Title: WC Traffic Cop - Judge Dredd - Mr Sinclair
Post by: Bus on May 25, 2009, 02:23:52 pm
Friday afternoon, 22 May 2009, 5pm.

I leave CT central and join the N1 towards Bellville. I see a traffic cop on a bike in front of me and slow down instinctively. Im sure Im not the only one who does this…When I get close he waves me down and tells me to pull-over. (I never went past him) So I pull over behind him and wait on the bike as he gets off.

A friendly “Hi there”, from me.

“Turn off your bike and take off your helmet”, his rude reply… Which I do, and get off.

He (Off A) then asks for my license and starts inspecting the bike.

*** [OK, a bit of background here… I have a smaller than legal plate on my bike, because the exhaust pulses tend to break off anything of legal size that I try and put on. Therefore I have a legal size plate (with SABS stamp) in my backpack at all times. Exactly for cases like this, expecting anyone with a bit of common sense to comprehend my problem. Regardless, I know Im in the wrong, but Im not trying to be skelm or swapping numbers on the plate…]

So he tells me my plate is too small. So I pull out the legal one, and try to explain the problem with the exhaust. But it was like talking to a parrot. “It’s the Law” & “Not my problem” were the standard rude responses to most of my questions or attempts to make him understand.

OK, fine… (LOL!!! Excuse the pun)

Also, my learner’s document is a bit in tatters after it went through the washing machine a while ago… Im going for my proper license soon so haven’t bothered with getting it replaced. But all the necessary info and stamps and dates are still on there.

So 2 other officers show up, one on a bike and one in a car. (Off B & C). Off A shows them the license and asks if they would accept it. They laugh and say “Probably not…”  I explain the washing machine thing and they have a chuckle. Very friendly and courteous, unlike Off A.

We then walk over to Off A’s bike where he asks my 1st name to write out a fine.
I give it to him
“2nd Name?” I give my surname
“Not your surname, your 2nd name!!!” in a very rude and derogatory tone.
I am a Dutchy, so 1st name and 2nd name means “nickname and surname” to me.
Ok, sorry dude, I give my birth names, the 1st name being a variation of my nickname.
To which he sighs impatiently and scribbles over the 1st bit that he wrote down.
Then adress and cell no etc…So Off B calls me over to my bike. I turn and walk towards him.
Off A: “Don’t walk away from me!!!” OK, dude, you are starting to get on my nerves…  >:(

When he is done I go and discuss my bike with Off B & C. They asked about doing off-road riding etc. They also had some queries about my front sprocket cover. Here they also tell me not to make Off A angry as he is “a very difficult guy”  ::)

Off A returns to us with the ticket in his hand.
Hands it to me, R300 for the plate. Which is sort of ok, as I know I was in the wrong. But I did try to do the right thing, with the legal plate available at hand.

And he gives me another ticket for R200: riding without my headlight on… “WTF!!!??”  :eek7:

So I see my headlight is switched off from when I put in petrol earlier at the Waterfront. I proceed to show him that my light actually works, I just forgot to turn it back on after refueling. (I never start the bike with the headlight on)

Guess the response? “It’s the Law!!” and “Not my problem…” :BangHead:

So I lose my cool and explain to him in very certain terms (no swearing, btw) that he is splitting hairs and never said anything about the light until he handed me the ticket for it. That was, in fact, the reason why he pulled me off. (He only saw me in his mirrors)

Another couple of *Its-theLaw’s* and *Not-My-Problem’s* later and I explain to him that its his rotten attitude that gives ALL traffic cops a bad name with the general public.
So then, just as Im about to leave, he sticks his finger in my face and says “And you WILL fit that larger plate tonight!!!”

Can you believe it? I contemplated breaking his finger for a split second, but managed to control myself, LOL!!!

So I ask him his name to which he replies “It’s on the ticket!!” But he doesn’t have the neatest handwriting and his name was incomprehensible. So I asked him 3 more times to which I got the same “Its on the ticket” response…
Eventually I ask him if it is “Sinclair” and he says yes.

I left with a “You are a joke and a disgrace” and had to scrape together every ounce of self control in my body not to pull a wheelie and gooi him the bird.

OK, that’s the whole sop story.

Bottom line, this Sinclair guy has a very bad attitude and he really has a thing for bikes, it seems. Yes, he is doing his job, but is it necessary to split hairs to such an extent and be a #### about it? (Im talking about the headlight issue and his attitude only, not the no plate thing…)

He rides a Honda Pan European 1300
No Plate: CCT 30546
So to all the bikers in the W-Cape, avoid this nazi at all costs!!!

And, Mr Sinclair, if you happen to read this, consider the following…
You need a serious reality check, you are supposed to be providing a service to the public, its called the Traffic “Service”, remember?
Leave your personal vendettas and issues at home before you get on the clock.
Learn some people skills and try and expand your vocab a bit from “It’s the Law” and “That’s not my problem”. You are not Judge Dredd…
Even your colleagues are laughing at you behind your back. :laughing7:

You say that he made changes to the fine..... there may not be any changes on a written fine. Take it to the state prosecutor and they will cancel it. Then make a complaint against the "hoer se kind".

