Title: My Old Bike Touring Days - pics attached
Post by: petri oosthuizen on June 08, 2020, 11:49:01 am
Dunno if anyone would be interested - I've found some old adv bike pics of trips I did when I was younger, this was between 1989 and 1996, thereabouts.

One of my favourite bikes was my R80G/S.........took it on several Lesotho trips, down to Agulhas one year (from Bethlehem, mostly gravel).........I cant even remember all the places I've been to with her

Here she is. Did some mods back then - drop handles, delivery bike screen, that sort of stuff to make life easier in the saddle.

I'm sure there are several similar Threads, shout if you Guys need some more in this Thread

Also had this DR 750, did a couple lesotho trips with it, will try find those pics too.

Somehow not my best bike - dunno why, I just dont have good memories of it, not like in the Boxers and my TT600 and XT500.

After selling the 80, I got this 100 PD from Bruce Meyers from Bavarian, I think it was a 1991 model. VERY nice bike, super comfy. BUT........must say, the 80 GS was somehow just "smoother" to ride. Still, this PD was the bike I spent the most time with,
Had this nice cubby hole, I also bought the single seat setup later, that was VERY comfy on my solo trips.
Hepco and Becker boxes, and tank bag.
Did numerous trips with it.......Zim twice, Namibia, a couple coast to Cape trips, and a whole bunch of Lesotho trips.
Bike was rigged for this, I remember I even attached a spare clutch cable to the existing one, this came in VERY handy one year when the thing snapped near Kariba at sunset.

Not sure where this pic was taken, maybe Eastern Transvaal or even Zim.......??

Shot no probs Guys, bly julle enjoy die ou foudies.

Wil weer so beginne trippies doen, maar "old school" of BAIE spartan........nes soos in die ou dae.

Amsterdam, I actually still have that leather "top box", had it restored and oiled a year ago, and that will DEFINITELY go with me again if ever I get to go adventure riding again. That bag is actually the source of my inspiration.......to be honest. Luckily, it can NOT talk.................. :o :snorting: :imaposer:

Aai Petri hoe knop kry ek nou in my keel toe ek al hierdie ou fotos sien. :thumleft:

:thumleft:

Dis nou adventure biking!!!

Apology for quality of old photos.  Yamaha XT500F way back in 1982...  Before the days when it was called "adventure riding".  For me & the wife it was just "touring".  Went everywhere on that bike.  Never should have sold it.  Still, our GS800 nowadays does the same!
