Title: 640 suspension

There are so many adjustments possible...I don't know where to start.

I think the bike may be set up for the previous owner which probably weighs a good 15-20 kg more than me.

The front end feels fine. It just about glides over any sized bump. The rear however....it feels bouncy or kicks back hard over bumps. Any tips. I weigh around 78kg.

To me that would mean you need to turn up the rebound damping but:

A) I don't know what adjustments the 640 has available and
B) I don't know what I'm talking about.

Sub. My 990 has been "stuck" on factory default suspension settings for ever. Curious to know if I can improve matters.

Why do you think the factory set the lot that way hmm, all that effort down the drain?
Don't touch it!
It's fine.
Live with it even if it isn't!







PS: ever given it a thought why bikes come with adjustable suspension?

Start by just checking the preload.  Standard, dimension A, should be 23.5mm for a 75kg rider.

That bit is simplest: RTFM!
In it it will state the default/factory settings, and this you revert to.... hence work from there, not from some custom setting.
You turn the whole lot to 'factory' in one foul sweep.
Also, if you can set the rideheight (sag) then do this also. (Edited: this is what Kobus indicates above but there's more!  :thumleft:)

Then you start to figure out your own settings - that is if anything/something needs improving.
One (that's 1 !) change at the time either front of back will steer you 'better' or 'worse', and some logic should steer you here.... but better still, you will learn from doing this!
If you cock it up (and I have done this a few times too I'll admit here) then revert back to 'factory' and start over again.
Oh, keep written notes of what you did & what was the result - and yes, I know you're over 12 already... do it, it helps you!

No, but this is the only way to and learn and do it yourself!
Have fun, but don't expect 'purrfect' in half an hour  ;)

Aha, RTFM. The manual has factory settings for my approximate weight. I'll start there.