This guy's reputation proceeds him, he nailed 3 of my mates on hoiday in Cape Town over Christmas
He is often a point of discussion ater a day's riding, apparently he is a real pig, and finds great
pleasure in being plain rude and difficult.

Imagine a traffic cop who is famous 1400 kays from home.

Was one of these many moons ago in the old Transvaal.  An number of guyz got together, one riding up front and the rest of the bunch following a few 100 meters behind.  Charley up front pops a wheely as he passes the cop, who promptly jumps on his bike and gives chase, not realizing that he is also being follows by 20 other bikers.  They led him about 15k's out of town where Charley up front decided it was far enough and "allowed" himself to be pulled over.

Two minutes later there was one very unhappy, uncomfortable cop lying on the side of the road.  He spent 4 weeks in ICU and resigned on his first day back at work.

It was quite intended
My mate Bruce tells a fantastic story of Officer Sinclair tearing through the traffic, lane splitting at some
horrendous speed, waving his arms in the air to pull them off.

Apparently he kept them on the side of the highway for an hour, and would not allow them to leave
unless they walked, all because of illegal plates, he even referred to them as "F@#$ing Vaalies"

Perhaps he can't get it up anymore, dickhead.

A few years ago there was a traffic cop in Stilbaai that had the same attitude problem. One night a few big okes made him jump off the bridge into the Goukou river. Needless to say his attitude changed after his midnight swim. Maybe that arsehole needs the same treatment. :3some:

I have had more than a few run ins with Ian Sinclair. He actually makes me laugh and I feel sorry for him because he is such a P*^%SKOP!

I have day dreamed many times of creating a diesel reservoir on my bike that I can empty on the road as soon as he gives chase - would be kak funny to his new Honda leaving sparks down the road and him flat on his ass!

BUT

I accet that he is just doing his job - albeit in a questionable manner. I only wish all traffic cops were as vigilant and active as him - imagine how many unroadworthy vehicles would be off the roads

One of the very few times I have to agree with shark.

Being fined for the plate sux but its the law. the issue is the guys bad attitude, and I agree by the sound of it he has issues.

Causing someone harm or anything like that wont solve anything.... infact the total opposite.
In my book no one should ever have a reason to harm any one for shit like this, its childish.

My son washed my bike last night, so asked him to take it for a quick ride to blow the water out.  5mins later a get a call from him  "Pappa, die skietkop het my afgetrek!"  500m from home, she stopped him as he was about to make a u-turn.

Wait for it....

No license
No helmet
100mm X 100mm plate
No disc

She was very upset when I got there, and told me "Ek gaan julle twee nou hard slaan!" To which I replied "Jy verstaan nie, ons twee gaan jou nou hard slaan!".

To cut a long story short, gave her a piece of biltong, lotsa smiles exchanged, small fine, and I even took the bike home without a helmet!

See, bribary still works, even if I don't agree, biltong is still cheaper than a hefty fine!

So, can I ask the simple question of what is wrong with the smaller number plate? It is accepted in countries with way less accidents and less bad guys. But No, in SA a simple childish law about number plates will get you in trouble like so many others. And the lights, how many bikers get hit while having their lights on? I would go so far to say the majority of them. So what is the big thing with the lights? How many people are killed every year by small number plates? Again, this country got some of the most childish laws, just to make money.

But let’s take it that the law was broken, what gives a cop the right to be aggressive towards a fellow human being? Again, cops in the 1st world countries treat offenders different. But o no, here in the good old SA, being a 3rd world country, we think we are the model for the rest of the world. By bringing in cops with a bad attitude we will stop crime. Bull shit!

I think the point is that give the ticket but respect the other person and don’t try to be an asshole.

And Sharkie, yes his type is a d$$s. If it is law that the cop should give his name and show his badge on request, and he did not do that then he also broke the law. Again, yes his type is one of those d$$s names. My good friend, you don’t always have to be different.

No, this is not a POI

Yes it is the law. And I agree with you (One of the very few times, if ever, I have to agree with you). It's got nothing to do with the law, it is his attitude.

zonk:  we all agree,  if your're 'doing the bad' accept your fine,  and move along.

i have no preoblem with that - break the law and get your ticket...

BUT,  if some semi-literate cretin decides to get disrespectful (not me 1st),  and snotty % aggresive,  pal,   ...     if it's a quiet road,  PK   !!!

I once saw a video of a US cop stopping a motorist... he had impeccable manners and firmly yet politely asked the driver for her license... she went ballistic and he kept on being polite and when she turned violent he politely tazed her. Now if more cops were like that I would be a happy man.
However to date I have never been stopped by a surly cop since getting the KLR. Must be all the farkles an Tool Tube that get them interested in talking bike.  ::)

Well, Rasta Man, I think the cop got a problem by just pulling you off.  :thumleft: A PK would not be far of for any copper.   ;)

Couple of guys were pulled over and fined as riding in groups of five(me thinks) constitute a convoy and must be pre-arranged, so strictly speaking any of our breakfast runs are illegal for a twatwaffle like Mr. Sinclair who seems to apply the letter of the law.

