Title: Gauteng - Plastic Bike Ride
Post by: Adventure MX on November 20, 2008, 10:41:35 pm
OK, so over the last couple of months I see a number of WD's have purchased plastic bikes.  I also know that quite a few WD's have had them for a long time.  I think it's time to make use of them.

My suggestion is we get together on the 1st weekend of every month and have a ride in De Wildt.  It will be like a standing arrangement, if you have plans then no worries, then just join us on the next one.  We can use this thread like the Friday Drinks thread to make sure whether the guys will be going out or not.

The reason for the 1st weekend is: :deal:
1.  You should have been paid by then so no excuse about money.
2.  The missus does the groceries shopping while you stay out of the way.
3.  You have worked hard the last month so give yourself a day off and enjoy your well spent cash!

So who's in............... :mwink:

My bike's got some plastic parts?  ???

As does mine, and some metal parts to protect the plastic parts.  And knobblies.  And a spare pint of oil in the tail pack.  And a FKN good rider on top  ;D

Pistol, update your signature then.
None of those are plastic. The 625 and 1200 are heavy metal , maybe lead, I swear.
Vespa is lovely pressed steel.

The ride could be tailored to the experience level there, no hassle.
People could just ride faster on the easier routes to make it challenging.

Sorry, don't mean to hijack, but any KZN dogs, or even Gauteng dogs who feel like a drive down to KZN this weekend, come do the Dirtfest at Baynesfield.

The course is brilliant, rode it last weekend. Incorporates some sections of the WFO course held here.

Lets finish off this year with a lekker ride in De Wildt.  Nothing to hectic.  About a 70km loop comprising one or two technical riverbeds.  All obstacles have escape routes for the less adventurous.  We will make our way to the 3 fences shop and back again.

We can park at a mate of mines factory in Ga-Rankuwa.  It is very close to the trail which makes it nice as we don't waste time getting started on the good riding.

How about Sunday the 30th November?

I know it is the Roof next weekend but I will not be able to make it the weekend of the 7 December.  Family commitments!

Now that sounds like a great idea   :thumleft:!! You can definitely count me in!! So is it gonna be this coming weekend or the next one ?

Sunday 30th

We meet at a factory in Garankuwa - safe secure parking
It's roughly halfway inbetween Morula and the police station - so the ideal location to get into the good stuff quickly

We always meet at 07:00 there - any later in summer is suicide
Should be back at the factory by 13:30 - with a large group it will take a bit longer

You need cash to buy extra fuel (if required) and some drinks at the stop known as Menlyn

The parking is a private venue so PM AMX for a map - this is a special concession by the owner

The ride is definitely on!

Please see link below for the private parking.  The GPS waypoint is called Rossatex.  For those that don't know where it is we can meet at the toll gate on the N4 platinum highway.  If you want to meet at the toll gate then make sure you are there by 6:30am.

http://www.adventuremx.co.za/GPS.htm

Guys, don't worry about killer technical stuff.  I am also not into breaking my bike.  It will be a good all rounder ride with a bit of everything.  If you get tired I will help you with escape routes.  Not to worry!

Ja - cannot wait
Nervous as well

Tell me Shark  - we discussed a WD team
Do we have to belong to a "club" ???
Looks like the only option is the EW club ??
Title: Re: Gauteng - Plastic Bike Ride
Post by: shark_za on January 22, 2009, 09:04:44 pm
Yes, a club registered with MSA.
I belong to South Coast Motorsports Club in Natal.  SCMSC.
Up in JHB its Enduroworld or MSA's own MS2000.

This year they changed the numbering again, club numbers are now prefixed with a C and not N=northern, K=KZN, W=WC ,etc.
They are confident there will be less that 1000 club riders.

Also the seniors, yes I'm a toppie! ;) no longer have reserved number range and can have any number between 20 and 999 given to you.

I'm getting an Enduro number, not offroads. So I'll be E xxx , whatever.

Yep, EW Club Member No86, medical done and MSA license application submitted, just waiting for my number. Think I will try Novice B, could go Seniors due to my advanced age but I think some Pro will bliksem me if I keep getting in his way.

So Plottie, are you joining us?
Title: Re: Gauteng - Plastic Bike Ride
Post by: shark_za on January 23, 2009, 09:38:04 pm
Because I am riding seniors this year, the advantage is you do the same route as club but get to start most races earlier, less bottlenecks and dust.

I'll get a regional enduro seniors license and still ride the Novice A in the EWXC rides. Because the EW races are maximum club level events you can ride in any class you want with any of the licenses.
In the Natal WFO series is where the earlier start will help a lot.

We had a good ride on Sunday (8th March 09).  Plottie, Plathond, Sean and Myself.

Plottie even extended his search for soil on this ride................

Looks like the dates I choose seem to be difficult for most people.

When are we going to do the next WD ride?

I am riding De Wildt tomorrow with a friend, and we want to ride at a quickish pace.  Depending on time we might put in a little distance as well.  If there are any WD's in the mood for a ride like this, let me know.

Contact details in signature!

We are riding Kwa Machlangu tomorrow.  If anyone is interested contact me and I will give you the details.
The ride is quite technical at times and definitely provides a good challange.  We won't be racing the trail as we are going to explore other routes if time allows.

My forks are off, sprockets all off, head and barrel off waiting for new piston, eish.
About 2 days works and my bike is ridable again.  Would love to do this one.

I am thinking of putting together a beginners plastic ride around Maraisburg for this coming weekend, riding on Saturday 13 June 2009.
The reason for the "beginners" is that I am very rusty, and have not been on the plastic bike for a long time. I am starting to like the 950 far too much. Thinking of selling the plastic, but probably not worth it.

AdventureMX, I am planning to "advertise" this ride on the planning a ride thread as well, just to reach a wider audience, if that is okay with you?

No Problem!

I started this thread in the hope to keep the planning on the plastic bike rides open.

In other words, this would be the 1st place to look to see if any rides are planned.

Sorry all. No plastics ride for me this weekend.  :( I just saw a whole lot of oil under the bike, and it seems that a gasket has gone. Any chance that this happened during the last major service, just 1 ride ago, or will it be something that I did, and therefore must pay for?  :'(

That will be good on the finger and hard on the body.
Sounds brilliant.
Lets do it.

Doing a little "technical" DS ride early tomorrow morning with MajorTom - he isn't spending enough time on the DRZ, and needs to be reminded of how good it is >:D

I am however keen on a long De Wildt plastic ride - any plans?

Saw in latest EnduroWorld that KTM is offering some demo rides on their enduro bikes at Sambok this weekend (Sat and sun) and next, and that could be fun. Think I will go sunday morning test drive some oranges to see if they are lemons, or better than my lime.  Anyone else interested?

Not a ride report, but just a quick note to thank the Guys and Twiggy (one of the guys) who joined the Maraisburg ride. It was a goodie, and nice and challenging. Tried my best, but could not shake off Twiggy. She just hangs in there, and is riding like a champ!

I would like to get a Plastic ride in for next weekend (20th Sept) at De Wildt.  I would like to do an intermediate to experienced ride.
We meet at the Factory in Ga Rankuwa around 7am to start riding at 7:30am.  If there is any of you who would like to join, let me know.

We will be doing rocks and rocks
Wet river beds
1 or two mud holes
maybe 3 fences
and maybe one or two other sections.

AMX, next weekend is EWXC#4, so I can't make it, but I am dead keen on a long technical De Wildt ride - you can't move it to some time the following weekend, given that it is a long weekend?
