Yes thank you, the bike appears to be in good condition.
I took the side panels and seat off today to clean thoroughly everywhere and then saw that the air filter is quite dirty, so I ordered air and oil filter and will do an oil change tomorrow when the parts arrive from Gauteng.

Have you ordered from Honda??
I still need to have a good look at mine this weekend. The one thing that appears to be an anomaly is the spark plug. Seems to be a special plug and from what i've googled its not so easy to get to without the Honda sparkplug spanner....not sure.

Yes, I ordered OEM from our local Honda dealer.
They do not keep a lot of stock, so they place the order with the supplier in Gauteng (before 12 o'clock) and the requested parts are couriered here by the next day.
Oil filter, air filter, gasket, sump crush washer came to R940.00
Oil I will get at Autozone or Makro tomorrow
I am not going to replace the spark plug now, as the bike only has 5680km on the odo

I read that it is an Iridium spark plug - NGK: SIMR8A9 so yes, it will be expensive but it should last much longer than a normal spark plug (the manual states it must be replaced at the 48000km service)   :thumleft:

Congrats, only thing I did not like on my Rally. You have to buy a new filter each service. I washable foam jobbie like on the DRZ would have been much better.

Yes, I noticed the filter is pre-oiled so it is not possible to blow the dust out with a bit of air.  :lol8:
It is also quite pricy at R670.00 but I will change it whenever necessary to keep the engine breathing easily.

I fitted the OEM filter today and it did feel slightly sticky when touched so I perused the service manual

The service manual states the following:

AIR CLEANER
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
ē The viscous paper element cannot be cleaned because the element contains a dust adhesive.

Did you remove the metal screen from the filter?

Does anyone here know where I can get hold of an electronic copy of the service manual.

I've  previously only owned single cylinder air cooled bikes with carbs so the liquid cooled/fuel injected/digital display with temp, engine light is all new to me.....seems I have a bit to learn about the crf.

No I did not.
Was I supposed to??
The metal screen was still attached to the old filter, so I installed the new filter with the screen.

I finally had a chance to change the oil and oil filter
The oil drain bolt was super tight against the crush washer (this is proof again as to why I prefer to do services myself)
I drained the old oil through a fine filter and luckily there were no metal bits present in the oil

Nice one I'm following. Love those bikes. Had a KLX250 but got serious envy after I rode a CRF250L afterwards  ::) The CRF pulled much better but it was Runners bike after all  I see the strap also left a tan mark on your seat, my Rally did exactly the same.

Yes, the tan mark is very noticeable, but that strap was exactly where I place my butt which made it very uncomfortable for me  :lol8:

Geez man, you guys get good consumption.  I get around 28km/l - 31km/l.  Saying that, I am mostly loaded with luggage, so, never really tested it without as we do not commute with them.

Happy miles and smiles, you will enjoy the little 250.   :deal:

Weird they have a gasket there instead of the normal big O-ring like all other bikes? Will have to check what the 250 Tornado has there when I service it.

I purchased a new crush washer, oil filter cover gasket, oil filter and air filter at the same time
Several owners re-use the gasket and crush washer but I was not sure of the condition of these items so I decided to replace with new
The old gasket appears to be in very good condition so I am sure it can be used more than once.
The crush washer however was deformed quite badly and I even struggled to remove it from the oil drain bolt (the previous owner or service tech at the dealer tightened it a bit too much)
At least now I know that everything I have fitted, is OEM and new

Yes, I am very happy with this purchase....I looked around for a long time and viewed some horrible bikes before I found this one.
Yes the consumption is a big bonus but it might change slightly after I start riding the bike in more technical terrain.

Yes, it is a flat gasket and it is not made out of paper material (it seems to be made out of thin metal)

Knobbly tyres will happen as soon as the current tyres are done. I felt today, whilst riding on some gravel roads, that the current tyres are pretty useless when it comes to grip. I barely touch the rear brake and the rear tyre just slides on the gravel.
I will keep the OEM exhaust as I suffer from Tinnitus and my ears cannot deal with loud pipes.

Filled up with fuel before my ride today and the consumption of the previous tank was 34km/l
I switched from 95 to 93 Octane the previous time to see whether I could notice a difference in performance or fuel consumption but everything feels the same so I might as well stick with 93 Octane (the owners' manual states 87 Octane or higher)

Did a nice 90km loop today.
Also my 1st puncture on the bike.
When I wanted to put the bike in the garage this afternoon, I noticed the rear was flat.
Rotated the wheel and saw what looks like a nail or piece of steel embedded in the tyre.

