Title: You cant fly if you dont have wings.
Post by: Kaboef on January 16, 2007, 03:13:51 pm
Looking at all the posts on the forum about complaints about bikes, I've noticed a few things.

While there are daily complaints and continual bitching about mechanical maladies about KTM's and Beemers, and in a lesser way, KLR's, etc, you have to really look long and hard to find anything on Africa Twins and Transalps. (except MrBig's recent output shaft woes)

Man, all I can say is:
(and Gideon, help me here-)

I LOVE THE LEGEND TWIN! :P

Thats it, I'll leave you to bitch among yourselves now about final drives and doohickeys.

When I read the title to this thread, the 1st thing that popped into my head was something needing snaitary pads to go flying. Always Ultra with Flexi Wings!

Thats an interesting topic BV- I like.
How many kilometers have have forum members put on their bikes in the last 12 months?
Would be interesting to see.  Just for the hell of it, dont think it is a brand-slamming exercise, please.

Myself: Since 1 May last year (9months) - 16000 km.

Sorry to be the nerd, but you also have to weight the number of technical complaints against the total number of bikes per that brand on the forum...

Looks like we ride about the same

20 May to present day - 17459 Km, no mechanical problems and 1 service problem. So I can't really complain at all.  :D  :D

Hey hey Bob, my Honda does rain, shine, mud, water, gravel - anything but tar - and as often as possible.

With trails the speeds are slow, so 6000 km's in 8 months sounds little, but the saddle time is up there!

Looking at the complaints about the Beemers and the lack of service at KTM, I count my (Honda) blessings.

They say 95% of all the 'Legends' made are still on the road, only 5% made it too their destination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D  :D  :D  :D

Or the Regulator / rectifier? Or the rotting rims and calipers which don't last more than a couple of European winters with the salt covered roads? Fortunately for you guys the rims and calipers aren't an issue. Still love my bike though. I've done 25k since September 2005. Unfortunately the vast majority of that is commuting miles.

Kaboef, everybody knows that I think higher of no other bike than AT and TA. But damn man, to open us up by putting facts right into their faces, is just plain suicidal and wreklace (hope the spelling is good).

Got the AT (as a second bike) in Aug 2003 and have done 46166 on it since then, but only 9216 during the 12 months (could not ride as much as I wanted to).  Have done 44340 and 14554 for the same periods respectively on the other bike.

On the AT all expenses except the fuel pump and normal service items were self-induced.  If only I had known about the Facet pump earlier...  :(
