Title: 6.2 Magnitude Quake In Cape Town
Post by: Blikkies1 on September 26, 2020, 08:54:05 pm
Bliksem, my house just rumbled hecticly, apparently a 6.2mag quake 10km off the coast, ran outside to check if it was Koeberg or Sasol, didn't hear a double percussion so figured it was a quake but still moer scary.

Quite strange to hear that only Capies felt it when considering its origin shown on the map, surely the whole southern cape should have experienced it, surely us on the west cost are in an indirect sheltered path, maybe it has to to with terraforma consistency  i.e. we're on solid rock the same as the fault line but maybe there's a sandy cushion between POI and the southern +'eastern coast.

I built a concatenated microwave circuit between Worcester and Touwsrivies for the BVM municipality in about 2008, it was for domain recovery services, the old school IT manager ballie at BVM at the time was a studious fella and said that he needed microwave as a fault line exists between the two locations and that it could cause a break in a terrestrial fiber or copper lines when it would be most needed, I was happy to take his money at the time but have since wondered about the authenticity of the risk when driving through. The equipment I installed has long since been smashed by falling ice from the top of the towers with no budget to replace it and they rent a fiber line to CT across the grater fault line. Anyone going surfing tomorrow?

What was the range of a boat dumping ordinance in those days when we were burying nuclear arsenal in the northern cape? https://foreignpolicy.com/2019/09/22/blast-from-the-past-vela-satellite-israel-nuclear-double-flash-1979-ptbt-south-atlantic-south-africa/

Any geologists care to explain why Koeberg would purposefully be built on a fault line?
