Title: DR650SE IMS 4.9 gallon tank
Post by: IceCreamMan on August 02, 2008, 12:10:40 pm
Anyone know what the reserve is for this tank?

Fitted one on my bike today ...what a blerie lekker thing it is ...gives the bike a bit of bulk and adds protection to the oil cooler in a spill...

excellent farkle for a DR..

instructions dont mention the reserve size, nor does the website funny enough

Pics as requested.

4.9 gallon is just shy of 19 litres which is a 6 litre (45%) increase over the standard tank. I anticiapte a range of about 400km's with this which will be perfect in africa.

Cost of the tank was 2500 ront give or take a couple of cents. comes with petrol tap and all the bits an pieces needed to install it...does not come with a lil plastic cap to cap off the vacuum though ...but will get one ,prolly less than a rand or so.

Money well spent an gives the bike a bit of bulk ..an i am tall so bulk is a lil good.

An update on this....this past weekend was the first oppurtunity i have had of going onto reserve etc.

The tank size while indicated at 4.9  US gallons (18.6 litres) actually took 19.6 litres and was bone dry. The bike did cut out but i pulled the bike up on the side stand to allow the petrol from the right had side to get to the fuel cock. This gave me another +- 15 km's.

REserve is hit with about 3.5 litres left.

the DR when at steam on the open road is a lil thirsty ...+- 17.5 km's to the litre but that was at full taps. When cruising its just over 20 to the litre.

On a 900 km ride it used no oil though.

:thefinger:

With Funacide's birthday run - before we set off, someone (I think it was Plottie) asked if I had topped up the oil and checked the fuel.  this is not funny.  :patch:

i liked the aqualine as well ...  the bike shop kind of threw in the tank with the deal so i cant complain too much about it.

the IMS is just shy of 20 litres, at sedate speeds that is 400km's ... when and if i get my african trip off the ground i think i will be ok

The IMS is an IMS.
Available either via the SA distributor. You should be able to order from most bike shops.
Might be easier and similarily priced to order online from Justgastanks.com or directly from IMS.) 19 litres.

The one on LuckyStrikers bike is an Aqualine Safari. Also available from Justgastanks and I think also directly from Aqualine in Oz. 30 odd litres.

The one on my bike is a Clarke. Also (as you might have guessed) available from Justgastanks and as well from our always helpful and friendly forum supplier Topbox. 16 litres.

Clarke and IMS will set you back an estimated R 3000 - R 3500 at current exchange rates. For the Aqualine you probably look at R5K

Is die 650 se standard tank groter as die 400 se tank? En... as hy groter is, sal die standard 650 se tank pas op 'n DRZ400E?

Zombie ???

He's a newbie :mwink:

I have no idea about the size of the DRZ's tank.
The OEM DR650SE tank holds 13l.
Also no idea if the DR650SE tank can be fitted onto the DRZ. Don't think so.

Yeah and then you can just superglue the shrouds to the 650 tank
