Title: DR650SE General Info

Can anyone, or Lecap, help with the following info:

1. Local supplier and costs for Safari, IMS and Clarke tanks
2. Sizes of front and rear bearings for the 2007/2008 model
3. Where can I find a workshop manual online for the bike
4. Explanation of the 4-5 things I should do to a new bike, steering head bearings, chain guide, replace plastics bolts with SS/allens etc

And any other tips people have about this bike.

I understand the newer models have a timing gear instead of a timing chain...?!?

Not sure if you can get any of the tanks locally. I imported my Clarke myself. The Clarke and the IMS cost you between R 2500 and R 3500 shipped and VAT paid depending on the exchange rate. Quite a bit more if airmailed. Ask Lucky Striker about cost of importing the Aqualine Safari.

Check & adjust steering head bearings. They often come too tight from the factory / assembly check.
Take off upper chain guide roller and throw it away. It is useless and will break soon anyway.
Get decent allen head bolts at least for the frame side covers. Prevents loss of cheap phillips screws & pricey side covers.
And any other tips people have about this bike.
Get decent hand guards. TheOEM ears are pretty useless.
Get bicycle riding pants. The seat is MX style.
Eventually get a set of rear wheel spokes as spares. Spokes tend to break (rare).

No! They all have a chain driven cam and a gear driven balancer shaft.

The boxer motor is an antiquated piece of kit best suited to propelling zepplins as they salute the F├╝hrer.

is there any profit in fitting an aftermarket cannister onto the DR?

any gains anywhere apart from decibels?

the stock looks a bit el cheapo and restrictive ...

the stocks are also damn heavy compared to aftermarkets!
but consider this: farmers and game rangers don't like loud bikes on their land
and also remember that the DR is not a performance bike so fitting a performance pipe is almost pointless.

that said, a better pipe gives a better sound. The stocks are very, very quiet and actually makes the bike sound sickly.

Have a PowerFlow on one of my DR's Tried to flog it off or swap for OEM for ages. It's just noisy.

If all goes well i should be getting my DR tomorrow.

I say if all goes well cos the dealer been a bit difficult to work with on this one , they obviously making too much money lately.

getting it with 18.6 litre IMS tank at 2550 ront
handgaurds (polisports ?)   R750
top box   +- 750 ront

Still to come as not available in ZA -- bash plate +- 80 dollars 
mini screen  +- 100 dollars

looking forward to this bike as my commuter and bush wacker wiht a long ride a couple of times a year.

Le cap , when removing the upper chain roller is the hole left behind just the thread or will water leak "into" the frame kinda thing?

cover hole with silicon?

The frame has drains.
Or use an allen set screw M8x as short as you can get and some thread lock. If the set screw does not fit flush shorten it.
Or use silicone.

Best IMHO is spraying a bit WD40 followed by anti rust wax to improve the internal corrosion protection of the frame.
