Title: Looking for a tool/device
Post by: Bill the Bong on August 17, 2021, 10:00:04 am
Most carb bikes are getting long in the tooth. I have to repair about 4-5 carbs per month. Once the basics are done, I may required a couple dozen attempts to get it to a point where it will fire the first time. Also depends on the amount if fiddling the owner has done. Problem is kick start only bikes needs be kicked a moerova lot of times. In order to access the bottom of the carb - FCR bikes have a fuel screw below the carb - I kick the bikes on the work bench. Im sortoff old, and this messes up my knee and ankle.

So, I looking for a device that will fit over the kickstart knuckle, I press a button and electricity turns the starter without hitting the start lever into the foot peg.

Ive googled, but cant see to search the correct terms. Has anybody come across something like that? I think a car starter that turns anti-clockwise with a limiting switch may work, but Im not keen to develop this myself

Sal interessant wees of daar so iets is.

Lyk my ander manne krap ook kop oor dieselfde vraag.

A roller on the rear wheel might be easiest

Thanks Dux, ja also thought of that but most bikes I work on has knobblies. Thought it might be as issue

wheel type starter will be the best option, at the races recently i saw them fitted to the trolleys that deliver coke crates/gas bottles, so the guns can get there wives to wheel it around ! privateers struggle !
knobblies no problem, the hill climbing vids on youtube show them starting with these.

No problem with knobblies at all , a larger diameter roller will prevent that  :thumleft:

I see some very simple paddock starters, looks certainly simple enough to DIY

One actually uses an angle grinder :thumleft:

problem is probably the counter clockwise, but not all is counter clockwise...so for the others...

a battery powered drill?

You should ban all carburetors from your premises Bill, it will be better for your health

probably your mental health and marriage as well!

Angle grinder se spoed is baie hoog!
Gebruik 'n 12V of 24V aansitter motor ("staarter mouter" in Afrikaans)

Eina hel!  My een klein Hitachi hoekslyper was so. Net so terloops, my pa het daai Hitachi in 1972 gekoop. 49 jaar oud!!
