Title: KTM 640 high fender conversion - advice please
Post by: Kobus Myburgh on August 13, 2015, 05:55:05 am
Morning Dogs,

Want to do a high fender conversion on the 640.

Which fender is used and what is used for lower fork protection?

Thanks

The generic SX fender and fork guards are usually used. If you have a dual disc brakes, you'd also have to redo the one brake line or convert to single disc

I used the 950se fender. It was also on some of the earlier 690's. The overall shape looks more modern. It also makes the bike muuuch faster.

Yes the SE fender will also work and looks the best out of the lot

I'll send some pics when I'm back home this weekend, but if you're in a hurry to buy the parts, here are some pics I downloaded of the SE fender when I changed mine.

I used a 950 SE fender on mine, you just have to add a couple of spacer washers where it bolts on to lower it by about 10 mm ... Take the double banjo bolt off the bottom, relocate it to the reservoir, & run a new brake pipe down to the disc... I had to fabricate an adaptor for my new fork protectors to sit where I wanted them, but there are a few options with this... very pleased with the results..

The reason why you need to lower it a few mm's is because there is a bracket to guide the speedo cable that fits in between the mudguard and the lower triple. Its just a little plastic part with four metal bushes. You will find that on the other fenders also, not specific to the 950se fender. You could just buy that with the fender.

After fitting the crash bars and taller screen I'm wondering if I still want to do the conversion?

Looking so lekka now!
