Title: "Adventure Class" - looking for info
Post by: the_wes on May 06, 2010, 02:51:47 pm
Hey guys - I know a while back we were talking about the new "Adventure" class at the National Off-Roads - singles and twins over 600. Has anyone competed, does anyone know what the course is like? When are the races and where? What license do you need? What do you need for your pits? etc

Some of us are keen to get involved...

If you want to do a enduro or offroad, you need to be member of a club affiliated with that type of racing. Enduroworld csmx, wpatv etc

cocky, which KTM site? KTM SA or KTM Cape Town

found a list of National Offroads and dates:

12 /13 Feb Ermelo 400 National Offroad
19 / 20 Mar Vryburg National Offroad
7 / 8 May Mafikeng National Offroad
18 / 19 Jun Lesotho National Offroad
23 / 24 Jul Hluhluwe National Offroad
20 / 21 Aug Brits National Offroad
1 / 2 Oct Ceres WPATV National Offroad

If I understood correctly, the adventure class only runs at Nationals...

Montague is an enduro. AFAIK the adv class only runs at NATIONAL OFFROADS

if that's the case, it's really slim pickings - 1 race a year

I am also very keen - please keep me in the loop. I think the KTM 690 would be an ideal bike to do this on.

That would suck. But I guess what really sucks is how few races there are in each region due to the fact that it's only at national offroads. If they included the regional offroads as well maybe the entries would rise?

Yes and no, depending on the club's view on the matter, take last weekends Dealer200 at De Wetsdorp, there is no way a DS bike would have negotiated some of the sections and the organizers have their work cut out already as it is just to complete the route in time. I do not see most organizers being willing to lay out a more tame route for DS bikes at the same time... it all boils down to economics. Now... if a few dozen DS riders would pitch in and help the organizers... that would make it viable imho. >:D

IF all goes well, 2-3 weeks from now i can get back on a bicycle (and motorbike) but another 2 weeks at least after that before i can go offroad on either...

The "adventure class" caters for bikes above 600cc's in National offroads, but that doesnt mean you can't compete in the social/silver/open class at normal regional offroads aswell, there are some KTM 690's currently racing in the regional offroad series. So all you guys can still make it
