Title: Still just a youngster.
Post by: jaybiker on June 22, 2021, 10:15:46 am
On the verge of my 77th birthday I was thinking I could possibly be the oldest geezer on the forum, but it seems that I still have a way to go.

Browsing the lists I see that The TRANSPORTER weighs in at 119, but I kinda suspect that might indeed be his weight rather than his age?

I note also that JANBOX from Kirkwood is 85. Are you still there sir, and do you still ride? If so may I tip my hat in humble respect drawing both hope and inspiration?

Fantatic Jay.... keep on riding!

Was watching a youtube clip about two guys (73+81) who still ride dirt bikes in the mountains with a crowd half their age... their skill and determination was a real inspiration and the benefit of riding as one ages is something to behold.... to me a real inspiration  :thumleft:

Great post Jaybiker!

Met a very upbeat man in Mosselbay a few years ago, at the Buffalo rally, cannot recall exact age, but he could not start his XT500 anymore, but still loved riding.

So he takes a younger buddy along to start the XT for him! :ricky: :thumleft:

There is a well known local character well into his 80's who rides an XL500, never kickstarts it, always runs and bumps! I saw him a few days ago on the pavement in town and was wondering whether I should stop to help, when he just paddled off and let the bike bump down the kerb, and went thumping away.  :ricky:

At 67, then ( and despite frequently being hailed as an old oomie or tata), I feel like a young stripling... I hope to be like you, Jaybiker, in ten years time- still riding backcountry and camping wild and chatting up chicks!

Jaybiker, an inspiration for us youngsters, now, at almost 61, I am moving to J Bay soon and I long to be part of a group of "youngsters" that will not only lift my spirit but also ensure the sustainability of my young age. Looking forward to meeting all in J Bay and surrounds.

Good going JB I've got a few years to catch you up. I find once I get my leg over and get going age seems to take a back seat, until the next day but nothing that a myprodol can't fix.  ;)

Following this ! Interesting for me is that many people on the forum do not have age on their profile just wondering why?

Met him yesterday at Dixon Batteries, hats off to him. He is a very nice guy, had quite a chat to him. That XL500S is in good nick.
I couldn't figure out why he was pushing his bike, then saw him bump start it.

By the way Jim he feels the same way about you riding like a youngster :thumleft: Suppose it is a matter of perspective and respect :ricky: :3some:

He is also an ace BMW airhead mecchie and guru. Has a R100RS. A few weeks ago some buds and I were on a ride, towards Van Stadens Pass when he and two others appeared out of nowhere and passed us at some speed. For a short way I opened up and passed his two companions when we arrived at the top of the pass going into the first left hander, he moved to the extreme righthand side going into the blind bend. That's when I said "Bye Martin, see ya later!"  :o
