Title: Malgat in the daisies
Post by: Oppad on August 28, 2006, 10:05:30 am
Forum members Scribble, Masehare and Nicky and I met up during the weekend's Mouton v Zyl trip. On Sunday Scribble, Masehare and yours truly took a duck from the madding crowd (110 bikes including a Vespa!) and found ourselves in a canola field near De Hoop (between Bredasdorp and Elim). In the background on the pic Scribble (left) and Masehare are playing shark and surfer in die sea of blommetjies while I am desperately fleeing the scene. A full report will follow later.

We did the 'adventorous' route back via gravel to Bonnievale , and had some fun with 2 water crossings. The one we could cross, but the other one was knee deep, so we crossed along a nearby railway line. Two bikes did cross, but the one guy apparently had an oil pressure light come on on his GS650 afterwards. I'll post some piccies later in the week.

Nooit maats. First of all we're suspected of batting for the sensitive side (this while Scribble and Masehare's delightful wives joined them on the trip - who do you think took the pic?) and now of tripping it up with the Tarzan twak. With stuff at work and the Oppad site that's lagging behind I'm not getting to the trip report, but here's a pic just to show that we're actually history buffs: The scooters in front of the shipwreck museum in Bredasdorp.

The route on Saturday was supposed to include the pontoon at Malgas. This is what's left after the river came down:

The pontoon if off to the right on the river bank. A local told us he saw at least two complete jetty's floating down the river.

Still haven't got around to doing a proper report for the forum but if you can follow Afrikaans (pics are in English), most of it is at:

http://www.oppad.co.za/joernaal/aug06/bl260806.htm

including crosslinks to a bit of history on the pontoon, gps coordinates and video clips of the pontoon in operation about a month ago.