Breakfast runs with more than 5 bikes in a group are illegal

I hereby quote the Cape Town Traffic Department's reply to a question I submitted

"As per the National Road Traffic Act 93/1996, a convoy of vehicles means “6 or more motor vehicles operated on a public road”.

"By all rights, a permit with certain conditions attached must be issued if a club wants to do a group ride."

"Applications for permits can be made to the Events & Film Permit Office, City Of Cape Town, 6th Floor, Waldorf Arcade, 80 St Georges Mall, Cape Town. Tel: 021 483 9072, Fax: 021 957 0046"

Mr Sinclair was or still is a member of the Nomads Motorcycle Club, and rode in groups of up to 50 bikes at a time. He is such a twatwaffle that he acually gave fellow clubmembers fines in town. A guy once got so the moer in with him that he took Sinclairs bike keys out of his copbike and threw it in one of the drains in Adderleystreet. The traffic dept. then took him of the bike, and he had to do patrols on horse in town. This guy is something else. Worse than Officer Jacoby in Aliwal- North.

Now what do you do on your way to work on the freeway with 5 cars ahead of you?  Driving anywhere near them constitutes something illegal.  Do you stop?  Also illegal on the freeway.  Whichever way you look at it, Sinclair will have a reason to pull you over.

So funny.

He busts the guys for problems and he is the twatwaffle.

Yes, he is doing his job, but is it necessary to split hairs to such an extent and be a #### about it? (Im talking about the headlight issue and his attitude only, not the no plate thing…)

Like I said, Im at peace with the plate story...
Im pissed at the headlight issue, which was the flick of a switch away. And he never once mentioned it until I got the ticket for it. Having to cough R200 for not flicking a switch is harsh in any language...
And this guy's general rotten attitude and way of treating people who pay his salary.

Rational, eh?
Do you think its rational to dish out a R200 fine for a light being off? (Not out of order). Without a warning or mention? He knew I would turn the light on if he mentioned it before writing out the fine.
Now that to me, is splitting hairs about bullshit. Yes it’s the law, but what if a car forgets to turn on his headlight when its starting to go dark? I have done it often. Where do you draw the line?

I will take it up with his boss, definitely… Its just that it takes time and it’s a schlepp.

As a sideline, does anyone know if these guys get incentives on the amount of tickets/fines that they issue?

They most definately do.  A car salesman once told me that he saw the finance application of a local Koeltekont, in which there was copy of his salary.  He was earning R12k a month on commission alone!

Think about it:
1. if he wasn't a twatwaffle, he would be in the wrong job

I was pulled off by a huge road block on the N1 last year on the way to Cape Town.

Had a lekker chat to the okes there.

By the time he got to me (not I.R. Sinclair), my helmet was off, my license was in my hand and I greeted him with a friendly 'Good Morning'.

Could see his face light up as he was without a doubt getting ready to be (again) reminded of how he is wasting my time. Instead he got a friendly chap. He saw the bike was full of dust and mud (came back from Baviaans the previous day) and asked about where I've been and how it was etc.

About 3 others joined in on the little conversation as well.

I've also once got pulled off for a speeding ticket - same response as before - helmet off, friendly and apologetic.
I knew I was in the wrong and I (again) had a conversation going about the bike and where it's been. Again very cool people.

They can be very cool and professional.

I agree with Bus - traffic cops with I.R. Sinclair's mentality shouldn't be on the road.

The law needs to be inforced, but you don't have to be a d**s while doing it.

Not having lights at all -  vs - light not switched on...

Not even on the same pitch

Taxi's are mobile death traps, you dont need to nitpick to find something illegal, nevermind life-threatening on a taxi.

Bus - my father was a cop for over 20 years and my mom used to train the cadets. In fact Harry Attwood and Nigel Payne were her cadets - so I still know some of the older blokes there.
If I was you, I'd make the effort to go and see them at Greenpoint and give them the details.... they are normally very decent and helpful, and the older generation do not care for these "evil-knievel" blokes giving them bad names. It's a bit of your time to do the report there, but the satisfaction when you leave knowing that they will be holding a disciplinary hearing is absolutely worth it!........... I know - I've "nailed" 2 in the past 8 months..... all for abusing their power as Civil Servants!

The whole sentiment here is that the cop had no manners, I will take the fine if I'm out of line, but the cop mustn't give me attitude unless I deserve it......(Which I normally do....I hate the farkers.....)
Myself and Peaches were pulled over in Nata, Botswana, for stopping on the bridge, which we did, to take pictures.
The cop treated us as if we'd just shot the president, shouting at us and barking orders! Foreign country and all we took the shit for a while, but after paying the admission of guilt (his buddy on the passenger side......)we gave him a bit of a rev.
When we got back to SA Peaches wrote a formal letter of complaint to the police commisioner of Botswana about this clown's attitude, we got a formal apology from the deputy comissioner of Botswana, also stating that this matter will be taken further with the named officer...... that's all I wanted, kark him out so that he treats tourists with a bit of respect!

