Lets hear it fellow dog's : If you had a choice ;D between a 1200GS or a Super ten what would you choose. Riding will be 40% dirt not too technical and 60% tar. I need to start looking at upgrading from my faithfull old pig :ricky:
-
I'd say GS, but I'm biased. GS = no radiator to puncture...
but there is the oil cooler, but it's high up and out of the way
-
Between the normal GS and S10 I would take the S10, both tubeliss and good service from dealers. And mechanically sound.
The GS Adventure is in my opinion better than both for touring and offroading, big fuel tank and super standard extras.
My dad just had the same delema as he a a BIG Yamaha supporter, but have had good service from BMW so he took the ADV at the end due to the Fuel capacity and having extras from his normal GS that fit.
Get both ....
-
Positive's both ways. You would only get the S10 if you really dislike BMW's and the brand

Agreed. S10 for me.
-
GS. But I'm biased. 8)
-
S10
-
A biased GS ;)
Don't know Yamaha's service quality, but after experienes with other makes, I'll stick with BMW.
-
Super Tenere
-
Keep the pig. Legend motorcycle that :thumleft:
-
Super Ten - Got mine on Saturday - As happy as a pig in sh...!
-
The Pig will be kept forever but the dilemma is still there GS or ST.Is there anyone that has used both??
-
ktm 990 s , there is only one

problem with reading maybe, or do you need to justify your own decision?

Definitely self justification, for sure!
Go and ride both, I think the S10 is quite cool and must be worth considering. New DOHC gs's have issues that need sorting... some bad vibes have been experienced and fixed but only after some rather persistent discussions! Did have the option to use one of three dealers however, check in your area what would be your choices i.t.o. servicing agents.
Must just say I really enjoy the gs, since valve clearances got sorted, pull like a steam train and nice soundtrack to go with it
-
The nearest dealers are in PE and I got a wiff of the GS issues. Problem is that I am 3 hours from the nearest dealer and cannot just pop in to discuss issues.
-
Ok the Super Ten would be my choice if you going to keep the pig :thumleft:
-
Dunno!? ???
-
Don't envy you having to make this choice ??? I was lucky enough to be given an S10 to test on a weekend ride. Very nice bike all round, but I wouldn't swop my GS for one. Would like to have both in my garage though. Good luck with the choice :thumleft:
-
Maybe the S10 is smoother? Contact Adventurer(Kurt)- he has ridden/tested both, and would give you a decent and straightforward answer.

:laughing4: Jy weet hy love die S10......

Was in the market for GS and had it for two days on test.
Had the S10 for a test and after 5000 km I'm glad I didnt bought the GS.

Thanx Jakkals :thumleft:

+ 1
S10 lekker smooth, if a little heavy and characterless. ( just my perception and not saying it's a bad bike, so please just my opinion)
Opted for GS in the end, but that was me, you on the other hand have to test both to make up your own mind regardless what other might have said...
I felt that the GS was nicely balanced with it's low center of gravity, this to me was really nice to experience both off- road and through the twisties. I know it has it's limitations when doing single track technical riding, however that's not what I would use my bike for.
I Like the character of the boxer engine, some might call it agricultural; moer fast tractor I say.
Nice dilemma to have...
-
GS for sure...for what I use my scooter for.

+1
my thoughts exactly

You okes are compounding my dilemma I have been riding my Pig for years I therefore have no beef with BM. But boy do both make me moist >:D
-
Why a new adventure piggy when you've already got an old piggy  A change is always good; super piggy S10 gets my vote :thumleft:
-
I would take the S10, just for the fun of it. As long as I keep my adventure as well.... :mwink:
-
Padrone ................ take the S10 for a demo ride and make your own decision. Do not listen to the "heavy and big bike" stories about the S10. Operator is not a big guy (in statute) and he sat on mine and he was very much surprised.
But as I said .................... test drive the S10 to compare him against the BM and then you buy the bike on your decision .................... it's after all you who are going to pay for it and drive it ;)
-
Dankie Oom Foe-rie dit is presies wat ek gaan doen :thumleft: Ek is baie dankbaar vir almal se input want dit is 'n groot besluit. Hierdie goed kos nie sakgeld nie >:D
-
:mwink: Go for the Japanese perfection bloodline - S10, or wait a bit for the V4 1200 Honda.
-
Blond or brunette ???
-
GS, i think there after market service is better ...no one from yammiew gonna come fetch you an loan you a car in the middle of nowhere...
the 2 bikes are close ,i would look other areas and the support would be the clincher for me
-
GS
-
Glad I do not have to make the choice, but if I did not have a GS and could buy either new, I would buy the S-Ten.
Don't ask me why, there is no logic in it, it is plain and simple "what you like and want at that moment in time".
-

moist, mmmmm yes
-
GS no question in My mind, as the anniversary addition magazine that came out with the british bike mag says, if you want a bike similar to a GS get another GS
-
Before your final decision - think about re-sale value.
Both are IMHO great. The BM might enjoy a longer life though.

Riding the new GS at the Trophy was quite enjoyable. I think the new engine is a significant improvement, revs well and the power is very smooth. And the bike is comfortable to ride.
I believe that the GSA and the ST can be compared. (And not the std GS). The suspension is better on the ST and it handles better in sand. The down side is the lack of ground clearance. The GSA is not so easy to ride off-road. I would much rather ride a normal GS off road. And if you really want to, replace the suspension of a std GS with the Ohlins or similar for the GSA. The added travel / ground clearance makes the GS quite a capable off-road bike, or should I say as good as it gets....
Actually, there is little to choose between the S10 and the BMW. Any one will make you smile and there are enough facts both ways to justify your decision around camp fires. :thumleft:
