Title: End of the road...
Post by: BlueBull2007 on November 26, 2016, 08:26:48 pm
for my beloved WR 450.

Yes, its time for the Springbok era to come to an end. Given the state of the real Boks it probably a good thing too.  :o  >:(  :dousing:

I blew up the gearbox and damaged the piston barrel 5 days before the Amageza, rebuilt the entire engine with Runner, and got her to the start. It performed well for four and bit days, and then it blew its guts out about 30km out of Vioolsdrif on a liaison to the finish (they would not let me start the special - apparently I was too concussed). Oil all over the road, smoke and its toast.  :'(

Oh no, not again...

Its taken me this long to get over it and post this. No I have not opened it up yet, cant bring myself around to.

So here are my options:

1) Sell it vootstoets as-is with all the rally gear, racing suspension, tanks, kickass squadron LED headlight, two radiator fans, nav tower, fairings, fat bars, road book switches, ICO & ICO cap, rebuilt seat, wide pegs, spare levers, whats left of the spare engine the tootee for I suppose R25K and allow someone else to rebuild it into a new WR or put a new engine in it again, or

2) Brake it down and sell as many of the parts as I can at a discount. Give the fairing to someone who wants it in his bar.  :-\

I can't rebuild and sell it, I have exhausted this option and the wife will ignite into a fiery ball of wrath if I dare spend another cent on it. Its not an option, don't go there.

What do you guys think?  :-\ :-\ :'(

So many more memories that were not pictured.

Sorry for all the photos, I got a little nostalgic.

Some of the best moments.....with that machine.

Six years, four races two engines and lots of training in between.

Thx for sharing all these brilliant pics/memories!!!
This is a tough decision!!!
All I can say - I was in a similar predicament a few years ago, and went for the selling voetstoots option...

Sadly I still miss that bike - although I know it was financially for the better...
Selling it will be the only way to break the ''attachment'' ... And then take a conscious decision to never look back!!!
Life goes on ....

I have a soft spot for this bike, I think since you posted this picture:

That reminded me of army basics, us falling down in water but holding up our rifles at all costs. It looks like you had a choice between you drowning and the bike drowning, and did your best to opt for the former option.

Take off the instruments (I still have your backup ICO and Aurora RB bracket, by the way). Drain the fuel and park her in the bar. Best bar seat ever.
Take http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=55426.0 and publish it as a book. Seriously, it is brilliantly written. Where is the Amageza RR, by the way?

As much as I love the bike, I think it is time for something new.

At some point i'll do certainly aim to compete on bike thats meant for it.. this seems to be that bike if:

I buy it now voetstoots

Then could I :

Purchase a road legal and running WR and have a someone do the conversion to the new bike? (droomers yamaha)

Or take the life on the new WR and transplant it to this one?

So many questions, so little time :)

Yes. Its now properly registered in RSA, finally after arriving 4 yrs ago....I also got my learners about a month ago :thumleft: :imaposer: ::)

Its the JVO kit, a Spanish group who have been doing this for a quite few years now. In 2010/2011 it was the most popular and complete kit on the market.

If spending money to fix it is not an option then rather sell and start a new era with new memories with a new bike.
Your bike also features on the ICO Racing website http://www.icoracing.com/

Sjoe Neil - end of an era.  Guess all things are fleeting in the end. I'd say sell the bokkie, keep the memories. Knowing you, in time you'll come up with another concept to make some new memories!

The bokkie will live on in the Hall of Fame on this forum, so in some sense she's immortal...

It was a tough day Sunday to watch it being taken away by White Rhino.  :'( :'(

He also has a 2009 WR and I thought he was going to scavenge it for parts, but he told me he would look at rebuilding it again. We agreed that the design is unique and that it would be kept the same. So the Springbokkie will live on and perhaps even go racing again :thumleft:

I think it found a good home.  Thanks bud. :thumright:

Don't let that get you down too much... I was bikeless for 16 years, until got divorced. One ofthe first things I did was to get two wheels again... even though it was just a cheapie Chinese. Soon after that got stolen I got my 'Alp.

When I met my current wife I told her a little about me...

1. I ride a bike; don't try to change that.
2. I live on a plot; don't try to change that.
3. I drive a bakkie; don't try to change that.

Her first two question... "When can I start riding with you, and when can I get my own bike. She's a keeper

I must say I also had mixed emotions separating BB from his love last Sunday, knowing how much of Neil's life, time, money, blood, sweat and energy had been levelled at this bike. Not to mention all the intersting races and places this bike has been.

Better bike-up soon Niel.
There's lots of riding still to be done.
A question: If you buy another bike will it be a rally fitted one to enable you to still compete or will you hang up your Rally boots for now?
And will you stick to the lighter class ie 350 to 500 or try something bigger like KTM 690 or the Husky 701?

Swifty, it Looks like I will be moving to Zim, and maybe also working in the DRC. ::)

A lot will depend on the money situation. If things go swimmingly, then I would likely get a 450 WR or EXC for training/mucking about, and a brand new 450 RR.

But more likely I will get a 701 and use that for everything.

I found out today that I fractured a vertebra on the Amageza last year. ::) Was wondering why my back was a bit sore :imaposer:

I want to write about my rally, because my head was not in it at all and the results showed (writing will help me sort out what went wrong and why), but after following the Dakar again this year I got all keen again. So the way I am thinking now, I would love to do a couple more rallies, but I'm going on 45 and need to get fit, also remembering I'm no riding God and I'm not about to be breaking any records. I need to start thinking a little more about preserving life and limb, but I don't think that means my rally days are over.

Bit of a long winded answer I suppose, but that's where I am.

In my immediate future its a wall of work and no riding but the mine in Zim that we are looking at comes with a house on 24 acres with a MX track :thumleft:

One of the 17 bikes the previous owner left behind (because there was no more space on the trailer) is still there....its 2006 Wr 450 :laughing7: works for me!
Zim = fewer fences = serious offroad adventure!
