orientated 60/40 or 70/30??

Thanks gents. Had the TKC on my 800 and was happy, but scared on the tar. Was hoping for slightly more road bias than that but less than the OEM. The Pirelli could be an option too I see

The Karoo 3 is a 70/30 road biased tyre with aggressive thread pattern making it a good compromise. Very affordable but not great mileage.

Please tell us more - where do you find TKC70, and for what price?

As far as I was aware we were not priviledged to get these in SA

I cannot complain about the Karoo 3 's off-road performance , except seriaas  mud maybe .... But it is quite noisy on tar and it wears quite fast on the long highway stretches .

I rode  down to Knysna from PTA and I could see the wear at each stop ..... It is now almost flat ...??

My 2c

Revzilla clearly states on their website that they do not ship tyres internationally. Do you have a way of getting them here? I would love a set as well please

I'm no expert, but if it is the same speed rating and size I don't think there will be any questions

That's the problem, the size differs. Therefore my question.

Karoo 3 is also R and T speed ratings.... and OE anakees on my bike was V rated so no diffs.

Size change is not and issue.

I would want BMW and the insurance company to make that statement before I risk it.

I have the same concerns as you ...... The E07 is a good 50/50 tyre with durability and I would like to fit them as well.
I have met n guy on the recent Sabie GS Challenge who fitted the 150 E07 ( old GS ) on the new LC  which takes a 170  at the Back .......?? He is happy with it .

Dave T's input was jacked up. They mention the Anakee Wild. Any updates from anyone please. So far I've decided to go Karoo 3.
