Title: Wishlist and For sale Thread

I still long for a classic slim Bird and Trout knife. Ivory for non slip.

Another one on the wishlist. @Chantal Burger dis jou skuld.  Groot folder cleaver/chopper.  Kitchen camp work.  Min 4 inch blade.  Chantal, i picture one issue with your AC Tomahawk.  The blade folder lever on the bottom will interfere with chopping work when using the knife as a chef knife ...  its will not allow proper contact with the food when hinge chopping things or even straight down chinese style chopping?  Rest is spot on.  Any recommendations?

This is what Hardy uses. The Kizer Sheepdog XL. The finger choil at the bottom of the blade leaves enough space / leverage, I know he has two (I am stirring now)

Hein
You will struggle to find a big cleaver blade folder that does not have a flipper tab that interferes.
Cleaver blades is generally heavy and a normal thumb stud or blade hole (like Spyderco)  opening does not give enough leverage & momentum to flip the blade out.
I found a guy that will make you a bird & trout knife with Bohler N690 steel and Ivory.
Will post some of his knives here

Okes are moaning about the quality online.  So im still searching.

In my mind a chopper must he able to chop on a flat service.  A slight rocking action is fine. The edge dont have to be completely straight, but close.  The hilt must leave space so your fingers doesnt block the action when chopping in a hinge action.  Thats how I view it in any case?

I do take orders for custom work on fixed blades....chat to me if you're interested. :3some:

For factory folders you will not easily beat Martin Nel (The Knifeguy)....he can normally source whatever you need if he doesn't have it on his site.

So, am looking to buy my laaitie an EDC knife.  He studies graphic design and fotography.  I knife is always handy.  Ek also commutes to class using public transport and are often in strange places on photography assignments.

Criteria - less than R1000. Straight blade. Multi purpose design. Folder. Light. Medium size

Narrowed it down to the two below, but happy to discuss other options..

Both D2 steel.  Thoughts on this?

The guy on youtube channel "Outpost 76" has done extensive edge retention testing on production knives. Performance on D2 blades showed huge differences in performance between different suppliers. Must be very sensitive to heat treat I guess.
Most D2 knives incl the Cut Jack were outperformed by supposedly "softer" steels that are easier to sharpen and have much better corrosion resistance.
These included a couple of models from Ruike in 14c28 and knives in Aus-8 from Cold Steel and Ontario. The ontario Rat was one of the few D2 models that performed well.

Good choice, Ross. Sharpens very well and I even have a KBAR pr of pliers.

Not for sale but mine has been with me since '81.

Never used in anger but slaughtered a few goats and the odd bit of game for the pot.

Lost my edc crkt. Have always like the spyderco knives.

Any decent spyderco folders looking for a new home. Not too small. So many models available not really sure what to look for. I just like plain and functional?

I've just finished making this Damascus knife. 60 layers consisting of 1070 and 75ni8. Both are high carbon steels, 75ni8 being similar to15n20, but with a higher nickel content which gives a nice contrast against the 1070. Handle is fallow deer antler with brass bolster and pommel. Overall length is 250mm, and the blade is 126mm. Hand made leather sheath.

The Damascus is hand forged, no power hammer or hydraulic press, just an old fashioned hammer and anvil. Price: R3000.

Iím advertizing a couple of tactical folders. They were bought between 2005 and 2008. These have never been carried, never sharpened, never cut anything. Most actually have the original sales slip in the box - not the Cold Steel. Iím not overly motivated to sell, but they live in a safe, which is sort of dumb. I enjoy my old fashioned Opinels and Mams much more. And just because its advertised does not automatically mean Iíll actually sell it,

I'm not really convinced that this is the right place, but I'm looking for a knife making belt grinder.  I thought about importing a chassis and then DIY it further, but unusual stuff is tricky to get in Upington. So, I'm considering something like this:

 https://vormac.co.za/compact-grinder/

So, what have you available?  My number one requirement is availability of belts. Must be single phase.

I'm not really looking at the Ryobi/Adendorffs 25mm belt and disc jobs or 1x 30 and 2 x 42 upright machines.

Also look at what KMTS  and Herbst offer. Both in Pretoria. All belts, spares and accesories available.

I've made the agonising decision to sell my beloved KTM 300. If I do, I've decided I'm going to upgrade my belt grinder, which will mean my existing one will be up up for sale. Let me know if you're interested.

So onto Buck knives again. I would live to have this knife https://www.buckknives.com/product/898-impact-knife-2021-legacy-collection/0898CFSLE1-B/ . Not into Auto knives but because its a Legacy edition and I think its pretty cool.

No way average joe can have one of these. You need service credentials.

Have a look at HelloPeter -  their reviews are pathetic.

Noted.
They do ask you to check stock availability. Yes this should be their job and should have it updated on their system. It is a PITA but I have managed once or twice with them.

Gents,  I'm selling 2x knives out of my ""collection"",  both strange cats, not your everyday blades thats for sure...

First is a Jagdkommando triblade.
Price is *sold*.

Second is a Victorinox Swiss Champ -  but with the original pouch as well as the 'survival accessories'.  In original box with original pamphlets.  This knife came into my possession in the early 1990's,  and been in my safe basically ever since.
Price is R1500.

Looks like I'm having difficulty posting photos  - but I'll get that sorted as quick as I can and update post with pics.

Humble apologies, life happened and I was burying friends and a pet the last few days.

Pic's as promised of the Jagdkommando..  Going to be honest, I am not 100% sure of the manufacturer on the Jagdkommando- thus selling what I paid for it a few years ago.

My anvilís hardy hole is 1 inch/25mm. I spent an entire afternoon moering a piece of torsion bar into submission in order to make a mandrel to drift a hole into a cleaverís handle. Anybody here got some Hardyís thatís surplus? Iíll post it the general for sale as well, just not sure how much explaining will be required
Title: Re: Wishlist and For sale Thread
Post by: Rossdog on August 04, 2021, 12:30:05 pm
That torsion bar is good steel. If you're not fussy though, next time weld a piece of re-bar into a small section of square tubing that fits into you square hardy hole, and shape it as required. Re-bar is a little harder that normal round bar reinforcing. The advantage is it will take you only 20 min to make the hardy tool, and it is cheap, so can simply just make another one when you need to.

Peter, Looks like a M 1884/98 III and from the ricasso markings the "G" appears to be a date of manufacture being 1935.
The allied forces probably purchased plenty during the pre-war era.

SCABBARD markings front 7541 over d and the back has S 238

Ricasso markings: S 238 G and 7541 over f

I really want a Ontartio Cerberus Folder but cannot source one in SA and I am done importing for the year, it's just too costly with import duty.  :(

https://www.knifecenter.com/item/ON1776/ontario-cerberus-folding-knife-d2-satin-plain-blade-gray-titanium-handles

This thing is apparently solid and a true tool at an extremely competitive price.
