Title: 690 Enduro Instrument cluster faulty
Post by: Jayson Hill on March 12, 2018, 10:37:09 am
Hi Chaps

My cluster is on the blink, in fact only the speedo, the numbers are at times very faint almost as though they are not receiving enough battery power. Battery is fine and connections are also good. Its booked in at KTM to have this looked at, any suggestions in the interim at all?

Thanks in advance
Jayson

My 2013 was doing thing lots of lines not working and sometimes flashing so I stripped it down and I was amazed at the amount of dust that had gotten inside there the pc boards were covered in fine light colored dust (I blame the Tankwa)  gave it a gentle blow with the compressor and cleaned it as best I could with an earbud put it back together and hey presto works 100 percent now

I've gone through two clusters now, the first one was replaced under warranty. Now I'm just living with out it and use my GPS as a speedo. At least the warning lights are working and my ABS is permanently off, which is better. only thing is its hard to remember when to service the bike - its get serviced more often now :D

Thanks Chaps, i think i will give it a good clean 1st

Everything works, just the speedo, some digits not displaying correctly......similar to that on a calculator when the battery is about to die.

this video is a little wierd but I used it and it worked for me just one thing my cover that has the tachometer numbers on was glued on so be very careful when you remove it that you dont damage the LCD

Hi Chaps

I took the cluster apart last night, real pain in the behind job, gave it a good clean and it seems perfect now, will take it for a blast later to see if speedo is ticking over as it should.

Thank you again for the advice!

Hi Chaps

Just to confirm cluster is now perfect after a ride this morning, seems dirt getting in there was the issue.

Thanks again for the help.

That's a nice fix - but what's the cause?
If 'dust' then it requires better closing, otherwise it'll come back and do it again.
Anyone knows where it leaks, at the housing's split or elsewhere?

Great video, mine gave problems and after opening the unit I found some pins broke of. Took it to a computer shop who soldered them back on and all is good.
