I'm fascinated by the 'little world'.  I dont explore it enough though.  Normally use one of those close to the eye jewelry magnifying glasses.  Think its about 10-12 x.

What is the best way to view this world?  Best way to capture it in pics.   Its fascinating.

She has a Canon 7D, 100mm Macro lens, F8 at 1/1250 and ISO 1000

thank you.
any particular reason for the high ISO?
Title: Re: Makro fotografie
Post by: frankmac on June 05, 2015, 08:07:19 am
The corresponding shutter speed would be too slow and if she reduced the aperture value, the macro lens would have an even shallower depth of field. She may need to even up the speed/iso to capture the wing movement

At least that's what I think ;D

Nemo keeps saying that I should check this thread!
I have a Nikon D3100 with an 18-55mm and a 55-200mm lens.
We bought a Sigma 70-300mm lens for distant shots of Nemo paragliding and Klippies surfing.
I hardly even take the Sigma lens off the body.
I am battling with shooting in manual mode, but I do change the ISO, aperture and shutter speed.

I just saw this little spider, and got distracted.
Quickly grabbed the camera and macro lens, but it would not sit still and pose for pictures and since we do not have many insects on Gough I did not want to harm the little guy - it is really really tiny, and although I did not had much change to do more calculated shots I am still amazed by the detail - the spider was no bigger than 3mm I'd guess!

I am currently working in the food store and decided to take the camera just in case I get to see another insect/spider of sort.
Then saw this little flower (also very tiny) and decided to give it a go - my most common mistake is to use to shallow dof in macro and it is so easy to rectify but still like the flower although this plant is also 'alien' to Gough and I will need to spray the area before the seed spread.
(Can't recall what a 'bossie' is in English  :imaposer: )

Dit is 'n baie mooi foto, maar ek haat muskiete meer as vlieë.  Daai een wat jou so uitgesuig het is heelwaarskynlik 'n vroutjie  :o

Why do male mosquitoes not feed on blood?
You've probably wondered why mosquitoes drink blood – can't they just leave us alone? In the world of mosquitoes, male and female mosquitoes look mostly the same, but males are strictly vegetarian. The reason why only female mosquitoes drink blood is so that they can nourish their child-bearing bodies

From Wikipedia:
Drosera capensis, commonly known as the Cape sundew,[1][2] is a small rosette-forming carnivorous species of perennial[3] sundew native to the Cape in South Africa. Because of its size, easy to grow nature, and the copious amounts of seed it produces, it has become one of the most common sundews in cultivation, and thus, one of the most frequently introduced and naturalised invasive Drosera species.

When insects are first trapped, the leaves roll lengthwise by thigmotropism toward the center. This aids digestion by bringing more digestive glands in contact with the prey. The plant leaf surrounds the prey within an hour while tentacles continue to move to further trap the prey. Digestion takes well over 6 hours after a prey's original ensnarement. The plant has a tendency to retain the dead leaves of previous seasons, and the main stem of the plant can become quite long and woody with time.

The plant captures their prey by luring it through the dazzling digestive secretions produced on the tentacles of the leaves. The secretion acts on the one hand as a visual signal, as it shines in the sun and shines through the red tentacle tip, on the other hand, it is also a chemical attractant that attracts insects.

Nice Solifugid, dw1

They belong to the class Arachnida and are  known variously as wind scorpions, sun spiders or even camel spiders
Title: Re: Makro fotografie
Post by: I&horse on January 07, 2021, 04:25:48 pm
This type of arachnid belongs to the group Solifugae, which is derived from Latin and means “fleeing from the sun”. The term “sun spider” refers to the fact that this insect is active during the daytime and escapes the heat of the day by running from shadow to shadow – often people’s shadows, giving the frightening impression that one is being chased! On the other hand, South Africans tend to refer to this critter as a “Red Roman”, or in Afrikaans, as a rooi roman, haarskeerder (“hair cutter”) or baardskeerder (“beard cutter”) because of its sizable jaws and the fact that it often cuts the hair of sleeping people and animals, using the hair to line its nest! It has even been reported that they have left bald patches on dogs, sheep and other animals.

Yes we know them as Red Romans.
This particular one is only about 25mm but I have seen them up to 55mm here.

I was lucky to have got that one out of the pool in time so he survived. Took about 45 mins in the sun to revive

.Enjoying the Fennel Pollen

I have been meaning to ask, ever since seeing all your photographs - what macro lens do you use (100mm or 200mm or longer?), as you have to be a certain distance away from the subjects, otherwise they would be disturbed.

Thanks for the info - I also have a Canon Powershot SX610HS, but have never used it in the way you do, as I have always used my Olympus E500 with interchangeable lenses for macro photos. But now I will have to try out the Canon for such purposes.

Thanks I managed to get all the info Re: Camera, shutter speed, focal length etc. from the EXIF data on your photos.

Having had the Canon dropped by the military security person at the Milan Cathedral in 2018 does not seem to have helped the focusing ability, as my photos do not seem to turn out as sharp as yours.
