Title: Wellington Off Road, Saterdag, 12 Maart
Post by: GJ on March 09, 2011, 10:36:51 pm

I'll be there for my first official offroad event. Ek stress in my chops oor die ride  :D

Thanks Tau, that's my plan  :thumleft:.  I'm starting on the last row so I'll be eating dust all day  ::)
At least the route will be clear to me though  ;D
Dux has setup my KDX for me very well and although I'm nervous as hell, I'm really looking forward to this event. I've got Dux in my pit tent as well so at least I know my bike will be able to finish the race  :D.

tau, jy gaan nie ry nie?

Snafu  ek het laas Sondag die eerste keer my plastiek bike gery en dit was goed ek dink my fiksheid is goed genoeg vir top 10, HOWEVER na my val laasjaar race ek nie weer as ek nie 100% is nie.Ek glo steeds my val is direk eweredig gekoppel aan fatique......

Ek sal hopenlik kom support laat middag ek moet vrydag nag werk.....

Thanks for all the advice. Believe me when I say I'll take it easy, I have no intention of being a super hero (yet)  :D. I'm still very unfit and I have a knee that's giving me grief so my aim is to simply stay on the bike for the full 2 hours and finish the ride.
I've done the Cape Epic and the Transalp before so I know a little bit about vasbyt and prepping before an event, it's just the skills and fitness that are letting me down at the moment  :D But it'll come with time I'm sure  :thumleft:

You are all much braver than me. I am just going to spectate and take some pictures. Also to help out Dux in the pits.

If you give me your Race Number I can look out for you. No, I will not charge for the pics. Ask the people from the CABC.

I just do it as and obsess... erhm, I mean hobby.

I am just going to be around the pits area and so on. I am not going out on the course. That is what the official photographers are there for.

If you run out on the course you will probably get a few raised eyebrows.

As far as I know Motorsport SA take all the rights of the photos of you are there officially on the track. probably why the always have such kak pics.

If people see good pics of motorsport events they might go to the events more, no.  ???

Weird lot this Motorsport SA.

Daars hy, seepkissie weer gebe^re.

Daniel Darrah usually does the photo's at the events , check out on www.gophoto.co.za , to the best of my knowledge at the offroad and enduro events there is not an issue going out on the track to take photo's , but you will have to walk , although I think it wise to discuss this with the organisers / officials first .
The issue with copyright and refusal onto certain sections of the track would appear to be a circuit thing .

:pot:

Thanks 2STD, I appreciate that. Strangely enough my biggest concern is getting everything sorted out just to be able to go racing. MSA sure has a lot of rules and regs  :( All I want to do is climb on the bike and ride but I guess it's all in the name of safety so I shouldn't complain.
Title: Re: Wellington Off Road, Saterdag, 12 Maart
Post by: tau on March 11, 2011, 08:54:44 am
Buff

How does the start order work? Do the fastest riders leave first or the slower riders first?

The start order is usually from the previous seasons results for the first event , from then on it will be according to the current seasons points standing .

Jis ouens, I had a jol out there on Saturday, I'm totally hooked on this sport. The first thing that became blatantly clear is that my skills basket needs to be well stocked if I plan on going any faster. The top riders run at a pace that is impossible to believe until you actually see them coming past you. My mind fails to comprehend how they actually manage to stay on their bikes  :D

A big thanks to Domste and Dux for their help in pits on the day and the WD's who came through to support us. There's a great bunch of okes on this forum and I'm proud to be associated with this group.

I managed 2 laps in the 2 hours and got pulled off at 1:58mins which was a bit disappointing as I was keen to do another lap but maybe it was for the better because yesterday I woke up feeling like a bus had hit me  :o Gym has moved to priority 2, second to improving skills.

Well Done Mr BUFF!!!

This was my first ever official off-road race and the 5th time ever on my Duxxie 200...
I was number 2, riiiiiiiiight at the very back :) Very few will remember me, because I mostly had my head buried in some loose powdery sand, occasionally stuck sideways in the bushes halfway up a young bluegum tree or gracefully sliding down one of the stoney cornfield off-cambers still pinning my accelerator in the hope of righting my wrong...
Yes I ate dust, yes I fell myself purple & blue, yes I was slow (although I thought I was freakin' flying), yes it was one of the most challenging things I've done in the past while...
BUT HEY!!! WOW!!!
IT WAS AN EXPERIENCE WORTH EVERY MINUTE!! ;D
All my wipe-outs were due to my lack of skill on the bike... they were all my own doing :)
And even though I may have bent my bars and proven that THOR elbow guards work very very well while sliding down a rocky hillside... I managed to finish my epic battle with myself and bike :)
And all you guys who come flying past me.. You Okes don't realise how much energy it takes out of you,
when you plummet to earth in a dust cloud... and get up!! and kick that
little flooded 200 back to life!! :) YISLAAAAIK it is tiring!!!

FOR ME... A FINISH AND A SMILE ON MY FACE IS ALL I WANTED :) and that I got :) and I'm still smiling :)
Thanks to the organisers for making it happen... AWESOME INDEED!! :) :ricky:

GJ... 3rd place... are you serious ??? Bliksem, we are in esteemed company on this forum, I'm humbled by the speed and skill with which you guys can ride an enduro bike  :thumleft:

And some stage on my 2nd lap,  someone (I think Lionel) passed me for his 3rd and it was as we were going over one of those irrigation humps in the "koring lande". I blipped the throttle to jump it and I heard this roar next to me and as I turn around I looked straight into the bottom of a 450's motor as it came flying over my head   :o. I nearly moered off the bike I got such a fright. Btw, that 450 needs oil, it was running below the bubble  ;)

Sorrie as dit ekke was, sal NOOIT weer nie!!! :mwink:

:laughing4: No need for apologies, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do to win a race  :D

Snafu - wa sien jy al die results, ek hoor by K-P ek was 6de in my class?? Was daar dan 5 ander ouens wat meer babalas as ek was... ek weet nie eens watter klas ek was nie gery het nie, het mos eers die oggend geregister vir die jaar

Ek sien jy en I&Horse het so bietjie gesukkel met die fiksheid, die rondtes raak dan al stadiger!! :)

Quick Technical question for the Wellington speed freaks:

I was able to handle most of the terrain out there on Saturday but 2 things really rattled my cage.

The biggest was those damn ruts that get formed in a perfectly hardpacked gravel road by the 450's ripping up the road. When I hit those things in top gear my KDX starts to do some really weird sh!te under me and it feels like I'm going to get a tankslapper any minute. The movement rattles me and I found myself backing off on sections where I should have had it pinned. And if you go too slowly on them, it feels like your front wheel stays in the rut and your bike wants to go in one direction while your body wants to go in another  :D.
What's the best way to ride those things?

The other was those deep ruts that get formed in the soft sand/dust down at the riverbed in those tight little turns. As soon as my front wheel goes into that rut then I have zero control of the bike. On both my laps I moered of on that one sharp little left turn in the riverbed that went up that very lose sandy/dusty embankment.

Help plz  :3some:

Buff, I don't know if I qualify to answer, but I'll try.
On the straight with ruts: hang on the back of your bike and open the throttle and keep the front wheel light.
And for the the ruts in the turns: go fast and ride them like a burm (use the rut to turn sharp)

Buff, just one thing to remember...
a 14 year old only wears a thin sheath of latex for protection, while you and I need a neck brace, helmet, body armour, knee guards, elbow guards, kidney belt, gloves, fresh underwear, gnarly boots and a set of goggles :) LOL
