Just arrived back from the bash and this may be possibly the first post.
This is just a prelimary brief report back in one short sentence
What a moerse success!
Plenty more news, gossip items, lots of photos, will eat away at all available bandwidth very shortly . Just wait for the exhausted, drained, baie moeg, but absolutely content riders get home and start posting!
Things like the big spitbraai dissection team?s efforts to get the meat of the carcass, the meaningless efforts of the tequila drinking buddies not to disturb the other sleeping okes at 1 am, woman mechanics showing the men how to change and fix a sump that was holed on the ?road?, the desperation of lucky ticket holder no 17 to win something, all the superb rides, exciting deep water river crossings of 300+ meters done by only the bravest and boldest, etc. will hit the internet shortly.
Compliments to the organizers (especially Bojangles!!), the friendly and helpful farmer, the weather office, but more than ever to all the participants that made this an unsurpassed event.
Bravo! :toothy7:

The bikes in the kloof look so clean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How did you all manage that?
-
The pics don't really show the dirt Lito, trust me, they were VROT! The wheels got washed often, every river crossing they came out clean.
And then after making our bikes lekker dirty, we have to ride through a rainstorm that washed half the dirt off! Bummer. :D :D

Will take a pic of mine soon, just too show you how dirty it was, even
after dumping it in the river....( no pics of that offcourse :D )
A special thanks to LS for the most awesome route to Baviaans. To Rieka (spelling?) for the support with the bakkie and all her hard work of cleaning and fixing, and Suzanne (spelling?) for helping out with everything, cleaning, coffee making etc. it wasn't expected of you but thanks, it was certainly appreciated....Hein and Gravelmad for keeping us in stitches, and the guys in general for all the help and encouragement en route......

It was great to meet all you guys at Baviaans, can't wait for LS's report and story. Sorry to make you feel kak Fun, but this event, although we did not have the infrastructure of the GS Challenge, it was much nore enjoyable than the GSC, the venue, the people, the atmosphere, the riding, it was all good. We rode 1075 kays to get there, and if I have to ride to Cape Town for the year end bash next year, I'll do it.
We left Baviaans at 7-30 am, did around 200 kays with a serious crosswind, had lunch in Colesburg, sucked down a few Red Bulls in Bloem, did the last 100 kays in a mother of a rainstorm, and arrived home at 6-45pm. What a jol!
Looking forward to meeting up with you Capies at the end of December.

Hennie and me then just missed you. We arrived in PTA 6:00. We averaged about 130km/h, also had some chow in Colesberg. But that storm!!!??!! :? It was not the Mother or Father of rainstorms; it was the breeding process I think. Lightning hitting next to you, wind trying to push you into cars and off the road, rain falling down in rivers. That song "It's the end of the world as we know it ..." ran through my mind as you could see nothing but only sing to yourself to calm the nerves. I never thought a storm like that could be possible.

hehe. Gideon the Clown. Ridden once with him. Funny chap old Gideon. I'm sure he tells himself jokes whilst riding!
He goes full out on that AT. On the trip we did, he chose to ride in the loose sand on the edge of the road rather than the more easier main road surface.
-
Great pics! I'm jealous (veryyyy)! Please keep them coming.

what we must ALL insist on, is a very special ride report from Groenie, from when he left home, till he got back...

Good one there Watty, we were looking for some lost washers in the grass. Groenie had ducked at this stage, he thought he had removed three sumps.  He had to have a quick 'sleep'.
-
OK folks, I suspect we can expect a Baviaans overload tomorrow when most of the other hooligans will be back at the office. Although if they are even slightly as tired as I am today (Groenie's fault) I will understand if they drag their heels a little.
-
Michnus,
did you also do the 4x4 route on Saturday?
Post a few pics of your ride.
We left camp at about 09h30 and got to the Assegaaibos Hotel at 14h00. After a few beers and nice burger we arrived back as base at about 20h00.
Awesome ride that 4x4 trail. :D :D
-
Why do you hide this report here and not under "Ride Reports"?
Seems like lots of fun was had by all :D
Sorry I missed, maybe next year
-
I just home from Baviaans an hour ago........what a weekend of riding, riding, with some drinking and a group of super people. Thanks to all for makeing this a weekend to always remember. :) :) :) :) :)
-
Great story developing here. Thanks to all of you for the reports, looks like you all had a great time! :) I would really have liked to be there, Baviaans is still on the "to-do" list. 8) Keep posting - maybe consider moving to Ride Reports section. How about some track logs - did you get to do any riding off the "main" road through Bav?? :?:

-
Man, I am jealous  , what are you guys doing next weekend?
-
All I can say is: ^&$%&*$!!!!!!!!!!!
This was probably the best weekend I've had in my entire life.
Me and Marli got home last night at 6pm, and while unpacking the AT, I got upset that I'm home. I wanted to re-pack the bike and just keep on riding.
Thanks BoJ for everything you did, you are a legend. :P
Thanks Briv for the spit, and the company through the kloof and back home. 8) :D
To Watermat: On Saturday evening, when you got back to camp, I've never seen a grown man smile so much. You must have had a heck of a time! :D
And to everyone there: you are a lekker bunch of people, lets do it again!
We left the Kloof on Sunday, rode to Uniondale, from there to Avontuur, and over the most awesome, beautiful, jawdropping mountain passes to Kynsna. All gravel, and took us about 3hours for 80 km.
Slept in Wildernis, and yesterday rode to Stilbaai, Jongensfontein, Vermaaklikheid, Greyton, and home.
Will post a few of my pics shortly.
And thanks to the guy from SW Motech for my lekker tailpack!!!!!
-
Nice new avatar :D
Thanks! I just could not help my self!! :D
-
As everybody has said, If you were not there, sorry om jou troubles te hoor!!!! :D Coolest bunch of people 8)
Anda and I had an extremely interesting journey back that involved Rene the Canadian chap who joined us through the Prince Alfreds pass to Knysna. We also encountered Kaboef and Marlie on this stretch.
We wanted to stay in Vleesbaai, Sunday, but low and behold we ended up in..... wait for it BOGGOMSBAAI  from Baviaans kloof to Boggomsbaai :D :D
Could not ask for a better long weekend.
Thanks to all involved.
Gideon, jy is die Nar!!!
Our pics will follow soon.
Hey Kaboef did you see our stof streep on the Vermaaklikheid road and did you check Puntjie ?
1557 km, 107 liters, 14.5 k's/lit what the hell its a ledgend :P
-
Hey Kaboef did you see our stof streep on the Vermaaklikheid road and did you check Puntjie ?
:
No, I was too busy dodging potholes to check for stofstrepe.
We did not visit Puntjie. We went for lunch in Greyton instead (after dodging MORE potholes.) :?

Baviaanskloof deel 2
At the site we med Orange Clockwork Butch and Mark H waiting for us :D
What a couple of nice people they were so consurned
The Saturday was out of this world you all rock.
Clock work Mark H and myself went riding wat a team we would made.
The cute balancing trick from the AT was due to unplanned stoppage with 2 very eager and confident riders behind Clock work. Mark made the stop next to him just, because off all the water spray I also made the stop BUT THERE WASNT ROAD LEFT and LANDED on a cement ledge.
Things I enjoyed was the war story's
The NOB will always be in my mind. The uses of the Big Foot.
The AT is considered Moses for opening the rivers so Mark H could ride through them bone dry :D
Its official me and Gravelmad need to do comercials or Marketing. No one thought it will ever end and it didnt we even proved it the next day
Ill do Baviaanskloof anyday again, staying there for longer.