They have a reputation for bad road holding above 180km/h !!  :imaposer:

There's an idea....there's a pretty quick 525KTM in Table View area.......couldn't be caught with a 950SE.....

I'm not so sure I go along with this blind obedience of the law. In 1938 in Germany they said "Jews to the gas chambers". It was the law I didn't argue. In 1964 in SA they said "Bleks to the lokasie and don't be caught wifout your dompas". It was the law so I didn't argue. In 1999 in SA they sed "Whites need not apply". It's the law so I didn't argue.

Was it the right thing to do?

You question unjust laws.

Riding with the light on is pretty good, makes bikers seen.  "I didnt see you" is the biggest bitch people have against cagers and they switch their lights off.  Doh.

The number plate issue is fine if the thing is readable and you are not doing it to avoid speeding fines.

That's a shit one Bus!

I think, after all is said and done, the issue is... was he making the road a safer place for all?
The answer is no.
A good cop would have pulled you over and said: hey dude, you know your light's not working man. Can i escort you home? Make sure you are safe? Cause no one in their right mind would ride with no light on PURPOSE.
What a twatwaffle.

The law says ride with your light on and have a proper plate.

Don't you think you get gatvol pulling people off all the time and they all say the same stupid things?

Eish, I'm afraid I'm with Shark on most of the stuff. No lights on a bike is a killer and who of us have not almost shat his pants when a bike (usually scooter) suddenly turns in front of you in the dusk but you nearly did not catch him because the light was off. Small numberplates too is mostly an ego issue. Sometimes the smaller the plate, the smaller the weenie. You know it's not you Bus!

Agree with Bus on the way Mr. Sinclair surprised him with the fine for the headlight. That was downright arrogant, but maybe one gets that way when you have to deal with a bunch of wise guys all day long.

As someone who pride myself on some anarchistic values, I am personally sorry to say that I even agree with the law limiting bikes to a convoy of 5. If anybody has ever been caught behind about 300 Harley riders on the coastal road to Simonstown he'll agree. Even if I ride with others and even if we are more than 5 (god  forbid) we usually leave space between the bikes for other traffic.

Now if we can only have some of officer Sincliar's attitude directed to taxis and drivers of black Nissan Navara's, the roads will become a lot safer.

Ag owens. This is again a case of whos hollier than though. We all know the rules and why they are there. No need to try and make yourself look good or intelligent where common sence prevails.

The fact or point that Bus is trying to make is that some officers are more reasonable than others, and how to deal with these guys.

Cop that explains mooi

Cop pulls over a taxi.
Cop says: "License please."
Taxi driver says: "What for?"
Cop: "You didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign."
Taxi driver: "I slowed down, and no one was coming."
Cop: "You still didn't come to a complete stop.  License please."
Taxi driver: "What's the difference?"
Cop: "The difference is you have to come to a complete stop, that's
the law. License please!"
Taxi driver: "Heish .... if you can show me the difference between
slow down and stop, I'll give you my license and you give me the
ticket, if not you let me go and no ticket."
Cop says: "Exit your vehicle, sir."
The taxi driver gets out of his taxi, whereupon the cop takes out
his truncheon and starts beating the kak out of the taxi driver and says:
"you want me to stop or just slow down?"

EISH, DIE COP HY EXPLAIN BAIE MOOI !

What you did was effectivly inciting harrassment of a public official. A particularly stupid thing to do on a public forum and had potentially difficult challenges for you if the mods hadn't stepped in. Besides the potential legal ramifications, there are cops and ex-cops on this forum as either members or guests and all of them would take a dim view of what you did.

Secondly, fight fair. You wouldn't do that to a member of this forum, so regardless of what you may think of him, apply the same rules to anybody else.

Lastly don't justify your actions with those of another. Be your own best example, let that be your moral compass.

Oke was in his right - forgetting to turn on a light is as much an offence as forgetting to turn on the indicators or seatbelt.  Understand your point about not defeating the ends of justice, but an offence non-the-least. Oke charged you R200 instead of R500 bucks for it, not? - so he may have realised this too.  Non SABS numberplate - may sound stupid, reason for it is simple though.  SABS numberplate is the standard numerplate - it meets the requirement for size, illumination, lettering, material etc etc,  So you either adhere or not.  Else every single number plate would have to be measure and tested to proof its 'standard' ito identification (sadly, for self-incriminating purposes iow camera tickets though, but thats a different argument).

As for his attitude, well that sucked - but so do a lot of other people's - either in the public sector or in the private sector.  Are we suppose to go and harass all of them too?  There are processes to follow to report these kinds of behaviour - you also have the right to follow up on your complaint to see if something was done about it.  I hope a formal complaint has been lodged?

As for giving out personal details of people on this forum - especially with harassment in mind, thats against the rules and frankly just not on.  Sidestand see this as a formal warning ... we can't tolerate this kind of behaviour

The facts are this:

Bus did not have a legal plate on his bike, the fact that he rides around with a legal one in his backpack confirms that he knows he is in the wrong.

His light was not switched on, another offense. However insignificant Bus might think his offenses are they are legitimate grounds to be fined.

