Title: Yamaha brings back the RD250 colours!!
Post by: Altie7deLaan on November 11, 2019, 07:57:46 am
Hier is een vir jou Dan, ek weet nie of die Suid Afrika ook na toe kom nie?

"The classic colours will be available on the XSR700 and XSR900 Sport Heritage models

Yamaha has a rich racing heritage in both Grand Prixs as well as production-based championships. One of its most popular production bikes to go racing was the legendary RD250LC, and the brand is now paying tribute to the old two-stroke. It has done this by giving its sport heritage models some classic liveries that hark back to the iconic LC

The models in question are the XSR700 and XSR900, which have both received a lovely white and red retro livery for 2020. The front mudguard and top section of the tank are finished in red while the sides of the tank are white. Black stripes run along the boundary between the two colours, and the gold wheels are a nice touch.

In addition to the red and white scheme, Yamaha has also given the XSR900 a black colour option with gold stripes. This goes exceptionally well with the gold wheels, and the old-school branding and logos on both liveries complete the look.

The XSR900 is based on the MT-09 platform and uses the same 847cc inline-triple motor, while the XSR700 is powered by a 689cc parallel-twin. Both engines employ crossplane crankshafts, which give them distinctive exhaust notes. Unfortunately, neither of the XSR models are sold in India, which is a pity."

I had a cb750f back in the day, I really hated the RD`s back then.
Now, I would not mind to own one.
I see there is a company in the UK called Velocity Moto, they sell a "RD" kit also based on the XSR900.

Was the RD350LC not the iconic one?  Only in SA I suppose.

Yamaha is taking a leaf from the BMW marketing handbook.  Not selling enough bikes?  Paint it like an icon from days gone by and sell away!

You are many years late, the RD250/350 LC were painted after the iconic TZ's. 8) 8)

Cagiva Mito, fastest smoker with 7 gears..... gone, thanks to the almost-complete ban on 2T's!  :xxbah:

I rode my 300TPI this weekend at the coast, and the a-ma-zing grunt this tractor has is really something unheard of. Also, the transition to "on the pipe" is linear albeit still quickish, but not the brute 'hit' it was years ago.
Oh, and the bugger is Euro4 - for a smoker, take that Mr. Honda!
Pity that the big brands stopped developing this engine, it still is the best there is  :thumleft:

Yamaha has fabulous 2stroke outboard motors too, and they can easily build a tpi 350 2stroke twin, fitted into a modern chassis. This thing will be the dog's bollocks.

With a little motor from a washing machine.   :thumleft:

My first "big" bike was a 1976 Yamaha RD250 in this colour scheme.  Even today, after having had many bikes of different shapes and sizes,  this is still the one I remember most fondly.  1976, already self cancelling flickers and 6 gears.

TheBear, I also had the blue 250, 1976 C model.  Fitted 350LC pies, and RZ125 pistons.

Whoooaaaaaa!  I am drooling here.  What did you say your address and alarm codes are?

Beautiful!

Tell me more about those 350LC pies?  Pepper steak, or steak and kidney?   >:D

Mine was stock standard.  I was planning on a serious two into one expansion box pipe, but then a 500 Honda came along at a great price.  I got that instead and that was a mistake.

No wonder these LC's were so popular in Britain. :imaposer:

It would have been a nice touch if Yamaha made the tailpiece and sidecovers to be same partnumbers as the old LC's, to help the restoration guys.

But I guess not.
