Please would any of you be able to give some advice on the park... which camps are the best? Best time to go? Camping vs Accommodated? etc etc...

Hey FC, we went up in July this year for the first time so I can assist.

Best camp is generally Nossob from a game viewing point of view. We camped, it was cold, as in 4 degrees but we were well  prepared. On the way up we spent 1 night in Twee Rivieren in a Self Catering unit, then 5 nights camping at Nossob in their Luxury camping area (private camp site with own kitchen and ablution facility) and another night in Twee Rivieren in a self catering on the way out.
Winter is good time from a lack of creepy crawly point of view, summer is brutally hot. I'd guess April & Oct as just about perfect if school holidays aren't an issue.

If I go again I won't camp, the self catering units are very nice, although somewhat pricey. You camp in sand, it's the desert after all. I'll spend 1 night in Twee Rivieren going in, 2 nights in Nossob, 2 nights in Mata Mata and 2 nights in Twee Rivieren on the way out. I was bored shitless after 2 days there, game viewing doesn't float my boat much, all I see is biltong on legs  ::)

I've been twice recently - wife does wild life photography; the corrugated roads make you wish for a dirt bike. Check on 4x4 community forum though. Some good reports eg.http://wildetye.co.za/trip/weskus2018

I would not stay more than 2 nights at any of the camps and agree that Nossob, maybe Mata Mata are better than Twee Rivieren. Smaller camps, Bitterpan etc are even better. Plenty driving, plenty dust but beautiful Kalahari scenery. Can be cold at night, particularly if tenting.

Nossob and Mata Mata the 2 camps we stayed in. Both beautiful. Stayed in chalets in both camps which is pricey but well-equipped. June/July is a good time to go.