By Bus's account the officer houding was kak.

Bus if you don't like the fines or treatment this officer gave you take it up with his superiors. It is attitudes like this that get all bikers stopped on Sunday morning rides. I have been stopped twice in the past three weekends, always without incident or nastiness, because I try my best to ensure that I remain within the boundaries of the law. Just last Sunday in Franchoek I counted nine out of almost thirty bikes without rear number plates, now why is that?

What pisses me off is the selective prosecution of those with an address and tax number, just because it's more likely that they'll actually pay the fines or go to court. Those who make the biggest shit are ignored. I.e taxis in GP who own the place and do as they please; nigerian gangs who own the city centres and "vacant" buildings; illegal immigrants robbing raping and murdering from their hide-outs in open fields next to rich residential areas.

It just confirms that they are out to make money and not to make the roads safer. He could've given a warning for the light IMO.

Maybe the fine isn't higher because of that, but just added to the list of wrongs to make an impression on the courts or whoever needs to decided on a more lenient fine.

Hey!

Mr Sinclair when he stopped me said, "I stop everyone with an illegal sized numer plate" He doesn't discriminate.

From a previous post and the way he treated that person and me and Bus, I gather that if all else is legal and your plate is not a miniscule joke then he will let you go. But if anything else is wrong or you give him lip then you are going to have to hoes.

I am defending him even through I think he has some issues with people who he sees as criminals.

You couldn't pay me enough money to be a traffic cop, its a shit job and no-one is going to love you. What do you tell your grandkids? But he does a service that on balance I think is neccessary.

Well

I followed this posting from day one .....

Its has turned into something that you best describe as a BITCHING session

Bus was fined and the guy was rude to him ... So in the end Bus got the short stick ... Sorry it happens to the best of us...

All Bus wanted to do is warn all the WD out in the Cape Area as to make sure youre on the lookout and be Legal (LAW Wise)

As for Sinclair ... Well guys, nothing is going to change his views, its the person he is.. Deal with it !

So all of you bantering along .. How you gona sort him ect ect .... Wel when he stops you ... You gona take the ticket say or do nothing ... because if you do something YOU are going to go to jail.....

I personally .... DON"T Care ... As long as I'm Legally on the road and enjoy the freedom given to us all. If your Bike is legal (Nr Plates , License ) then he would not have a reason to stop you.

If you have a problem with the way he treated you .... GO see his BOSS !!!!!!

Take care be safe and enjoy the ride wherever youre off to !!!

Easy there, tiger… I hope you are not referring to my attitude… I had no attitude til I got the headlight fine dropped on me like a ninja bomb.

And as for my plate… I said that my exhaust (Yoshi RS2) breaks the legal size plate off. I don’t want to spend R150 every 2-3 days of riding to acquire a new plate. Therefore I ride with the legal size one available for inspection/perusal. The digits are more than visible on the smaller plate, not much smaller than the legal one. I thought  that carrying the legit one would be a sign of good faith to anyone who is only slightly reasonable/approachable.

I was wrong.

And as for the whole breakfast run roadblocks… They know hundereds of bikes flock to Rooiels/Franschoek on Sundays, therefore they set up camp there and prey off the soft targets/hair-splitting.

It is also a well known fact that taxi’s are a joke when it comes to the law. Why don’t they set up camp right outside taxi ranks? On any given day?

Makes you think, no?

You seem like an intelligent guy, you either loose the loud pipe or get a metal number plate, quite simple actually. The famous place for taxi road blocks is in Durban Road next to the rose garden. I have personally witnessed them "targeting" taxis, as is the Station deck in CT. It is so ironic that as soon as one is caught breaking the law one starts to look at other peoples crimes and transgressions. Have u actually laid a complaint with his superiors, if yes them great? Let us know what the outcome was. If not, quit whining and pay the fine.
In so far as bikers being soft targets, I'm not so sure. On your next trip to Franschoek, RooiEls take a look at how many bikes do not have ANY number plates.
A while back the TC stopped the bikers commuting to CT along the N1. More that half of the bikers stopped were unlicensed!

Ja, seems we have a few aspiring traffic cops in our midst...  ::)

And if the naysayers read the whole thread, they will see that I never disputed the plate issue, and I stated it a few times already.

:BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

Vegeet nou asb die nommer plaat!!!

Ek moan oor sy attitude en die lig.

So for the last time, leave the plate matter out of this, its a side-issue!!!! Plate size is a dead horse and it has been sodomized to the n-th degree already. If you want to carry on with plates, please go and do it elsewhere?

And TBK, I am not whining. Maybe you should get to know me before spewing out tough talk like that... Or read the whole thread first...  :thumleft:

I am not aspiring to be a TC, and I have read the whole thread. I haven't met you in person but it feels as if I know you just by reading your thread and responses. :thumleft:

At one stage the thread actually went as far as suggesting retribution to the TC. I am NOT suggesting that you're inciting this, but it would appear that some people were ready to assist with whatever to get back at the TC.

