Title: Joined the 701 Family - Advice needed
Post by: Drover on February 14, 2021, 08:19:59 pm
I finally bought a 701 and have done some research on all the farkles to be added and mods to be done. Bought a demo model with a few power parts fitted from the factory. (Will post more pics)

First purchase was the RG under seat tank to be fitted soon.

I need some advice on the following from the experienced dogs please:

1. Rumbux or T2G rear crash bars or any other suggestions? I want to use my Giantloop Great Basin saddle bag with the rack to protect the plastics.
2. Looking to fit a screen or rally tower, I like the look of the tower but will most likely never have the need to fit a road book.
What rally style screen options would you recommend?
3. I read a lot of posts regarding the clutch slave cylinder issues, is this still and issue on the 2020 models.
4. What must I do in terms of fuel filters to prevent fuel pump failures?

I will have a lot more questions as I go along but these mods will keep me busy for a while.

Thank you for your advice!

Hey man ... welcome to the wonderful world of all things 701

To answer your questions:

1. Rumbux or T2G rear crash bars or any other suggestions? I want to use my Giantloop Great Basin saddle bag with the rack to protect the plastics.

I really like the Rumbux. Really well made and are capable to taking a beating. You can have Flying brick make you up a set of dedicated luggage for them as well.
Really works well, it just velcro's on and off.

2. Looking to fit a screen or rally tower, I like the look of the tower but will most likely never have the need to fit a road book.

Quite a few options here. @deapsquatter used the MST fairing, and still has it for sale I think. Looks nice and does a good job of providing wind protection
Then you can get the omega kit for the full rally look (which I have)
Then there is also a kit from Rade Garage and RebelX.

I think that the MST is the best value for money IMO if you just want a screen

3. I read a lot of posts regarding the clutch slave cylinder issues, is this still and issue on the 2020 models.

Not sure actually but Eddy2Race would have replaced the o-ring anyways, when you bought the bike.

4. What must I do in terms of fuel filters to prevent fuel pump failures?

Just change it every 5000km's is all.

You can search #701_mods on insta ... did a little writeup of all the mods I do.

best bike out there,
Rade tower is your best bet and add the extra front tank from them and air filter.dont know if you can buy from him direct?
Bite the bullet and get an oberon slave, you can get it from them online.yes you can change the seal on the original bla bla bla.
at one time you could get the husky mapped but as far as I know not any more.
Wings exhaust
MPR fork savers, they are noeprene socks that cover the legs,no dust and crap to worry about.

I bought toys2go racks,we couldnt even make them for the price they asked excluding materials

If your in CT Have a chat to Martin at MPR on how to get rid of the 4cs forks

Do you find these to be better than the 4cs forks? If so how much better and why?

Yes they are better ... the 4cs internals were just rubbish. Really small damper rod, which means very little oil displacement, which means very little damping.

They have gone back to the larger damper rod and changed some of the valving. However you still have one leg for compression and one leg for damping.

But ... I know E2R has developed / is developing an upgrade for the explor forks to remove the dummy valve and replace with a shim stack .... and the cost won't break the bank.

I haven't tried it yet, but hopefully will get to test it out soon on the 501. I will certainly keep you posted ... but do reach out to E2R (Liam).

I think the indicators are from the Husky Power Parts catalogue, got them with the bike from the dealer

Shortened the stand today and made the plate a bit bigger and added a bracket to help move the stand better, seems to be working better now. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210724/d944fb283543d8ff637c81b0ddaaef1c.jpg)
