Title: Roof of Africa Info - There is none!?
Post by: andrew5336 on August 18, 2016, 09:15:08 am
Sorry, I'm probably being dof.

I cannot find any info / official website apart from www.roof-of-africa.com (http://www.roof-of-africa.com) which is selling a t-shirt (that's it).

How does one find out about bronze vs silver vs gold, dates, entry fees, categories etc etc?

Surely an event as big as it is has something?

Not wanting to do it (yet) but it would be nice to find out more.

Dunno why that didn't come up.

Thanks.

Still no info on bikes, classes, gold vs silver vs bronze (at least expected difficulty, day distances times etc).

No worries.

Gold is for pro's (or as good as), silver is for very fit and talented riders, and bronze for the rest, but still tough. That covers the difficulty. If memory serves me right, then last year gold and silver were about 100km/day, and silver 160km/day. Silver was more or less like bronze, just much, much longer, and gold was much more technically difficult, hence the shorter distance.

If you're thinking of entering then silver is the only option and you have to be quick - gold is closed, bronze you had to qualify. But if you don't have the above info, then you probably shouldn't be entering anyway, unless you're from out of the country or something.

[I've only done a qualifier and not the event itself, so take it with a pinch of salt - I may be out on some of this - but it gives you the idea.]

Somebody on Wilddogs once described the difficulty levels as follows:

Bronze   afkak
Silver     afkaker
Gold       afkakste

Hope that will give you an idea :thumleft:

Bronze entries closed and only first 150 who did qualifier in May can enter. Gold opened early August and silver on 15th. Entrie fees just over R5000. A real test of mental and physical endurance with such a dynamic spirit. Awesome riding... rocks, rocks and more rocks and hills