Giving you a ticket for your light that was not switched on is legitimate, however insignificant it might appear. One thing you must admit, is that you'll remember to switch you lights on in future.
We all from time to time transgress the law, sometimes we're caught and if the TC oversteps the boundaries of acceptable behavior it is our right to take it up with his/her superiors.
I strongly recommend that you take this step, if you haven't done so yet.

I dont believe that anything I did was contributing to coppers staking out the popular bike routes... (On popular bike days only, ie Sundays).

The guys who were leaning towards physical action/reaction to Judge Dredd were rapped on the knuckles and everyone moved on.

Im definetely going to report Dredd to his superiors, I just havent had time yet. Busy moving house at the moment, but I will have my say...

The following to me is a ridiculous statement... Or am I missing something?
Bus if you don't like the fines or treatment this officer gave you take it up with his superiors. It is attitudes like this that get all bikers stopped on Sunday morning rides.

And the following is rather bold and based on assumption.
You seem like an intelligent guy, you either loose the loud pipe or get a metal number plate, quite simple actually.
I did actually try a metal plate and that tore to pieces too. My following mission is to weld a piece on to my muffler to try direct the pulses away from the plate. But I have other things in my life that are more pressing at the moment.

The following is just plain rude:
Have u actually laid a complaint with his superiors, if yes them great? Let us know what the outcome was. If not, quit whining and pay the fine.

Im a very sensitive type of guy...  ::)

Like I said, this sort of thing is much better discussed over a brooskie.

One for you Bus....

Quote
This is by far the best Traffic cop joke in years.

While I was driving down the N1 the other day, (going a little faster than I Should have been) I passed under a bridge only to see a traffic-cop on the other side with a radar gun laying in wait.

The cop pulled me over, walked up to the car, and with that classic patronizing smirk, asked: "Runway too short?"

To which I replied, "I'm late for work."

To which he asked, "What do you do?"

"I'm a rectum-stretcher," I responded.

The traffic cop was surprised and confused. "A what? A rectum-stretcher??"

And just what does a rectum-stretcher do?" "Well," I said, "I start by inserting one finger into a rectum, then I work my way up to two fingers, then three, then four, then with my whole hand in, work side to side until I can get both hands in, and then I slowly but surely stretch the hole, until it's about 6 feet."

Then the cop asked questioningly and cautiously, "And j ust what do you do with a six-foot poepol?"

To which I politely replied, "You give him a radar gun and park him behind A bridge..."

Speeding ticket: R250.00
Court costs: R1000.00
Look on traffic cop's face: P R I C E L E S S . . . .

Guys

This post is actually amusing. I find it irritating that traffic cops have issue with minor infringements but conveniently ignore major offences caused by taxis, due to them being much "harder" targets. Let me tell you a story about a biker mate of mine (who lives in Tableview and rides a GS650) and his intolerance of traffic cops. He is wrong all the way in this little tale so those of you who are offended by "bending" the rules can stop reading right now.

A couple of years ago he was driving up Blouberg Road one Friday night when he was caught in a camera trap. He was driving an Audi S4 at the time. For some unknown reason, this pissed him off badly and he drove home, removed his number plates and proceeded to blitz the trap 8 times at moerse speeds! The ninth time they caught him. Obviously groot kak and he had to appear in court. When he got to court the traffic cop who nailed him was there and made some chirp to my friend with a smirk on his face. My friend (a Leb boykie from the south) lost it in court and proceeded to tell the traffic cop off in front of the black magistrate. Something to the effect of "get a REAL job or suchlike". In colourful language. Apparently the magistrate could not hide the smile from his face! My friend was fined R 1200 and told me it was worth it!

I would hate to think what would happen if Ossifer Sinklair dares to stop him! Seriously! This dude has written off 3 taxis with his Landcruiser who dared to cut him off as they are wont to do. But that's another story.

Mr Sinclair and I have come a long way, I camn just about write a book !
About 5K worth of fines in the last two years from him, no other traffic cop has written me one over this period.

Granted I aint no angel but it has gotten a little out of hand.

Tomorrow I will tell my story, now I will try cover my 50 odd clicks home without running into him again.

Apparently there is a process to follow to formally get approval to fit a smaller plate - ignorance is not an excuse in the eyes of the law
OK lets hear it from anyone who knows pls, factually !!! not arguing just wanna know.

On the other hand I will openly admit that according to the law I am one of those assholes who doesnt do it right or follow the rules or abide by the laws. Before you reply or saddle up your horse let me finnish.

My actions are not purposefully malicious, the things I do are calculated, in the eyes of many I am somewhat loony, but I never do anything that may put others at risk. Do I ride too fast at times, yes, if I have a few kilometers of open freeway in front of me will I wheelie down it, yes, am I inconsiderate to other road users and their safety, never.

My bads, sometimes I ride too fast, sometimes I play, often I have no number plate, wrong YES ! Why do I do this ? I spend so much time on different bikes and there are so many cameras that I just cant afford the fines. Is the throttle always pinned, NO .

Doesnt take much to get a hefty fine these days, the K1200S  I ride at times will go 0 - 100 in 2.8 seconds in first gear but I dont always do it, or just keep accelerating. There is a definate line within myself which I adhere to, I respect the safety and lives of every other living being around me.

