I am proudly old school......noisy mechanical engines, huge induction, massive revs, more massive slides, sneaky competing.....and a hell of a lot of red mist in between :thumleft:
The sound of silence in racing - not for me !

MotoE bikes were shown to the media yesterday. Also some more info. There will be 18 on the grid, all made by the same manufacturer initially. There will be 5 10 lap races, all in Europe coinciding with the normal MotoGP program.
The noise? Some who watched the first few bikes test, were very excited. Due to the lack of engine noise, for the first time they realised these bikes make their tyres screech! Apparently all sorts of new noises. Brakes. Chains. I am not convinced yet, but it is the way the world is going and maybe in a few years 2SD can argue that Hitachi just makes better bikes than Bosch en klaar!

From good old Castrol R to this, not convinced but time stands still for no one :-\

Eina :(

I saw a YouTube video of Loris Capirossi riding one these bikes on the track ... I'd rather watch paint dry
-
A nice break after the horrible sound of clattering poppet valves.
This has the potential of making MX racing so much cheaper?

Agreed. Until a awesome battle between two or three riders develop. :ricky:

We all thought MotoGP would die when they took away the 500cc 2T's... the same will happen here.

Yep!
Also this does not replace any other class, but ads a race to the day.

What are poppet valves ?

What!! ....... Your grandad never told you?

It is the in-and exhaust valves found in the cylinderhead of all 4stroke engines.

No but I did read about a motor where you mix oil and fuel on a piece of papyrus

This must be the Reed valve 2strokes. :imaposer:

That is going to really mess with the riders, Surely they listen to where the competition are while riding.
Or it might just make Marquez more dangerous

Especially since there is no engine braking! :lol8:

there isnt?
I always thought that when you get off the power it will start slowing you down?

Of course when you get off the power you will start slowing down. How fast depends on the compression made by the engine. Electrical motor, no compression, no engine braking.
-
Unless it's used to recharge the battery ........... then you could even adjust engine breaking.

Of course when you get off the power you will start slowing down. How fast depends on the compression made by the engine. Electrical motor, no compression, no engine braking.
The moment you close that "throttle", the electric motor turns into a generator/alternator, and will provide some "compression" braking.

I stand corrected. I can only report what I was told by AJ Venter who raced an electric bike on the Isle of Man. Let me rephrase. The electric motor will not provide the same level of engine braking, expected from a internal combustion engine with a compression ratio of 10 times or more.

It could even be adjustable for every corner on every track as well as for IOM, with no corners.
You could even reverse the polarity incrementally for different breaking strengths, including an engine lock.
But, you are correct, it will not be the same .................. it will be better.

All possible in the future. Not on these bikes at this stage.

An engine lock is old news, I have had a few RD engines lock up on me. :eek7: :pot:

I love the smell of petrol and oil in the morning

You're slipping ......... but luckily you posted that in the racing section, where we understand such things ........................
