my 6fotty reasently started growling a bit harder than usual, there is defanatly a very funny engine noise that gets worse the higher it revs, any ideas as to what it can be?
does any one know of a decent place to get it fixed in gauteng, thats not gonna charge a bilion rand per hour?

Year manufactured?
-
checked the oil level?
-
If it is pre 2002 also check for a vibration of left footpeg can be the bearing on the clutch shaft.
If it looks like that contact me I have done that on mine can help with advice or work etc

well she's a 2005 with 42000km's but never missed one service with ktm pro action, last service i took her there again and they asked me if there is anything in particular to look for, i told them to plz cheack out the engine's guts something sounds funny to me, they did and phoned me , told me everything is ok, but 2000km later bad noises all over the place, and got her back with a very nice 'oil sweat spot' over the top gasket..
Oil levels still good though, and she sounds okay from start up until about 8min then she grouwles agian..
i would love to open her up myself to check it out, but i have way to little experiance and even less tools, i have took the tank and seat off, to give her a scrub after dropping her in a mud river, but thats as far as my knowlage goes...
realy appretiate your input!!!

...... after dropping her in a mud river, but thats as far as my knowlage goes...

haha, no i realy dont think so, was stuck, tried to get off and fell down, and i alwys end up under my 6fotty, so that she doesnt scratch, the engine was running all the time, and done 9000km and a major KTM service after that, she only started with her k@k after coming back from last service.....

:thumleft: good news
there was an issue on some of the 640's where the lubrication to the crank is insufficient. starts with a rumble until the bearing collapses. i would check it out.
-
fanx i have already booked her in with KTM Pro Action again... but would have liked to fix or @ least trie and fix it myself, but way to scared, maybe i sould take the tank and seat off to save laybor time with ktm, to save some bucks.. hahahaha
-
wish i could advise here but im technically bike challenged sowwy :laughing4: i just ride >:D
but dieterf's comment on bearing sounds like a possibility ??? get the professionals 2 check out rather if noise is still persisting like u say..good luck :D
-
thx, i will, sadly a pro told me the bike was tip top and charged me R3900 for opening her up to tell me all is ship shape, only to find after 2000 km that something sounds very funny, well @ least i know they opened her up, couse she now has a nice oil leak from the top gasket.. For some reason i alsow think main bearing or the inlet cam follower roller bearing ...

Hi reset1
The advrider site has some dudes there that is seriously clued up on the 640. You get the wise asses like me :lamer: that do no really know anything but if you are patient you will get some good advise.
This is the tread index for the KTM640 adventures.
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86958
O, yes do not post on this Thread index. Rather start a new thread in the thumpers section. They get a bit uptight about that.
http://www.advrider.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=15
Also do a google search on that site before you post. like this:
site:advrider.com <what I what to know>
example:
site:advrider.com Ktm 640 engine noise
Then it will only search that site and it you will not get bombarded with unless bike spec sites.
-
thx, you may have noticed me tring to get advice there for a while now http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35110&page=330
but what i would like to know from this site is that are there any decent places to take the bike for repairs around gauteng..

I did not really know if you were aware of the site. I appoligize for stating the obvious.
I hope it might help other people looking for advise on the 640 Adv.
I really hope you manage to fix that, but it sounds like a bigend or camshaft bearing.
-
all good thx. . . kinda does, sutch a shame that ktm now have to open her up again just after almost 2000 km
-
On your 2005 model the crankbearingproblem was sorted out.
To check the frontvalves you have to take the radiator out.
Sometimes people do not do this(big job) Could the noise be valves?
-
If it turns out to be a problem with the inlet roller, make sure that the rocker arms are replaced. I had problem with inlet roller seizing. the roller was replaced but not the arms and a few hundred K's later the arms broke and roller went thru the top. BIG CASH to fix
-
geez thx, will remember to mention it to ktm, they did mention that a valve was a bit tight and they loosened it up, does that mean that they did cheack the valves/??
-
I have done plenty of those motors.
Here is one of the older clutch bearing issues.
