Title: Wanted : Dr650 side covers
Post by: 1armbandit on August 30, 2020, 07:53:55 pm
Got a mate looking for DR650 side plastics.
Any one got some to sell?
Is OEM only other option?

Any advise would be appreciated

Same boat... right side cover and chain guard. I've even tapped into the ad rider forum in Australia... nothing found yet... if I do find some perhaps we can do one shipment to SA... then get it to where it needs to go... but I will let know if I find anything

Maybe get a mold made from a cover with fibreglass is an option?

it wont be in my budget to buy and ship it here, but i thought that perhaps you guys would wanted to have a look???

oh and ive also came across a Djebel 250 in a bike shop and i had a look ihow far off its plastics would be .. and it is bloddy close.. about 25mm short by the back of the seat but if i cant find a stock plastic im going to pull a fibre glass mould of that plastic and make myself a cover... or if i can find a Djebel 250 cover i will fit it.
just throwing some ideas around.

Track and Tar in PE should still have some DR 250 Djebel parts.

Barton Strydom is the owner.

Doubt if any will fit the DR 650.

I'm busy with a DR 350, which is closer to the DR 650 than the Djebel, with it's aluminium subframe.

I compared dimensions of some Djebel parts for the 350. The huge headlights fits the DR 350s front fork with a small mod.

Besides the front fender, nothing else fits.

The RH side cover could work with modifications to attachment points.

The LH Djebel side cover incorporates the airbox cover and wont work.

Barton has a DR 200 for parts too.

I have owned four DR 650s, four DR 200s, one DRZ 400, a DR 250 Djebel and finally the unicorn, a DR 350 SE.

Out of curiosity, what did the covers cost at the agents?

Can't remember the exact amount, but around R 1 100-00.

I'm busy with a '99 DR 350. Parts even more scarce than the DR 650's.

I'm only to grateful if I can find parts at the dealer, regardless (a limit of course) of the cost.

Suzuki parts have become expensive. Those side panels for the DR 650 use to be half the price.

Might be worth buying now as mine look like shite and would like to replace them if I sold the bike.

Good idea. I also bought them to be a spare set.

Geez that is steep!! I wonder if they were printable and if they'd last as a 3d printed item

3d printing is not that cheap too my knowledge even with cheap materials it will work out more expensive.
next best option is fiberglass molding. or carbon molding. custom allu plates
like this guy did. https://motoridersuniverse.com/mb1213881 (https://motoridersuniverse.com/mb1213881)

I'm no expert on 3D printing.

I'm sure the designing cost will not make if feasible.

Kamanya made carbon fibre side covers for the 990 at some time. You can follow up with him.

Blazes did a lot of Husky stuff. He commented that the development cost is not worth it.

Wrapping your current side covers in vinyl will be an affordable option.
