Title: What are the "must have" extras for a new LC?
Post by: Alpine Al on May 15, 2015, 03:17:06 pm
What are the "must have" extras/ farkies for a new LC?
PRACTICAL SAFETY, COMFORT AND PROTECTION ENHANCEMENTS FIRST ( I dont consider an after market exhaust, bar raisers etc. as worth anything).
Secondly what does one need to buy (and where) to be able to fit my trax panniers and top box?

Depends on intended application. My list:
Nav 5
Crash bars
Bash plate
Wide pegs
Headlight protector
Radiator protectors

If you need more:
Final drive cover
Tappet cover covers
Frame protectors
Clutch cover cover
Front mudguard extension
Upper crash bars

You will have to add the frames and mounts for your boxes.

Enjoy!

Thanks Stefan
Hope you are well.
Does one need a better screen or the extender? I will definately fit a "big foot" too.
I'm getting the std 1200, not the 1500 you joke about ;D  Main reason I got a GSA last time was suspension too low and soft but I have noticed that the LC suspension is much better.

I tend to agree with these essentials .....

When buying a bash plate go for SW Motech ... It has far better protection than the standard one.

I am also a big fan of proper Pod Covers .... Also SW Motech ...? It can save your trip ....

And on the Adventure I would recommend the Chrash Bar Supports by Touratech. I have personal knowledge of one Chrash where these would have prevented serious damage ......

O, Ja .... The side stand switch is a bit exposed ..... There is a nice little protection plate for it.

Here are some better pics of the SW Motech bash plate .

And then there is a nice optional extra to the bash plate which protects the front of the engine against stones thrown up by the front wheel.

All good thanks Al.
I have never changed a screen.  I go over the bars from time to time and big screens get in the way....
The big foot works but the rocks always remove mine prematurely.
LC suspension much better as you say - you will be happy.

About Cylinder covers - The only ones that work are Machineartmoto (MAMO).  All the others I have seen cause more damage than they prevent.

For safety, the original auxiliary lights, not spot lights.  These give a wide angle for traffic from the sides, but is expensive.

Please advise where you can get these and how much they are... They would definitely strengthen the crash bars significantly!

These bikes are heavy enough to put MORE scaffolding pipes and protectors on!

Ry net die blerrie ding, if you want to blow more dough then get a quick shifter and Akcro pipe. Then you're buying something that enhance yiur riding experience rather than protecting when you moer down

Thanks gents.
Makes one wonder why the insurance companies don't give preferential premiums on bikes fitted with maximum protection! On the other hand they probably know that the guys who pay good money to fit these things do so because they often push the limits.
Ok, looks like I will have to get some then!

It is like ATGATT ..... you spend money on things that you hope you never use ..... :eek7: :eek7:

I agree , you should not add unnecessary bling , ......but I have seen too much trips that ended because of a "small" spill and a rock pierces the Cylinder head , or a rock damaging an exhaust header.
