Title: Husband teaching me to wheelie
Post by: Wild Wizards on October 17, 2010, 05:03:15 pm
My dream is to be able to wheelie like my husband (ok for now I'd settle just to get the front wheel up).  So every weekend (well almost) I do the wife thing and nag  - but nag to go riding....

We have this wonderful quarry on the farm, excellent place to learn to ride in.  So here goes...

Pic 1 - teaching me
Pic 2 - happiness

Ok so might not be very high, but at least it's off the ground.

Thank you, Bruce makes it look sooo damn easy.

Would love someone to take a photo's of us on the KTM 950, yip, he can wheelie that bike with me on as well.  Would make such a cool photo. I love the feeling when he lifts the front wheel.

Yip, when we were returning from the Dodge City 400 via Thomas River I had the pleasure of watching Bruce and Wild Wizard wheelie past me as we turned onto the tar.  Even cooler was watching Wild Wizard lifting a hand and screaming for joy as they went past.  The man can wheelie and as a team they are really good.

He is not called Wheelie West for nothing. He has been doing this since he was a teenager. All that has happened over the years is that his hair disappeared. He wheelied an XT 500 of his dad's so far down the Nahoon dam road when he was 13 that I could not see him any more. Then he came up the road and turned into the farm gate still on the back wheel.

I wish i could Wheelie too :( but im going to make that Malibu's problem :)   >:D

My husband dropped the clutch on the 950 by mistake this week end and did a wheelie but that was scary as it was NOT controlled!!!!

Hell, such kind compliments and memories from IRISH can only mean 1 of 2 things:

a) He wants to by the wife's XR 250, or...

b) He wants another ride on my 950!

Chances of either are not looking too good.  :imaposer:

Me first.  There are sooo many places to learn. Bruce is always showing me new places to ride, improving my riding skills.  Taking a simple quarry and turning it into a playground.  Sharp turns to avoid riding into the rocks (done that already, still got the bruises), soft sand - have done lots of planting there.  Steep hills to ride down - don't use back brakes.  So much to learn - it's wonderful.

Ok so here I go again, watched husband do it a couple of times.  Take off here, pull back, open the throttle, and land - yip I can do this.  First attempt - both wheels in the air, got the fright of my life. With heart pounding, I attempt this again - tooo much throttle, bump planted to seat, the back wheels kicks me in the air - loose my grip on the throttle almost go over the handle bars - almost, landed safely.  Ok lesson learnt - concentrate now.
The photos are of the many attempts, but was I happy to see the front wheel was up....

Hubby showing me how it's done, but using another rock....
Oh, and I might add, he forgot to check how much gas was in the bike - on the take off - the bike ran out of gas, note the result.... :imaposer: :imaposer: :imaposer:
