Title: Tyres for Rally Racing ?
Post by: SparkMark on June 16, 2020, 02:54:30 pm
Hey all,

Can anyone provide some good feedback regarding tyres for Rally Racing (Kalahari Rally).

I used the michelin deserts with BIB mouses for 2019. They are super strong and last quite well, but are now somewhat pricey.

Was looking at the Bridgestone E50's.

I also noticed that quite a few guys weren't running deserts in this years dakar.

Thanks
Mark

Not sure of the prices on E12-Rallystar, but a nice tyre.

Sadly me thinks you pay for what you get. We are testing out some new tires in the desert and if any good ill let you know.

So have done some more research on this ... looks like Mitas E12 / E13 Rally Star might be a viable alternative.

Some guys are using MT21's as well.

Pirelli MT21 is not really rally tires, its recreational tires with a catchy name.  Used up a rear in less that 1 Amageza stage.

My go-to for rally is Pirelli XC mid-hard tyres.  Expensive, but rears used to last about 2000 km in Amageza.  Never punctured a rear, had a cut in a front from a cut-off fence pole in Botswana once.

If you run mousses in front, you could run any MX tyre in combo with a rear XC mid-hard.