The wifey and I got our vaccines on Wednesday, so I did not have time to fix the puncture
Yesterday morning I decided it was time to see whether I could remove the rear tyre all by myself  :lol8:
I decided to only use the tools that I always carry with me on the bike when I go out riding alone
It took me about 30min to remove the rear tyre (I know, I know...way too long  :imaposer:) but I am sure next time will be faster
I am actually glad the bike got a flat because when I removed the axle it hardly had any grease on it
The nail really caused quite a big hole in the tube so I decided to patch it at a later stage and to keep it as a back-up
The post-vaccine symptoms then started to arrive (slight fever, body aches and a headache) so I decided to take the rear wheel to the bike shop in order to have a new tube fitted. Also stopped at the boating shop and bought some waterproof marine grease for the axle. So, now I at least know I can remove a tyre but I still need to see whether I can fit the tube and tyre back on the rim all by myself  :patch:

Flip, that's excellent.     :deal: :thumleft:

We also went on a 314km ride today.  The fuel gages on both my rally and the wife's L indicates 2 bars left.  I need to fill up later this week, I think we eventually got reasonable consumption.   :patch:

I have owned the CRF250L for a month now and have clocked up just over 1000 very enjoyable kms on it
Wherever I read up on these bikes (Adv Rider, Thumper Talk, CRFS Only, WD) everyone suggest changing the OEM countershaft sprocket to a 13-tooth sprocket.
I decided not to do this as, to me, the bike was going fine on- and off-road and the fuel consumption was great
The guy I bought the bike from was the 2nd owner and he informed me that he never changed anything on the bike and as far as he knows, everything was standard when he purchased the bike from the original owner.

Fast Forward to today:
This morning I decided to remove the cover of the countershaft sprocket in order to clean behind the cover as I could see that it was dirty. I also wanted to see whether there was any wear on the teeth of the countershaft sprocket.

Low and behold.....behind the cover was a 13-tooth sprocket staring right back at me  :lol8:

Note to self ........ never believe anything a seller tells you. Open up and look for yourself  :deal:

I am very impressed by the consumption you are getting I don't get close to that . Have you checked to see if you odo is accurate . Before I get hammered the reason I am asking is you have a 13t on the front and that affects both teh speedo and the odo .

I took the GPS with me on the bike this morning to see whether there is a difference between the odo and GPS distance
I stopped to check after travelling 19km (odo) and the GPS indicated 17.9km
I arrived at my destination after travelling 38km (odo) and the GPS distance was 35.6km
The distance this morning was on a zig-zag route through parts of the city and outer lying suburbs.
I will do another longer distance test this weekend on a straighter road outside the city boundaries.

So, from this quick test and as a result of the 13-tooth front sprocket, the odo roughly overreads by about 1km for every 19km of travel  :eek7:

I much prefer living at the coast but bushveld living has some advantages.
People from other parts of the country travel to the Kruger National Park or other game reserves to look at wild animals.
I just get on the bike, go for a ride and within 30km of home I get to see plenty types of antelope, ostriches, warthogs and sometimes (like today), I get to experience this .....

Filled up yesterday again and according to Fuelly, this was my best consumption up to date.
37.1km/l
This happened on a round, mixed tar/dirt trip of about 150km where I mostly travelled between 60 - 80km/h
When I calculate actual consumption (taking into account the 5% over reading of the odo due to 13 tooth front sprocket), the consumption = 35km/l

They were at the opposite bank of the dam and partly hidden behind trees (yellow arrows on 2nd photo indicate their position)
I tried to zoom them closer with my cellphone before taking the pics (a bit grainy due to the bright sunlight).

Filled the tank again yesterday after Sunday's 147km trip between the game farms.
I kept the odo speed between 60 and 80km/h so as not to scare the animals away.
Consumption according to fuelly.com = 38.1km/l (best tank yet since I purchased the bike) and I was not even trying to see how frugal this bike can be.

Centurion het 10mm gehad.  Hopelik kry Poloplaas binnekort
Ons is hoopvol vir 'n paar druppels hierdie naweek

Very hot (32 degrees C) today
The bush has not turned green after the recent rains
Saw two adult, and a young giraffe at a water hole

Filled the tank after the trip 35.7km/l according to the Fuelly App

Filled the tank again yesterday after Sunday's 147km trip between the game farms.
I kept the odo speed between 60 and 80km/h so as not to scare the animals away.
Consumption according to fuelly.com = 38.1km/l (best tank yet since I purchased the bike) and I was not even trying to see how frugal this bike can be.

