Title: Husqvarna - Advice please
Post by: aardvark on October 27, 2010, 09:10:16 am
Hi all.
I have been part of the forum for a couple of months now and already onto my second  KLR,  and now I have been bitten by the project bike “bug”. Not sure if I can post questions about “plastics” so apologies if I am out of line.

I have found a Husqvarna “plastic” but am very nervous to just buy it without first finding out about spares etc as it needs quite a bit of work. I know nothing about the make and was hoping someone could give me some advice.
I think it is about a 1986/8 CR or XC 500. (from looking on the internet)

Most important question would be,  Am I crazy to take this on as my first project bike?
Are new spares still available for these models and where?
What is a fair price for the bike that was last ridden a year ago, slipping clutch when ridden on tar, rubbers all perishing and bad condition plastic covers?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Parts are obtainable but you have to import everything

Chances of finding cheap parts lying a round is very unlikely

If you dont take it let me know
I am looking for a Maico 490  if anyone knows of a fairly clean one

Drum brakes at the back --disc in front and Ohlins back shock as well ---

Those two smoke could run like greased lightning --i raced a couple of them

That is a CR if i am not mistaken--motocross verion

The XC had the wide ratio 6 speed gearbox and was the Desert or Cross Country racer---

Piss to work on -----I myself am looking for something older than that --if you find something --let me know---

Youre buying a 500cc two stroke and asking if you are crazy.....is that the ultimate rhetorical question? :ricky: :ricky:

It went " earth sky earth sky earth sky ambulance" and then I woke up

Nope,

Been out of touch for a while but am back again.
Was looking at some old posts and saw you were selling a 250CR. Looked like you had a lot of new stuff. Was it easy to source the parts, were they expensive and would you mind sending me names of where you sourced from?
