Title: Is the 1250 the best bike you have owned/ridden?
Post by: Lakey on September 11, 2021, 11:27:22 am
A mate asked me if I had ever ridden a BMW 1250 which I never had.
He tells me that he has owned about 15 bikes( different makes and models) in his life and he says that for him there hasn't been a bike that has come close to the 1250.
This is not brand bashing but his own personal opinion.
For those that have owned/ridden a 1250 would you agree?

It is powerful and fast but it did nothing for me , not the best by me , but then in all fairness I have never been a BMW fan

I found it super impressive. Rode it on some gnarly terrain for 15 minutes or so.

In the big gravel touring bike class, it is still the pack leader…… and yes I have ridden the new 1290 R

when the 1250 launched, I took it for a demo (tar only) - nice bike, seemed well made, has all the bells and whistles, but not for me

In my humble opinion, i would have to have 6 different bikes to suit every different ride i do. Every bike is great in its natural habitat, therefore i will never brand bash or downgrade any bike if it is not used for its intended purposes.
Therefore my answer to the original question is that the 1250 is an amazing bike for what it was intended to serve.
I dont believe there can be one perfect bike for every purpose and person.

You are absolutely correct, and for open road touring the GS1250 is one of the best, at least.  It just gets my goat [excuse the name play] when ignorant riders of these machines claim them to be capable of offroad work. They are not, and I mean technical terrain where bikes like the 600 class is comfortable.

Is this the 2nd time in a week that we agree on something?  It is becoming a tad tiresome, this agreement malarky!   :thumleft:

You know I like my GS.  It is an exceptional tourer and as far a big bikes go, also pretty good for commuting.  Even dirt road cruising it does well.  Very well, in fact, but serious off-roading?  Perhaps in the hands of some world champion rider, but most certainly not in mine.

Ownership goes far beyond just the ride. I have no doubt that this is a fantastic bike to ride but.....
What does a replacement headlight cost?
Why do these motors run conrod bearings ?
Why do the water pumps leak?

Now one can argue that the BMW warranty should care for it but once that is over?
The question was owned and ridden.

It is indeed the best Harley ever made. Faster and better off road the 1250 will beat any Harley hands down. Ridiculously over priced for a tourer.
