Title: Places NOT to go to on the Cape
Post by: the mad donkey on April 10, 2016, 06:36:04 pm
Stellenbosch - over populated, over priced, over polluted, the grape bushes are just covered in dust and look sad.
Franschoek - do the pass and get the fuk out of the town
Malmesbury - nothing left to look at. It has shopping centers
Ceres - go do the pass and avoid the town
Simonstown - pretty but a bit of a wank
Langebaan - so full you can't get to the sea
Paternoster - my petHATE - don't waste your money and DONT buy undersized crayfish from the drunken locals - you are just exacerbating the problem - it's dangerous and dirty and a rip off. If absolutely necessary go flash your boobs at tittiesbay and the leave.
Paarl - omg what a bore!!!
If you want wine and olives rather go to your local Spar

It is all about perceptions.....
I can tell you now for a fact that for most of the places on your list, that  I had amazing positive
experiences unlike your negative ones.
Sorry but your generalizations does not carry weight. ;)

Stellenbosch - visit Blaauwklippen market on a Sun and take the time (you probably will have no choice but to on your XR) and ride up to Jonkershoek and eat something at the tea garden after a hike up to the waterfall
Franschoek - have lunch at Solms Delta. While you are there visit the Music Museum and take a ride via the back roads to Paarl.
Malmesbury - Yeah, well in town nothing much. Plenty to see just outside and PLENTY of gravel roads to ride at your own pace
Ceres - Yes, do the pass. Also visit Op die Berg, Eselfontein and some of the other gems in the area Again, PLENTY of gravel to ride.
Simonstown - Live on the wilde side and visit all the little places. Also pop in at world of birds in Hout Bay, visit Cape Point, ride the coastal route to Kommetjie and have some fresh fish and chips. Its a great way to spend a day.
Langebaan - Go when in its not fully booked.
Paternoster - If you do a bit of research you will find a lot to do in and around the area
Paarl - Ride Paarl Rock and while you're out on your bike having fun make your way along back roads to Riebeeck Kasteel.

Life is what you make of it. ;)

I just don't want people to waste their time and money when there are so many other magical places to go to.
If you live in one of hose places then good for you
if you have had stunning experiences in those places then good for you.
But that's my opinion. And both the TO DO and the DONT GO THERE lists will increase as I wind my way around the Far cape.
I am a nature loving wilderness person. Flea markets and restaurants and the such o can do on any weekend.

This stuck-in-traffic problem stems from many "bikers", and this an personal observation, sitting behind cars in the line, like they were in cars themselves.

Stellenbosch traffic, although horrible at certain times, can never take you that amount of time to go through the town, not even in a car.

The question you should ask is this; "What am I, Mad ass, doing wrong?"

Because you seem to be doing things wrong everywhere. This wrongdoings is robbing you of seeing the good times. :ricky:

Stellenbosch - only criminals and liberals...

Franschoek - a gay town, with little to be gay about...

Langebaan - best RR place for people in Iraq... Go find a lonely wife

Paarl - upper Wellington.  Visit Dal Josephat on a Saturday... If you are more brave, play at Dal Josephat on any day.

Nothing wrong with the Cape.
Yes there is traffic because lots of people want to live and visit here.
Yes, if you go to the touristy places you will not find what you are looking for.
But there is no better place in SA then the Cape.
Just keep away from all the people and find the less travelled roads and the adventures and memories will come.
Riding a bike here is a joy and if you plan to keep away from all the people and touristy places you will find the gems and the true meaning of peace and happiness

So much pent up anger, why not take the road back to Jozzie. All the Vaalies spend days and many pages on the forum justifying why they live there, it works for you lot.
Do the Cape a favour .... STAY THE FUCK AWAY. Then we Kaapies can go to the beach/ go to dinner/ do the wine route/ travel the gravel roads, without being run  over by a Dakar wannabe in his Hilux or Parow Prado. We really don't give a fuck if you like the Cape or not. Stay in Jozzie and enjoy the fruits of your labour, your money, your BMW/ Mercedes, your toll roads, your traffic, your super shopping malls, your stock exchange and every other reason you can think of to justify living in that shit hole.

Bunch of winging tonsils!

RANT OVER!

mmmmmm.....this is a very interesting rant....considering the originator of this thread is from the Cape....just saying

The donkey is not always an ass, but sometimes rather blunt in making a point, which is assumed to be aggressive. An ass is some thing to admire (when it's a good one) and to put in its place (when it's not such a good one).

Read between the sheets (I mean lines) and you will probably find the truth some where. A cape dweller that doesn't only scream about how wonderful the cape is, but also screams for other reasons (like traffic, and perceptions, albeit the donkey's own).

"Want die donkey is n wonderlike ding".

Maybe a carrot would help he mood occasionally.

Stellenbosch - over populated, over priced, over polluted, the grape bushes are just covered in dust and look sad.

I live here and not as k@k as you think. I work in the infamous city of Belville and commute on the bike is 25min no matter the traffic, 40min in the cage. Within a 10min drive I can have world class wine at a variety of farms (cheap too if you know the area), I can jump on the mtb and 5min from my house I am on amazing singletrack and downhill trails, about an hour drive in any direction sees me rock climbing either on TM (brilliant climbing), Du Toitskloof, Kleinmond and when I just want to chill I can have an ice cold beer on the sidewalk at De Akker. Is maar 'n k@k plek die ja.

Twat stellenwanker. Don't over market a place that sucks. I go to Cape Town once or twice a week for business and I am always amazed at how "schway" people get over that rock! Wanna see pollution. Get raped, get robbed. Go to that rock!  Wanna see true mountains - go to the drakenaberg!

The Drakensberg is great and I know it well having grown up in it, but you underestimate the Cape Mountains. I have and do hike, climb and fly in and over many of, if not all of the cape mountains and believe me there are places here that can rival and even surpass the Drakensberg for remoteness and ruggedness. It is easy to have a quick look at a place and call is k@k if you don't really know it, much like many people say of small plaas dorpies.

Get raped, get robbed - If you make yourself a soft target this will happen anywhere. Many hikers get attacked on the Lesotho border in the Drakensberg, people just don't  take notice.