My beste gister gekry, 30.34km/l.   :patch:  Ek glo nie ek sal ooit 33km/l haal nie, wat nog te se van 38.   :eek7:

Left home this morning to go for a ride but had no destination in mind.
I got onto a dirt road and it turned out to be quite a nice ride.
I came upon this deserted cattle farm.
It must have been quite a nice place once upon a time (even had a guard hut at the gate) but now nature is starting to claim it back.

I've had the bike now for four months and clocked up around 2500km of which the majority kms were gravel travel.
The bike was purchased without handguards and I have always been worried when riding dirt that I might damage/break a clutch or front brake lever in a fall.
This week I purchased a pair of handguards from Startline (with the assistance of a fellow WD) and the plastics matched the red plastics of my bike perfectly.
The package arrived earlier today and I immediately started with the fitment.
After a few adjustments of the guards in the bench vice, the fitment was done and I think it looks good.  :ricky:
A special thanks to @dieseldawie for his assistance.   :thumleft:

@Grunder , I know you were also looking for handguards. These will do the job on your Tornado and it is really not a difficult fitment.

So, this morning whilst cleaning the garage, I came across a piece of plastic that had a nice shape   >:D
First order of business was to heat up the plastic to give it a slight curved shape.
I quickly fabricated two brackets out of some scrap metal that I had lying around.
Next came the mounting of the DIY screen to the bike.
Went for a quick test ride and there is definitely a lot less wind on my upper body. I think it looks nice as well.
I will have to fabricate sturdier brackets as the current ones are too flimsy which makes the screen vibrate a bit.
Not something I will keep on the bike permanently but it is a quick install for those days when I have to ride long tar sections.

@the ruffian
I did about 150km on open farm roads (see pics posted on 29 Nov) and about 40km of tar
Speed was around 80km/h most of the time
I regularly go around 190 - 200km before the low fuel indicator starts to flash and then there is still around 1.3lt reserve left in the tank which is good for another 40km I guess
I have seen consumption of 31km/l if I am constantly on the throttle in loose sand and single track or high speed tar riding

Grabbed the tools yesterday afternoon and removed the rear wheel. I rotated the tyre several times and could not see anything that could have  caused the flat.

This was only my second ever attempt at the removing a tyre from the rim with tyre levers. Within 30 mins I had the tube out.

I first inspected the valve for a leak or possible damage but all seemed fined. Pumped the tube and noticed a hole when placed in a bucket of water. Used my fingers to inspect the inside of the tyre and feld something sharp stuck on the inside. It was quite a mission to pull the tiny piece of wire from the tyre carcass. A 9mm shell casing is attached for scale purposes. If I had not located it, the next inserted tube would have been damaged immediately.

Then started my first attempt ever at fitting a tube and tyre to a motorcycle rim. I had another tube available as a spare which I removed a few months ago after a puncture (I made mention of this earlier in this thread). There was a lot of sweating, swearing and bruising of fingers to get the valve stem through the hole in the rim (notice to self ..... get a valve puller ASAP!!!!). Eventually the tube was in place and the tyre back on the rim. I thought everything went well until I pumped the tyre only to discover that it did not want to hold air. I had pinched the tube when spooning the tyre back on the rim.

I did not have another tube so I decided to take the entire wheel to the bike shop to have a new tube fitted. I will patch the tubes at home on the weekend and use them as back-up tubes. Got home from bike shop and mounted the wheel again. Bike is ready for the next ride. It was good practice but I somehow need to be more careful when spooning the tyre onto the rim next time.

Het jy die binneband opgeblaas en weer afgeblaas voordat jy die band teruggesit het op die rim?

Dit help baie om die binneband teen die buitekant van die band te druk en uit die pad wanneer jy die band terugsit.

Ek blaas altyd n tube so kwart op en los hom so. Vandat ek dit begin doen het nog nie weer tube geknyp. Ook spuit ek altyd die rim en tyre bietjie Q20. Dis KY vir tyre omruilery!! ;) :thumleft: :lol8:

Sunset ride last night.
Stopped on top of a "koppie" with a nice view across a section of the city.
Looking in a southerly direction, Ysterberg is visible in the distance.
