Title: GSA LC - Fuel Consumption
Post by: JB on February 06, 2017, 06:39:07 pm
I would like to know what is the GSA riders experience regarding average fuel consumption on the GSA LC, at decent touring speeds.

Have not done any long distance/touring with mine yet, the rides I have was locally and my throttle hand probably a bit on the heavy side…. ::)

Want to plan a lekker long distance tour and get more or less an idea of what to budget regarding fuel costs. Will be travelling light, solo, with top box and saddle bag.

I "tour"to work everyday :p

Here is my logs since new - take note the beginning (of 19/l-22l) was testing phases and riding it in. My best 22 was at slow riding, changing at 3k RPM and keeping it below or at 100km.

My current (about 17km/l) is riding it between 5-7k RPM and no speed limit  :peepwall: . The dip where it dropped below 17 was at about 1.5bar tyre pressures.

Average 17.5 km/l (5.7 l/100km) mixed.

16 km dirt, 20 km highway, 4 km city each day.

Another one (2 images show Km/L or L/100km). A bit heavy, but I commute every day without taking the highway.

Dankie vir al die insette .  :thumleft:

Lyk my so 17km/l redelik veilig om op te werk.....langpad teerpad.....en 16 vir meer gemengde omstandighede.

I have no figures really, but normally I get about 500 km on a tank. When touring Transkei recently, fully loaded with pillion and some nasty winds, this came down to about 380-420 maximum on a tank. And in some places I couldn't even ride faster than 100 in strong wind.

Weight makes a huge difference on the bike

Jy moet minder eet  :peepwall:

We can shit the science science the shit out of this, maar die gemiddeld hang rondom 17 km / l as jy beskaafd ry.

Waste mode ry jy? Ek ry meestal redelik gemaklik, en in Road mode op teerpad, op grondpad ry ek Enduro Pro. Karoo3 bande.

Done 3500 km on the bike now and the best Iv managed is 6.2L/100 or 16.13 km/l. Im hoping that this will get better once the motor is fully opened up.

Most of the riding has been on highway at between 120kph and 140kph, with a bit of off road as well.

Has anyone seen their economy increase as the engine mileage increases?

What i find is that your consumption is affected by who and how and when you fill up. I have a certain way of filling up to ensure i get the same tank % every time. if you dont fill the tank yourself you will get very different results between fill ups.

here is my record from owning the bike new. Once or twice (the dip and spikes) was when someone else filled my tank as tests buy my average is about 17.8 but got 17.7 from day one

My GSA is sitting with 1900 odd kms on it and has averaged at 5.1 ltrs per 100kms for that distance.

Mostly commuting in JHB traffic with 3 rides (about 1100kms with pillion worth) out in the country.

I am not a fast rider though and generally keep to the speed limits more or less.

Morning guys,

I am putting my Sertao on the market to sell, and wish to upgrade to an 800GS or 1200GS. Unfortunately I only use my bike for commuting purposes. Based on this, what are your recommendations on considering a 1200GS's fuel consumption. My ride starts in Fish Hoek and ends in the CBD. The majority of the ride is on the M3 and early morning with no traffic. The ride back is at 15:00 with traffic.

Is this a step too big for the use intended?

VAN76 its off topic for this thread so I would suggest starting a new thread.

But a short answer: I use mine for commuting around 30 kms each way in JHB traffic and love it.

Perhaps, but with slow riding saving generated by 21km/l rather than 18km/l, I can pay for four track days a year and there I will kick your arse purple and blue with a tinge of yellow.   >:D

Is the LC more fuel efficient than the AC?

I have a 2010 1200 GS and my average currently is about 13.60km/l. Two up and an average of 150 to 160km/h. With the exception of a 200km/h here and there.
Title: Re: GSA LC - Fuel Consumption

I think it is slightly more efficient. I recently did a round trip to CT and back from Gauteng, through the Swartberg and Northern Cape with a mate of mine. I was on my old 2011 aircooled which I owned for about 2 months and he was on his 2014 water cooled. At every fill up and although we were riding together at the same speeds he constantly put between 1 and 3 liters less fuel than i did. Over a trip (+/- 3600kms) like that it makes a bit of a difference.
I think my 2017 is now lighter than his 2014 but have not done a trip like that on it yet to compare.

200km/h here and there wow! I definitely ride much slower than you do.

I reckon the LC is slightly better economically than the AC, but then again, I have never tried either at those speeds.

Apologies....I'm talking k@k....I get 5.4 l/100km = 18.5.

Also...on my previous GSA, the K25, I never saw figures like this. The LC is def. lighter on juice. The LC motor breathes better with the inlet ports being center to the valve train and not on the side as on the older motors.