Here is the crunch, wrong is wrong, busted is busted, but what if that official - person - proffesional law enforcement officer has the attitude and form of address and lact of respect for you as a person through his words and actions that you feel violated and abused. A constant degrading manner and form of adress focused on you as a person that the only thing witholding you from tearing them apart is the fact that ultimately do respect the law and the uniform.

For 14 years I was a SWAT instructor who trained all kinds of people, cops, military, law enforcement, TRAFFIC OFFICIALS and more. Sinclair ducked out on the training when he had an opportunity, the training was hard not just physically but mentally as well but it enriched those that had the balls to do it endlessly.

I can prove and substantiate everything I have just said.

Its all about respect! No one has the right to degrade or intimidate you even if you are wrong, Sinclair has done this to me and others and its not right.

think i saw IR THE LAW yesterday  >:(

it just pissed me off

coming along on the foreshore (their working on the roads so there is almost no space to lane split but traffic is moving okayish)

mr IR THE LAW pulls into the traffic stops 3 lanes of traffic to allow a confederations cup team in their team bus to get into the traffic

he then shoots in front and stops almost all the traffic to get the bus to move through the traffic

that bus moved through peak hour traffic quicker than a ambulance and everyone just had to sit there as no one could move - if a truck could not get out of the lane quick enough he would block the other 2 lanes to make space for the truck to get out of the lane  >:(

FFS if they had to be some place at a certain time they should leave early enough to make it there on time  >:(

OK here goes, guys... Its long, but I need to let it out...

Ok... So to all who gave the guy the benefit of the doubt... i.e. he was having a bad day last time... sorry, this guy is a serial twatwaffle...

Its actually moera funny, and ironic. Today was the first day that I used the bike to commute to work since the last time that he drilled me. And I popped into my Bellville office first thing this morning, to only leave for CT (Greenpoint Stadium) at 9:30... So it wasnt even in peak traffic (where he normally lurks). So Im rustig going along at 120 and as I come past the Monte Vista, I see a cop bike on my left, joining the highway. So I ride past. Still thought to myself: “What if it is THE LAW…?”

He stayed behind me for about 2 km before he pulled in next to me and waved me off. I started pulling off, but then saw a car on my left and waited. So the cop bike then nearly rode into me… At this stage I still thought that I would lekker skinder about Sinclair with this cop, and also ask a couple of questions about him. I laughed out loud when I saw it was actually THE LAW himself.  Don’t know if he heard me. So I take my kit off and get off the bike.

So it starts:

“Licence please?”

I hand it over, this time a proper copy of my washing machine-damaged license. (Found it while moving house…)

I.R. - “So what did you say I was last time, Mr Meyer?”

Bus (looking innocent) - “When, Mr Sinclair…?”

I.R. – “The last time I pulled you over… Didn’t you say I was ridiculous?”

Bus (smirking) – “I said you were a joke…” :whip2:

I.R. - “And did you not also say that I gave all my fellow traffic cops a bad name?”

Bus (grinning by now) - “That is correct, Mr Sinclair… And I also said that you were nitpicking about the headlight issue”

Then he waffled on about the plate again and that I had ample time to replace it. I tried the logical approach that I need a specialist to weld something onto the stainless steel, and not just gonna do a hack-job. And that I have been moving the last week, time was a bit tight… blablabla…

I.R - “That’s not my problem!!”

:imaposer:

So as he walks around my bike he accidentally trips over the front wheel. I try to keep a straight face… :evil6:

So he waffles on about the plate and goes over to his bike. Starts writing in a book, this time an A4 size one…

I go closer and put my hands on the rear blue light of his bike to try and see what he is up to.

I.R. - “Don’t lean on my motorcycle!!!”

Bus – “Sorry dude, Im not scratching or damaging it…”

I.R. – “I don’t care, don’t lean on my motorcycle!!”

Bus – “Why must you have such a bad attitude? You just kicked my bike’s front wheel and I didn’t crap on you”

I.R. – “I didn’t kick it!!!”

Bus – “Yes you did!!! I saw it!!!”

I.R. – “I didn’t kick it intentionally”

Bus – “Aha, so you did then…?”

Hahahahahahaha!!! 2 grown men... Hilarious!!! We had a couple more exchanges, cant remember the exact details.

So I asked him what he was doing. He said it was a court summons or something for the no plate.

So I asked if it was really necessary, I mos explained to him my problem.

Brace yourself, here it comes… “It’s the LAW!!!”  :imaposer: “Im just doing my duty!!”

So I let him finish. While he was writing, I sat down on the Armco barrier.

Bus – “Can I ask you a question?”

No answer, he just stares at me.

Bus – “The last time you pulled me off, what was it for?”

IR – “Your headlight was off… The Law says that…”

Bus (interrupting) – “So is it not your ‘duty’, as a civil servant, to notify me that my light is off before you write me a fine for it?”

IR – “The Law says that…”

Bus (interrupting) – “So is it not more important to let me know that Im riding in a potentially dangerous situation? Is that not your duty? Or is it your duty just to issue fines??”

