:thumleft:  Now this is a proper race/ride.  Who is AJ, do we have a SA boytjie entering?  This is definitely on my bucket list of still to do's.

If it's to race, Mark, best to make it the last item on your list ................  :o

Allan-Jon Venter.  This year will be his third year participating.  He will compete in the following classes:

-  Superbikes
-  Superbikes (Seniors)
-  Superstock 1000
-  Supersport
-  TT Lightweight

AJ holds an interesting "record".  The first rider (and only) ever to go elbow down on the TT course.

The lesser known ManxGP will take place end August on the Isle of Man.  It is similar to the TT, but more geared at amateur racers.  Colin Lehman from SA will race in both Superbike Classes and his wife Janice (Storm) will race in theLightweight Class.

AJ managed 3 practise laps yesterday.  2 on the 600 and one on the 1000.  All went well,  but apparently the weather sucks and it was bitterly cold.   Due to bad weather,  no timed laps have been allowed by the CoC and very little practise has been possible.

I follow this with avid big eyed admiration every year.
These ou's have tungsten ineys.
There is just no way I will ride a superbike through towns and so on........on normal roads at over 300km/ hour.

Would love to go and spectate though
But not this year :xxbah:
Apparently 65km/h winds rocked the spectator tents today

BTW - that elbow down is the story.
Scary shit.
Good luck AJ :thumleft:

Interesting times ahead..........

Seeing as Michael Dunlop has just announced his split from Milwaukee Yamaha for this year's Isle of Man TT and will switch to BMW in the Superbike and Senior TT races under the Buildbase BMW banner.

Just watched a video of Guy Martin at 200mph on the TT track.  The video scares me.  How do they do it?

Practise times:

Superbikes:

AJ Venter in 63rd place.
Hudson Kennaugh 68th pace.
(Keep in mind neither AJ, nor Hudson have superbike spec bikes and use their Superstock spec bikes in this class)

Superstock 1000:

AJ Venter 53rd place.
Hudson Kennaugh 60th place

Supersport:

AJ Venter in 54th place.

I think the top guys know every single piece and inch of the track so well is one.

The other thing is, this is probably the ultimate example of "Most sports require one ball, real sports require two". Those okes must have nerves of steel.

It must be close to the ultimate high, but eish, when it goes wrong........

Just had my first proper fix on my PVR.

It doesn't matter how many years you have followed and watched it, the on the bike camera shots are just so incredible.

I think my pulse even goes up.

Timed laps today.

Unfortunately Hudson Kennaugh did not qualify for Superbikes and Superstock 1000,  but did qualify for Supersport.   AJ. Venter qualified for all three classes.

EDIT:

Hudson Kennaugh qualified in the last qualification runs.

Michael Dunlop just said he doesn't believe Yamaha can give him a podium. At short notice he decided to rather race with BMW, as he just wants to win trophies.

2SD, I know this hurts, but THE MAN IS RIGHT!

AJ Venter finished 35th in today's Superbike Race. He also managed to reach one of his personal targets and managed a + 120mph average speed lap by doing one of the 6 laps at an average speed of 120.3mph. To give some perspective on this a achievement.

- He raced a Superstock bike as his team does not have a Superbike spec bike.
- His bike is a Honda Fireblade, now 4 years old.
- Today's race had 72 starters, 45 finishers.
- His IoM history is now 10 starts 10 finishes.

Hudson Kennaugh did not complete the race today.

Just saw AJ's race time was fast enough to earn him a Bronze Replica.

For those who don't understand, the TT results is similar to our own Comrades Marathon.

Podium and trophy:  1st three places.
Silver Replica:  All riders who finish with a percentage of the time of the winner.  The percentage slipped my mind now.   :eek7:
Bronze Replica:  All riders who finish with a percentage of the time of the winner. 107% of the winner's time.
Medal:  All finishers.

600 Supersport Race 1 and wow!   South African riders did us proud.

Hudson Kennaugh on his Triumph :  34
AJ Venter on his Honda: 35

Both earns themselves Bronze Replicas!

It mist have been and dice and a half between the two because,  after 4 laps,  252km, the difference was 3/10th of a second.   Average speed just over 115mph.

Winner was Ian Hutchinson on a Yamie.

Good question.
Suppose he is not allowed to partake in events like this? Risk of injury.

Hard to say, really - when both a high-side and a low-side will probably kill you - pushing the envelope like circuit riders do ain't such a good idea.

Would love to see him try, though  :thumleft:

Actually THE MAN IS HURT. Seems BMW rider aids not that great  :pot:

Michael is a good rider but I think it's shit style to drop his team at such short notice. He knew the R1 was brand new and undeveloped and he should have considered it when he signed up for them if he wanted a podium so bad.

Up to the late 70's the IOMTT was the British Round of MotoGP.   It was then taken off the calender as too dangerous.   Rossi himself indicated that he would not race a bike there as it is too dangerous.

Jawellnofine.   The new BMW and all's riders aids are crap,  since they could not protect Michael from being knocked off his bike by the flying bike of another rider that crashed.

Oh,  the man is not that hurt.   He finished 2nd,  crappy rider aids and all,  in today's Superstock 1000 race.

The Japanese cleaned up again this year.

Yeah, they did, as opposed to 2014 when they didn't.   Thing is, as we all know, there is no manufacturer who can really compete in the Superbike 1000 and 600 classes with the Japanese, especially in Irish Road racing.
