Title: AT rear shock
Post by: Komin on June 06, 2019, 02:43:28 pm
I posted this in the tech section but maybe I'll get quicker advise here.

I need some advice on my AT.  The VIN shows it is a RD07 1998 but the engine is recorded as RD04.  However this should not be relevant.

Beginning of Dec I had the rear shock serviced for R 3,700.

About 3 months later I was doing easy dirt roads 2 up when it felt as if the shock collapsed.  I took it back and a "relatively" new 2nd hand spring was fitted.

It was fine up until about 2 weeks ago.  Now the rear end feels unstable.  It is especially difficult when I turn right as it feels as if the rear wants to break away.

Any advise taking into account I know nothing about suspension settings save from what I can find on the interweb and the manual?

Guy here at work fitted a XR500 rear shock, goes straight in and also bumps the rear up a bit so looks pretty cool.... Have been on rides with him and the shock is more than adequate even with two up  :thumleft:

If you want I can give you his number as he fitted it himself

what sort of riding/mileage between the new spring and the bike feeling funny 2 weeks ago?  Any oil leaking evident? Also if it feels different going right or left I would start off be checking all suspension bearings, particularly the swingarm.