IR – “I uphold the law and…”

Bus – “No, you nitpick to get an extra fine under your belt!!!”

IR – “You like interrupting people?”

Bus – “Yes, when they are talking nonsense. Why couldn’t you tell me about the light as soon as you pulled me over? Did you not care about my safety? Is that not more important to a traffic officer than anything else… Road safety?”

No answer, he is stumped…

IR – “Its still your responsibility…. Blablabla…”

From there on I didn’t really listen, just started to kit up.

I also asked him why he wouldn’t provide his details the previous time. He replied something about it being on the ticket again. So I said to him Im going to report his bad attitude and unwillingness to cooperate with me. He laughed and welcomed me to it…

I also said that I mentioned his name in biking circles and that his bad reputation precedes him. And that bikers see him as a menace who picks on bikes. He just looked at me.

And then he rode off into the distance…

So I now have an additional R300 fine and a court appearance if I don’t pay it by the date stated…

What really gets me about this whole affair is that I would’ve expected him to stake out the peak traffic bikers. There were almost no other vehicles on the N1 at that time (9:30)… And fate decided that we should meet again.

I mean, it was perfect timing…  :eek7:

Are we cosmically connected in some way…?

Is he my real father? :laughing7:

Bus... sorry to hear. Go to the court and wait outside for the prosecutor in the traffic court to finish with the days cases. He'll at the very least cut your fines in half.

My bike is fully legal again, (can't say the way I ride is), but I can't wait to get him on my helmet cam.

I am also going to have my cells voice recorder on in my top pocket.

To the legal eagles here - don't speculate if you don't know for absolute certain - Is it legal to record a police officer being a twatwaffle?

If it is not then I suggest that all who meet up with him turn your cells voice recorder on and report to his boss.

Ok after reading this thread I have decided that I am definitely also a d**s.  I have not met Sinclair, so I am limited to what I can read on this thread.  It is easy being a nice cop.  If the taxi association starts to make threats (like often happens) you just wave them by, o he is such a nice cop!   When the bikers start to be threatening (like on this thread, talking of assaulting cops, throwing one of a bridge to get him to become a nice cop) just leave them alone or better still accept a bribe of biltong as is described on this thread.  You can even laugh with your colleagues for the p**pol who stops everybody and goes without biltong.

With policemen the same situation arises.  You get the nice cops who look the other way when the Americans or the Hard Livings do their stuff.  In their eyes the policemen who give them k*k about all kinds of things are the ones that are wrong, have bad attitudes and needs to be sorted out.  They will also convey all kinds of threats to these policemen.

In court you also get the d**s prosecutors like me who do unpopular things like apposing bail, and the serial housebreaker/robber will be very unhappy with this d**s keeping him in custody especially if the prosecutor did more than his colleagues, not just going through the motions.

Now this is where I find myself.  I am often personally threatened, believe me nobody likes this, especially when these threats are against your family.  Perhaps this is the reason I instinctively side with the so-called d**s Sinclair.  I ask myself how I would feel reading a thread like this if I was Sinclair.

It may be that Sinclair needs to work on his human relations. I guess he will also have his side of the story as to this. At least it appears that Sinclair is not corrupt or accepting bribes, he does his work diligently (too diligently according to the perpetrators!) and it seems he has balls doing it regardless of the threats he no doubt receives. That is the kind of attributes I respect.  There were lots of talk on this threat about all kinds of things that can be done to cops and so on.  Let me assure you there is no admission of guilt fine for things like moering a cop.  You will not only lose your firearm licenses, you also have a good chance of going to jail.  So I hope this is just meant as talk and lighthearted “gekskeerdery” from most of you.  Some youngsters reading this might get the wrong idea.

So Sinclair I guess you are reading this, as somebody must have told you of this thread.  Do your job. Try to be nice and frienly while doing so.  If somebody gives you k*k and moers you please PM me. They will meet another d**s.

Hagar, you make valid points, but pulling someone over and giving him a fine for his headlight switched off is purely malicious. If the headlight did not work, then IR had a case. This shows that IR is intent on fining you regardless.

I think the point made by Hagar is that its wrong to prosecute the few that are trying to do their job, and not look the other way.  This point has been raised earlier in this thread as well.  The forum will also not tolerate any kind of discussion regarding any kind of action against anybody.  This is not what we stand for and neither encourage.  I think everything that needs to be said was said on this thread.  If you have issues with this cop's behaviour, follow due process and take it up with his superiors.  Please just consider what Hagar said, we are quick to bitch and moan about crime in this country and to play the tit for tat game (the 'what about the taxis' childish game), but when an oke does his job, we cry about his 'attitude' and the fact that he is not willing 'to look the other way'.  Its time we get some respect for the law in this country again, and if it takes a Sinclair to facilitate this change, then i say good for you sir....

This thread is locked, any further Sinclair bashing will not be tolerated.  If you have issues with him, don't be a pissy and hide behind your virtual persona in numbers, be a man and take the law on the chin or take it up with his superiors in person.
